He’s on This Morning right now. He makes my skin crawl. Him and Ben Shepherd together is like the duo from Hell.

YANBU - he’s such a creepy man
YABU - he’s a fine upstanding member of society, you’re the creepy one here

I’ve met him four times through work. I was expecting the DW you see on tv but I’m convinced it’s just a huge act as he was totally different when not surrounded by people and/or cameras. Almost quiet, polite, courteous and came across really well I was shocked at how I’d pre judged him. It’s a shame he must feel a need to be a certain way in public as he was lovely

Was it he who pulled the trousers down of the teenage(?) boy on stage, or am I thinking of another nasty creep?

Brightsunpen · 20/05/2025 12:34

It’s not just harmless stereotypes though @minnienono

‘In The World’s Worst Parents the wealthy white middle-class writer uses the mother’s working-class status as a joke. She is labelled as annoying because she is a cleaner and the family live in a tower block.”

“In Millionaire Boy, the twelve-year-old protagonist has a 24-hour female masseuse. This image, of having a woman’s service whenever a man wishes, suggests women in such roles are disposable objects and are like any other item he desires, such as games or television.”

‘Characters with glasses are continuously referred to as “four-eyes”, and some are called “fat” – both terms are used as insults’

Yes it was him

He honestly gives me serial killer vibes. He makes me feel ill if he's on TV, I have to turn it off.

Skodasuperb · 20/05/2025 12:25

I'm not convinced he's even read all of his own books, let alone written them. Lauding him as the new Roald Dahl is absurd. (From a storytelling, not racism pov obvs)

What do you mean about the racism here? (Not a challenge; genuine question)

Americano75 · 20/05/2025 12:43

Sean Lock had the measure of him. 😆

dottydodah · 20/05/2025 12:44

Lifenmars100 Yes me too! RG is really annoying .JC seems to enjoy jokes at others expense too.It really irks me when RR,is on. Brain like a planet ,skirt shorter each week on 8 out of 10 cats.JC has a really false laugh as well

Roald Dahl was an anti semite. I'm not sure he was in any way a decent human being at all to be honest.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 20/05/2025 12:46

Yanbu! Him and Ben together is a 'creep off'

Waiting on their downfalls 🙌

OnlyLittleOldMe · 20/05/2025 12:46

I've always found him creepy. Can't stand the man thought it was a me thing but obviously not

Thank you, yes I was aware of that and thought that’s what @Skodasuperb might have been referencing but wanted to check. Unfortunately it’s none too ‘obvs’ at this particular time who might be an antisemite so DW may yet join that camp.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 20/05/2025 12:49

This is a rather horrible thread. You don't have to like his books comedy or interviews but suggesting there is something deeply sinister about a man you don't know because of your gut feeling and then stating it on a public forum is really poor form.

It was, yes. I wanted to seperate those two parts because RD as a storyteller was peerless. DW is... peerful?

I really don't understand how these things get a pass in DW books, just because he's well-known and a big seller - it's appalling. (Whoever actually wrote them.) I work in a publishing-related field and you can't move for extreme wokery, handwringing about LQBTQ+ and ethnic minority representation, special awards, grants and initiatives for "under-represented" groups, awareness-raising training courses etc etc - but yay let's heavily promote these books full of misogyny, classism, prejudice and sneering based on looks, weight, age, disability etc. Just goes to show it's all meaningless box-ticking and if the money talks no one cares at all.

Miyagi99 · 20/05/2025 12:57

I find him attractive and creepy at the same time, not sure why! It’s very uncomfortable.

Floogal · 20/05/2025 12:59

I liked Little Britain, but must admit, the Bitty and gerontophile sketches are absolutely disgusting. Especially with that old lady's feet.
Also, I don't understand his acting like a gay man persona.

Now I'm all for having an opinion and I'm not keen on the man but that is a very serious allegation to throw at someone with no evidence.

It's one thing to be creepy but that does not mean he is a criminal.

I am not an apologist before anyone starts but be careful what you throw around. I'm sure you wouldn't be too happy if someone said that about you.

And saville was different. There was a lot of evidence on him and even the police called him a predator so I believe he is one.

Entertainedforever · 20/05/2025 13:13

I worked in publishing for years and now work in an adjacent industry. When my friends worked for his publisher, they were told - as young women - never to be alone with him and to always have others around. Take that as you will, he is a massive creep.

Whatafustercluck · 20/05/2025 13:14

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 20/05/2025 11:44

He seems to actively work on it as his whole persona - it isn't just something incidental that he can't help.

He must thrive on knowing that millions of people at home are all going "Eeeeuuurrgghh, slimy!" every time he appears on the TV.

My view is that he's hiding in plain sight. Plenty of clebs do it...

Foodfiend2025 · 20/05/2025 13:17

I used to fancy him back in Little Britain days so I've got my own problems 🫣😂

Certain men really do have a terrifying dark energy - I always thought that was hyperbole until I met Russell Brand. And then I back referenced that feeling and realised that I'd come across a slightly milder form of it several times before.

Women are much more attuned to it for obvious reasons - I wonder how the average man experiences it?

Aaanyway - with Brand you definitely do get a version of it coming across on TV, and I expect that's also true of Walliams. IRL the hairs on the back of your neck would be rigid.

I agree. I also think that referring to someone in this manner suggests that paedophiles have ‘a look’ which is utterly ridiculous. Most of them don’t look any different from the rest of the population, which is part of the reason why they are able to commit these horrific crimes.
