To think that plenty of schools still have brown uniform?

My DC’s school has brown skirts/ pinafores for the girls uniform. They can wear black trousers if they want but most of the girls prefer skirts.

Asda seems to be the only big shop that’s selling them. M&S, Next, John Lewis, etc have all stopped making brown uniform.

We can’t be the only school with this issue?

No schools near to me have brown uniform. All seems to have black, charcoal grey or navy with red, blue or green tops. As long as ASDA does it you shouldn't have a problem.

I can only think of one in my part of Glasgow - and that's Jordanhill school which is a unique place in the terms of how its run and funded. They have brown blazers and the children can wear either dark grey or brown skirts/trousers.

All the other state schools are black/grey/navy skirts or trousers and jumpers in green/red/navy/royal blue.

St Louise’s in Belfast has a brown uniform. Used to call them the brown bombers back in the 80’s/90’s🤣 (toilet, not terrorist, related for clarity - not sure which is worse!) It’s still brown, but they changed the shirts, tie accents and badges from a horrible yellow that nobody suited to mint green, which actually looks very smart. Not that my opinion matters tbf.

There is a mainstream secondary school near me that has a brown uniform, which my kids don’t go to. It’s definitely the only school that I’ve ever seen with a brown uniform.

My dd wore brown uniform when she started in 2001. In 2002 they changed the uniform as brown was hard to get

I travel all over my county for work and can’t think of a single school with brown uniform. They are all mostly navy or black, with one or two grey.

Primary schools are often white, blue or red polos/sweatshirt style tops with black/navy trousers or skirts/shorts, and some have blue/red pinafore dresses for summer.

The only school I knew with a brown uniform (private, church school), switched to blue a few years ago. I think "brown uniform" schools are very much in the minority.

I wore a brown uniform in secondary in Deptford, London. I liked it. That was 30 years ago. The school still has brown uniform. There are a couple of schools in london with it

I know exactly where you mean! Oddly enough, both my parents-in-law attended that school in the 1920s and 1930s. I never thought to ask them if it had a brown uniform back then, and it's too late now.

Notre Dame school near Elephant and Castle still has a brown uniform - Catholic girls' secondary.

St Thomas the Apostle in Nunhead - Catholic boys' school - has maroon blazers. Maroon is another colour I associate mostly with Catholic schools.

I went to a school once where the uniform stipulated that we all wear brown, lace-up shoes! (although skirts and trousers were grey)

Shoes were a constant battlefield at my secondary school (girls only, 1970s). There was a point when we were only allowed to choose one of four approved styles from Clark's. Not really workable, so that went west. The same bunch of genius governors decided to introduce a summer uniform which had to be made at home or by a dressmaker. We had no sewing machine and no sewing skills, so we were very fortunate indeed to have a good-natured neighbour who offered to make mine. We had to buy the patterns (blouse or button through dress) and sufficient fabric (you could choose from four colours, plain or hideously patterned). One of the stupidest uniform ideas I've ever heard. It didn't last long so that was an utter waste of time and money. They went over to a simple open-necked white shirt after that, replacing the winter combo of ordinary shirt plus school tie.

I've done supply teaching in both the UK and Wales, so taught in countless schools, and I've never come across a school with brown uniform.

I’d hope that a teacher would know that Wales is part of the UK!

Was meant to say across the UK- in England Wales....clearly not enough coffee in my system yet!

Ah, yes, I agree that all my teacher friends have a much higher level of caffeine requirements, not surprising given the hard job you do. We bought DS fabulous teacher at primary a generous gift voucher for the funky coffee van just up the road from the school and she said it was one of her favourite presents ever Grin

Asda stock brown. If sizes are not available give in a couple more weeks, they will be awaiting stock for the new year now. Online is more reliable for rarer items, I used to order all the uniform for pick up as easier than trying to find specific sizes in store.

Asda have had no stock of brown school skirts since this time last year. Believe me, I’ve been checking!

I bought the pinafores up the sizes we’ll need to year 6 last year, but skirts have been an issue.

I also prefer the M&S yellow school dresses, as they don’t fade like the others. I bought early this year thankfully. I hope the get their online stuff sorted out and don’t do bust as someone suggested recently as they don’t stock the yellow in store near us. We have one of the big flagship/concept stores, a couple of medium ones and a few small ones, so being able to get them from a physical shop isn’t due to lack of branches!

I live in Ireland, & and the school one of my girls goes to , it’s brown skirt/ pants , brown jumper with school crest & mustard shirt ..
Dunnes stores, I’m thinking is equivalent to your Asda in Uk & they don’t stock them at all ..
We have a uniform shop where I live that stocks all the local school uniforms ..
Do you not have one of those where you live ?
