The Girl Guide law.

AnonWho23 · 03/05/2025 12:27

What exactly is a Christian value or a non Christian value?

LobeliaBaggins · 03/05/2025 12:27

Heh. Interesting question.
What are non Christian values exactly? I think most religions have similar values
But here's one: I don't believe in heaven or hell.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 03/05/2025 12:28

I mean, GG law is pretty close to Christianity but still not iyswim.

IsitaHatOrACat · 03/05/2025 12:29

Atheism and the belief that this us our one life and it ends on death (though carries on through our impact, family, love etc)

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 03/05/2025 12:29

Be kind
Don't be a dick
Live and let live ✨️

EsmeSusanOgg · 03/05/2025 12:29

Treat others as you would like to be treated yourself.

Wherever possible, choose to be kind and empathetic.

mbosnz · 03/05/2025 12:29

Equal respect for other religions.

LobeliaBaggins · 03/05/2025 12:30

I have an equal disrespect for all religions. Does that count?

BobbyBiscuits · 03/05/2025 12:31

I don't believe that everyone should worship the same 'god'.
I don't follow any particular religion, but the values of most religions are similar and usually just positive ways to try and live your life.
But I don't believe you go to heaven or hell. I don't believe in the devil, exorcisms, demons etc.

MasterBeth · 03/05/2025 12:32

What do you mean?

"Thou shalt not commit murder" is claimed as a Christian value, but is clearly a universal human value.

captivate · 03/05/2025 12:32

The question is curious because it frames existence entirely around Christianity. As though one's status as Christian or Non-Christian overrides any other status a person may have in their life.

Christian values are just values. Non-Christian values are just values. So your question is really "What values do you live by?"

I live by the values of respect, curiosity, honesty and integrity.

What values do you live by OP?

Same. I despise religion. In fact, despise isn’t a strong enough word

cardibach · 03/05/2025 12:35

@captivate has expressed what I was trying to formulate. I live by values I consider worthwhile and moral (ie considering the needs of others, not just myself). Some - probably most or all - are the same as the values promoted by Christianity, but I don’t live by them because of that. I live by them because I consider them right. I don’t need a religion to point that out and tell me I should follow them.

Have you heard of the Bible?

Have you heard of the Bible?

Is being deliberately rude and arsey a Christian value?

cardibach · 03/05/2025 12:37

BlossomBlanket · 03/05/2025 12:36

Have you heard of the Bible?

Are you suggesting that a) the Bible is consistent about values throughout and b) the values it expresses are exclusive to Christianity?

This is where is gets interesting, why do you consider them right?

Because they do no harm to others. I think it’s wrong to deliberately hurt other human beings.

LobeliaBaggins · 03/05/2025 12:38

BlossomBlanket · 03/05/2025 12:36

Have you heard of the Bible?

Do you think the Bible says anything different from many other religions?

beetr00 · 03/05/2025 12:41

BlossomBlanket · 03/05/2025 12:26

Just that really!

I follow "decent human" values for those of us whom are secular.

BlossomBlanket · 03/05/2025 12:36

Have you heard of the Bible?

and there, exactly, is where you've lost it.

Bit of a snarky response for "a bible loving christian"

BlossomBlanket · 03/05/2025 12:44

LobeliaBaggins · 03/05/2025 12:38

Do you think the Bible says anything different from many other religions?

Yes it does - its stance on usury for instance, shared with Islam but not by Judaism
