To think that not speaking to your own son is not a good look for the King ?

Don’t get me wrong I think Harry has been a bit of an entitled burk but even so I was shocked that there has not been a reconciliation between Harry and Megan and the King and Queen at least to be civil to each other .
Refusing to even speak just seems like sulking to me !
That said I don’t think Harry telling the world and washing yet more dirty laundry in public is going to help matters .

Maybe some folk will think this comment belongs in the Royal Family thread rather than AIBU but it’s more about mumsnet standards ( sulking is not good ) and whether they should apply to those in high office .

Even JFK and Krushev had a hotline after the Cuban Crisis !

I wouldn't believe just what Harry is saying to be honest.

CaptainFuture · 02/05/2025 21:10

How does he FORCE the son to talk to him?
Or do you think poor Hazza should be grovelled to, and all demands met?

Wowzel · 02/05/2025 21:11

Surely this constant moaning to the press is exactly why he isn't talking to him? (If it's true)

HRTQueen · 02/05/2025 21:14

He allowed his sons to walk behind their mothers coffin at her funeral while the world watch all for the royal image

he packed them back off to boarding school when their were grieving

he had no intentions of ever being faithful and choose a bride that suited his needs and watched her mental health spiral and did nothing

what makes you think Charles is a nice guy he has never had a reputation of being nice

BunnyRuddington · 02/05/2025 21:14

It really does belong in the Royal Family section. I don’t give a flying fuck whether they talk to one another or not. And if you believe anything that Harry says, well you need to start having a think about what other things you’ve heard and believe.

Pancakeflipper · 02/05/2025 21:15

I think once trust breaks down it can be tricky to reconcile.

It's not like your average family - this is a member of the family who seems to continually "sell" family conversations to the media for their own means.

It must be heartbreaking and infuriating. But I guess the sensible option is to step away.

If KC was to be on MN and say what H has done over the last 5 years, we'd probably be telling him NC.

Darkambergingerlily · 02/05/2025 21:15

Why would anyone want to talk to someone who runs to the press and repeats every conversation with embellishments?

i suppose you could talk and just keep the topic on the weather?!

Kinneddar · 02/05/2025 21:16

You're assuming Harry's version of events is true. Let's face it he's not really a reliable source. I'd struggle to believe a word that came out his mouth

If Charles isn't speaking to him who'd blame him. The constant interviews and lies - who in the right mind would put up with that from a family member. I'd imagine Charles is very hurt with Harry's behaviour in recent years.

blubberyboo · 02/05/2025 21:17

The King has a duty to protect the country. Why would he trust 2 people who sell everything to Netflix?

Besides we don't even know how much they do or don't speak

ArminTamzerian · 02/05/2025 21:17

If you're the actual King, what does it matter what "look" there is? You're the King. It's not like you can be voted off.

MereNoelle · 02/05/2025 21:17

I assume he’s concerned that if he talks to Harry, Harry will put the conversations in his next book.

yeesh · 02/05/2025 21:18

Lol

Snorlaxo · 02/05/2025 21:19

If it’s true, then I think that he’s doing the right thing because the damage that Harry does by leaking gossip to the press isn’t good for either side. Harry can only leak and monetise what he knows and cutting Harry off from the info means that he’s less likely to be blindsided.

Basically he’s grey rocking which is the advice given to normal families.

nocoolnamesleft · 02/05/2025 21:19

But he knows anything he says to Harry will be instantly regurgitated to the world in either an interview or a book.

This 100%. What ‘ the firm’ did to those children to satisfy the ghoulish demands of ‘the people’ was barbaric. He was 13 years old and expected to display his grief like an entertainment show. Horrific

Voted OUT. Thankfully, the royal family is not yet a reality TV show...

Because they are a parent of said “someone”. I can’t imagine ever not speaking to my child even if they were wayward or dishonest (or worse). I’m probably very naive though!

Chumsky · 02/05/2025 21:24

Yeah but how the hell does he? The trust has completely gone & it’s not exactly a normal dysfunctional family that’s had a rift or falling out!! It’s an impossible situation.

Marmaladelover · 02/05/2025 21:26

I admit I am wondering if Harry is telling the truth I suspect what happens though is the King doesn’t phone him and won’t accept calls from Harry - maybe they go through a switchboard / personal secretary .
I am guessing since I get most ( all ) of my knowledge of royal protocol from watching The Crown Grin

I did smile at the pp comment that if the King was on Mumsnet we would advise him to go NC Except isn’t that usually reserved for the adult child rather than the parent ?

All families can be tricky. I do think that Harry genuinely believes that what he is saying is the truth. But it may not be the whole truth.

I do have some sympathy for Harry and I do think he was right to leave. I also think he should have armed police protection from the British police when on British soil.

But I can also appreciate that for KC, the trust has been broken. It is often said on this forum that sometimes it is better to break contact with family members for your own well being. Harry puts KC in impossible situations. Perhaps with his own, serious health concerns, KC just can’t deal with it all.

Absolutely Lesina

if we had had social media then I do believe there would have been people speaking out

it’s absolutely heartbreaking to see

another point Camilla happily entertains Jeremy Clarkson and Piers Morgan and we all know their utter vile comments towards Megan

FacingTheWall · 02/05/2025 21:28

I wouldn’t speak to him either if he was my son. You’d never know what he’d do with the conversations.

pimplebum · 02/05/2025 21:28

We have no idea how much they are in contact

lots of kings in history had terrible relationships with their sons

I would imagine they are both more concerned with how it feels than how it looks

GoodVibesHere · 02/05/2025 21:29

I can't imagine there would be much to say though. Harry has chosen a very different path.

Absolute prick of a man.
