To think that not speaking to your own son is not a good look for the King ?

Don’t get me wrong I think Harry has been a bit of an entitled burk but even so I was shocked that there has not been a reconciliation between Harry and Megan and the King and Queen at least to be civil to each other .
Refusing to even speak just seems like sulking to me !
That said I don’t think Harry telling the world and washing yet more dirty laundry in public is going to help matters .

Maybe some folk will think this comment belongs in the Royal Family thread rather than AIBU but it’s more about mumsnet standards ( sulking is not good ) and whether they should apply to those in high office .

Even JFK and Krushev had a hotline after the Cuban Crisis !

Why would anyone want to talk to someone who runs to the press and repeats every conversation with embellishments?

i suppose you could talk and just keep the topic on the weather?!

This

It’s a bit scary for the RF that Meghan knows everything.

They need to be careful, she will cash in once divorced…

Good. I hope she blows the lid on the lot of them.

Marmaladelover · 02/05/2025 21:56

@YesHonestly
fir a moment , when I read “ The Crown” I thought you meant the Netflix drama! [ grin]

I agree that trust is broken but it seems a complete downward spiral so I am not sure the present situation is sustainable .

At the end of the interview Harry says that there are 'some who want history to repeat itself' in reference to Diana. It's absolutely awful, it just comes across as though there is nothing he won't say. Is he employing that there are people in his family who want him or his wife dead?? He comes across as completely deluded, and I'm not surprised that his father and brother who are supporting eachother through their cancer journeys don't have any energy for a chat about the weather with him.

Carodebalo · 02/05/2025 21:49

I think you may be right. I just wonder, if you’re Prince Harry, why you would want the whole world to know you’re not of royal descent at all?

Because that would explain why

  1. hes messed up mentally
  2. the king doesn’t want to talk to him
  3. nobody is bothered about his security

it would validate everything he’s been saying

JudgeJ · 02/05/2025 21:58

DinaofCloud9 · 02/05/2025 21:10

I wouldn't believe just what Harry is saying to be honest.

If Harry said It's raining, I would go to the window to check.

HRTQueen · 02/05/2025 21:58

Not sure how Diana had a say in her sons going back to boarding school when she was dead

My son made decisions at 13 that were not good for him. As a parent I made the final decision

as for Harry having a chat with Prince Philip hardly known for his empathetic nature Charles informed the public of this

PotolKimchi · 02/05/2025 21:58

@CagneyNYPD1 He will get the highest security if he comes to the UK with 30 days notice and asks to stay in a Royal household. I assume they will whisk him from Heathrow to Buckingham Palace and certainly when he and his family meet his father or brother even in private there will be plenty of security.

It might well be that his father and brother don’t want to meet him.

But it’s very clear from the judgement that he does get security when he’s in the UK. They don’t reveal if their guards are armed or not because they can’t. But I suspect sometimes they are. He can’t pay for his own armed protection because no one can here. So there is a contradiction right. Either he trusts the Met and their judgement. Or he doesn’t. If he doesn’t why has he just spent tax payer money and his own money asking for MORE protection from the same people he doesn’t trust?!

Viviennemary · 02/05/2025 21:59

Harry is a mega troublemaker. The king has got enough yo worry about without listening to Harry's constant whining.

Sunholidays · 02/05/2025 22:01

The King is right and he’s doing what he has to. He cannot trust Harry, a deluded lier with a toxic personality. Sadly he needed to go NC.

JudgeJ · 02/05/2025 22:01

MereNoelle · 02/05/2025 21:17

I assume he’s concerned that if he talks to Harry, Harry will put the conversations in his next book.

Harry will put his version of the conversations in his next riveting book, or the person who actually writes it will.

Theunamedcat · 02/05/2025 22:01

The government of the day demanded the children be trotted out

Charles and Diana's marriage was a mess but they were visibly getting along before her death

Harry was given mental health support as a child as an adult as well as more support than any of us would be given on the NHS

Charles tried he wasn't given a very supportive upbringing wrote a book about it he is a very emotional man his father was critical of him because of this it's not a secret

Charles has been open publicly to reconciliation with his son and Harry has denied him now the tables have turned Harry wants his dad back and his dad is saying no

Remember his dash to London when it was announced the king had cancer? The following day Harry is on good morning America (I think) nattering about what was said how is that building trust?

Harry isnt used to being told no it shows

NonComm · 02/05/2025 21:40

@HRTQueen
@MrsCravensworth
Agreed.
Charles also wrote a book criticising his parents and yet they didn’t ‘grey rock’ or go NC with him.
Charles cheated on Diana.
Charles married the mistress.
Charles allowed the press to bully H&M
Charles is the parent and should fix it with his son if he has any decency left in him.
Also, a retired senior Met officer (who will be better informed than any of us) confirmed that H & M’s lives were in danger.
H&M will never get fair treatment in this country.

We really do need that bollocks button!

tinkyandtonk · 02/05/2025 22:03

Oh leave them alone, we don't know everything.

bluesinthenight · 02/05/2025 22:03

My mother always told me that there was nothing I could do that would stop her loving me and being involved with me. I suppose poor people just have different values. Perhaps Charles is money rich and heart poor.

Lonelycrab · 02/05/2025 22:04

King Charles has barely a slither of his mothers grace, charm and wit.

I wouldn’t take too much notice of the DMs presentation of this, which is, let’s face it 99% of what opinion on this site is based on.

CandyflossKing · 02/05/2025 22:04

It's his words and perspective. Anyone can say anything but it doesn't make it true. He's fishing for attention and sympathy. In any event, I wouldn't want to talk to someone who you can't trust not to go running to the press etc.

or maybe he knows his family better than you do, and it might well be true they’d like to see her gone like Diana? Why are they immune to suspicion that they might be awful people? Because they’re rich and in the public eye?

Lacoutine · 02/05/2025 22:05

Does anyone else think that it looks as if Harry threatened the king/the Firm with a tell all interview if the case didn’t go his way, and is now following through?
The judgment went against you, Harry - and you/your family WOULD get protection if you gave notice and stayed on the royal estate, so why can they never come back to the UK? It is ridiculous, and though I don’t blame the king for not wanting to speak to Harry and have it all on Good Morning America the next day, I’m not sure I believe that he isn’t open to a reconciliation at all. It just won’t be on terms that Harry likes (maybe an apology for a start).

Createausername1970 · 02/05/2025 22:05

He is just on the BBC, bleating about it.

I used to really like Harry, had a lot of time for him. But if he can't see that going on TV and airing your family's dirty laundry in public is going to be difficult to get past, then he is incredibly dim.

He has been spouting off for about 7 years now. He needs to shut up for the next 7 years and maybe there might be a private reconciliation.

JudgeJ · 02/05/2025 22:06

BownnTown · 02/05/2025 21:44

When Harry said there are still truths that have not yet been told and “they’re out there already if you bother to look” I think he was on about his real parentage

But if he could prove he's not Charles' biological son then he loses everything, he's not Prince Harry and his Mrs wouldn't be too pleased. In fact he's the image of a bearded Prince Philip at a similar age, google Paris Match for the comparison.

Figgygal · 02/05/2025 22:06

Harry was the one who flame throwered all known bridges

Even his interview was full of insinuations of a really nasty nature.

He made his bed

His mother was hounded everywhere she went remember kate when she was dating William? The pursuit the abusive taunts to get a reaction them going for upskirt shots? Never happens with Harry and meghan they are fine the closest they get is a blurry shot of Harry and a child at a carnival? But chasing them about? Doesn't happen

LovelySG · 02/05/2025 22:07

If KC or PW say anything to him he will be rushing to whine about it in the next interview or book - quick as a flash. He’s constantly trying to breathe new life into a situation that’s over because his link to the royal family is the only thing he can monetise.

Highfivemum · 02/05/2025 22:08

considering Harry hates the press he spends a lot of time talking to them. Why would Harry want to be part of a family if all he said was true. And why would Charles want to speak to him if it will be in the news the next day. ? Charles is fighting cancer. He has enough on his plate without all Harry’s drama. He made his bed he needs to lie in it .
