Why are Kneecap not in prison?

1000 replies

BlossomBlanket · 29/04/2025 19:49

But Lucy Connelly is? Kneecap told people to kill their MPs. Why have they not been arrested.

(To be very clear, I do not condone violence of any kind towards anyone, I'm just asking as this seems like a double standard, can someone explain?)

I did neither of those things, but please feel free to point out where you believe I did. I'd genuinely like to know if I'm inadvertently doing so.

Not sure what your being "part Irish" has to do with anything.

Don’t bother, the ones who claim Irish family or Irish heritage are the least likely to actually understand the impact of colonisation and civil war on a population. They always think it is “in the past”. The troubles are our lives, our present, it happened to us. They think it happened to “our ancestors” like the Holocaust.

…and again ..

Lucy Connolly pled guilty and received the legislated punishment for the crime.

Kneecap are currently being investigated, may face charges, and will be punished in line with the legislated punishment for the crime.

Neither Connolly or Kneecap are free speech hero’s. Connolly makes racist comments, and Kneecap have made inciting comments.

Kneecap aren’t “left wing”

There is no two-tier system, despite what GBeebies and The Mail might say.

I haven't suggested they are free speech hero's.

I'm just pointing out - one has been arrested and the other hasn't. Do you believe kneecap will be going to prison?

Kneecap absolutely are "left" coded. In line with whatever it is the "left" now are. Guardian approved.

It only looks that way because you don’t understand how our legal system works. Spend ten mins on Wikipedia perhaps.

Which sections on Wikipedia do you think I should read or look at? I'm sincerely asking. Like I said in my comment I'm genuinely looking to be talked out of my belief. Vague gestures in the direction of Wikipedia - the largest deposit of knowledge known to mankind, are far from helpful and underscore the apparent inability to explain this discrepancy. As does calling people stupid and ignorant when they are asking for the information. It looks as though you are unable to give it.

Given your interest I’d start here https://www.cps.gov.uk/about-cps/how-a-criminal-case-works which takes you through the criminal process.

The ones who “claim Irish heritage and family “ are the ones who forebears often suffered most as they had to emigrate because of the Troubles ( and before that the Famine)

I'm part Irish

Absolutely none of what you say is any justification whatsoever for incitement to murder people.

Stop with the whataboutery and minimising.

Part Irish isn't the same as being from NI. I'm Irish, living in Ireland and that isn't the same as being from NI, particularly from somewhere like West Belfast. The Troubles have left a legacy of intergenerational trauma, 39% of people in NI witnessed a traumatic event, one of the highest rates of PTSD in the world with people from North and East Belfast being particularly effected, the rate of mental illness is the highest in the UK, male suicide is twice the rate as in England. Your a fine one to speak on minimising being 'half Irish' doesn't qualify you to speak on this.

OpheliaWasntMad · 30/04/2025 07:32

There is no excuse for Kneecap’s dreadful name or incitement to hatred and violence.

Are these lads not from NI? Which is far from a very wealthy and privileged nation. NI is the poorest region in the UK and one of the poorest countries in Europe.

You don’t seem to know what “left” means … these days it’s used as very lazy shorthand for anyone who disagrees with Gbeebies and The Mail.

What do you think “left” or “leftie” means?

One was arrested after an investigation, the other is being investigated..

We will see what crime they have committed, and what they may be charged with, at the end of the investigation.

Remember when Free Speech warrior Clarkson said all Civil Servants should be taken outside and shot … what was he charged with?

I’m not anti Irish in the slightest - I’m quite heavily of Irish descent myself and think it’s an amazing country with an amazing culture. But at some point the self defeating victim mindset has to stop - we are where we are, and endlessly dragging it up every time another conflict is mentioned is getting tiresome.

Thanks for your completely uninformed opinion.

Focusing on past bitterness and hatred is not the way to improve NI’s economy.

Utter rubbish.

I'm not sure how you can make sweeping statements claiming to know what people you don't think think or feel and keep a straight face.

Who said it was? I was just querying why you were bringing the wealth of Ireland into the discussion of a band that hails from an impoverished part of the UK. It didn't make any sense but maybe you can clarify?

They’ve been making a number of violent Incitements and terror supporting for months including at Coachella

The issue is at Cochella the band openly comdemed Israel and said "free palestine" which is not Americas stance on the topic so it's led to people trawling through the Internet dragging up anything they can to discredit the band.

My point was that dwelling on the past is unhelpful. Ireland is currently in much better place. There are countries that are suffering oppression NOW . Ireland is affluent and at peace and should focus on staying at peace .
Can’t stand the anti English hatred . ( or anti Irish hatred which Kneecap’s attitudes would help to revive)

My mother grew up in the North in what was termed “bandit country “
I remember it in the 70’s and 80’s as I was often there .
Im so very glad things are better now.
Can’t stand the stupidity of Kneecap who are definitely too young to have experienced how bad things were

They don't romanticise it but they don't pretend it doesn't exist. A lot of their music is about bringing catholics and protestants together. Not to mention they donated the grant money they won back to Shankill youth project.

I haven't minimised anything, I lost a family member ffs and have spoken on here previously about having PTSD myself.

It's pathetic attempting to use generational trauma as a justification for calling for people to be murdered. It's so bloody offensive.
