Why are Kneecap not in prison?

1000 replies

BlossomBlanket · 29/04/2025 19:49

But Lucy Connelly is? Kneecap told people to kill their MPs. Why have they not been arrested.

(To be very clear, I do not condone violence of any kind towards anyone, I'm just asking as this seems like a double standard, can someone explain?)

How on earth have I been a racist? I have said persistently that regardless of this trio's background they should not incite violence amd spout hate. Your personal attacks are very tedious. Can you try a bit of peace, hmm?

no point responding with logic or reasoning to trainbake … You’re wasting your time. He/ she is just trolling.

OpheliaWasntMad · 10/05/2025 21:21

I agree with Brendan Cox , the husband of murdered Jo Cox MP, he called Kneecap’s statement “half an apology”.
He said: “It’s fine to say that you’re sorry for it, but the way that they have actually spoken about it is to suggest that it’s a conspiracy, that they have been targeted unfairly, and for me, that then doesn’t come across as unfortunately particularly genuine.”

Jo Cox family says Kneecap offering ‘half an apology’ over alleged call to kill MPs

Husband of murdered Labour MP says Belfast rappers’ talk of being unfairly targeted undermines their statement

I'm pretty sure it was you that said you had a duty to call out stupid and racist views and then said Can you explain what stupid and racist comments I ( not others me - ^ ) ^so obviously you think your fellow kneecap haters have views based in anti Irish sentiment (or maybe you think they hate Palestinians?). Maybe you need to be clear about who you mean?

🤔
Nah… I don’t think so 👋

I think the initial question was a good one on freedom of speech generally. There was just a case with a former police officer arrested for tweeting to someone a sarcastic you’ll be doing x next. X being a storming of something.

His house ransacked by officers etc. People post similar all the time on here.

Yes . There was a chance to have a useful discussion about freedom of speech vs the promotion of hate and violence. Unfortunately Some posters are just determined to divert the topic .

Yes and when you Google Julian Foulkes only Daily Mail, telegraph and GBnews reporting on it. He was even told his books were a 'bit brexity'.
It's crazy what is deemed an arrestable offence and what isn't Tweet and comment wise. Do the police just make it up as they go along dependent on political views?

Can you imagine that outcome for a comment along those lines? You see similar on mn daily.

Yes… I don’t think she should have said what she said and I think there should be a penalty/ fine etc but a prison sentence is too much imo .
I don’t think her one off ( but vile ) comment was worse than Kneecaps calls to kill MPs / “Up Hamas” etc

Neither should go to prison but both types of behaviour should be condemned… ( without claiming that there is a conspiracy against Kneecap because of their pro Palestinian views )

I just found that article. What a ridiculous reaction to a social media post for crying out loud!
This is bigger now, again maybe I have read 1984 too many times but to be arrested for saying that?!

Again, it doesn’t matter to me one bit what side of the political spectrum you’re on or whether I agree with what someone has said on social media. I am totally against such drastic measures against words in this way.

I think you’re right that they’re making it up as they go along.

Page one had a comment “This is just another excuse for (some) Irish people to continue the grudge [against UK] . I doubt they give a shit about Palestine.”
and on page 40 anyone who hasn’t given up and said ‘yes ma’am’ is a troll.

👏 👏 wasn't there an attempt to deflect earlier by mentioning Iranian arrests somewhere in England amongst other comments. 😆

Recap as opposed to Kneecap.

The only good Tory is a dead one or similar wording.
This has been confirmed to have been on an election leaflet produced by Lib Dems and resulted in very little, if any outrage.
Then we have Kneecap, three lads from Belfast. Cue parliamentary outrage, chat show outrage, TV discussion outrage, radio outrage, columnist outrage, posters on MN outrage and on and on.

Kill an MP.
Jess Phillips current MP threatened Jeremy Corbyn as did Dan Hodges. Not forgetting the 'brave boys' in Afghanistan who used a mock up of Jeremy Corbyn as target practice. Frank Hester, big Tory party donor who said of Diane Abbott 'she would make you hate all black people' and 'she should be shot'. Where was the campaign to kick Phillips out of Labour and prevent her from standing as an MP? Where was the campaign to sack Hodges from the Daily Mail? Where was the campaign to disassociate Hester from the Tories? Aaah but Kneecap.

The hypocrisy is astounding but as many are aware the real reason for the attacks on Kneecap have nothing to do with comments made years ago. It is purely and simply because of their support for the Palestinian people who have now been deprived of humanitarian aid for almost 70 days. Not only that but the killing of Palestinians continues. The latest family, the Tlaib, mother father and three children all killed last night by Israel while sleeping in their tent. This is what Kneecap care about and why they have increased their music sales and added many new shows to their previous commitments. They found a new venue in Plymouth following the previous cancellation. They have now sold out 3 performances there!!

Much of the commentary has come from a lack of understanding of Kneecap's background and community.

Kneecap Abú!! Croppies still not lying down and never will!!

Gloriia · 11/05/2025 16:29

'Jess Phillips current MP threatened Jeremy Corbyn'

She didn't threaten him, she said unwisely she'd 'knife him in the front not the back'. Referring to a common phrase when someone is betrayed and 'stabbed in the back' she was suggesting whatever she had to say or do she'd say it to his face.

Anyway, she apologised like the wee kneecap laddies which makes it all ok apparently.

'Much of the commentary has come from a lack of understanding of Kneecap's background and community.'

Their 'background and community' does not excuse their up terrorism comments, nor their kill your MP rant.

The first part about Lib Dems is referring to which line specifically?

Yes - Kneecap’s comments can’t be excused because of their background and claims that there was a conspiracy against them because of their pro Palestinian views are also wrong.

This is incorrect. There was outrage. It wasn’t produced on a Lib Dem leaflet. There was condemnation of the phrase .

No one tried to make excuses for the Lib Dem candidates words by saying that her background and culture meant she should be judged by a different standard.

No one claimed that there was a conspiracy against the Lib Dem candidate because of her political views .

Everyone accepted it was wrong and shouldn’t have been said . No excuses
