What threads do you always hide?

If any!

If I scroll through and see anyone ask about accountancy help, HMRC advice, tax return, accounts etc I just hide them. I can't stand seeing 90% of the "advice" on those threads being absolute bollocks.

I used to hide the divorce ones when I was going through mine, I didn't want extra headspace going into it.

I Have To Hide Any Thread Where The Thread Title Is Written Like This.

It’s so bloody hard to type like that as well so why do they do it?!

saltinesandcoffeecups · 13/04/2025 19:58
  • Almost all of the dog hating ones can be spotted quickly by the title “why won’t they do something “ or similar
  • “I think he’s cheating”
  • I’m back to hiding anything with Trump in the title
  • ”are these lines’ and similar
  • Abortion threads
  • Animal rehoming

On the flip side I love a good benefit bun fight and the Vegan threads are highly amusing. I will instantly go for a work thread mostly because I can usually offer relevant advice. I’m also fascinated with the inheritance threads.

I won’t post in a highly emotive thread where the OP only has 1 one post.

I don’t hide these boards (I didn’t know it was an option) but I also avoid them. The posters are obsessed and bonkers - entering those boards is like stepping through a mirror into a crazed alternative universe.

Reading this thread is so refreshing. Now I know why those boards are only populated by bonkers people, because all the sane ones have hidden them 😆

Mysterian · 13/04/2025 20:13

Middleagedstriker · 13/04/2025 18:03

So true! They are equally as dogmatic and full of people who can't hold a sensible conversation even though I agree with the sentiment ofln the feminism board its so unnuanced it reminds me of trying to have a conversation with somebody from the socialist worker party.

There is that same "you must agree 100%. If you only agree 99.9% you are Satan" feeling.

VictorianChic · 13/04/2025 20:13

The Royal Family board - creepily obsessed with William, his wife, and their minor children.

Dogs in cafes.

Wedding invitations.

The irony 😂.

With a bit of luck hopefully you’ll finally do the same Tandora and spare us from the bonkers nonsense that you usually post over there.

Oh hello. Speak of the devil.

Ah no, I won’t hide those boards (or the threads that seep over into AIBU). Every now and then it’s important to interrupt the echo chamber. But I do have to limit it for the sake of my mental health.

Those who know (and agree on) basic fact = echo chamber. Gotcha.

Actually it’s quite beneficial at times for people (you) to come along and argue 2+2 is actually 5 because it suits your ideology. That and the usual lack of any coherent, intelligent argument to back it up. Highlights the absurdity. So thank you.

Are we going to do this on here 😆. Really now?

Yes- echo chamber. Hence the “feminism” board (really should be renamed the anti- trans board) repeatedly coming up on this thread as a board people hide- because of how one sided and unhinged the discussion is.

You have repeatedly commented on any post which mention feminism. Itching for it.

Yawn. Not anti-trans. Anti men in places and sports where they shouldn’t be, no matter how they identify. Hence why there are hardly ever any posts calling out trans men (females). It’s basic stuff which has been explained to you over, and over, and over again. If you and anyone else deem this as ‘anti-trans’ then that’s a you (and them) problem.

louderthan · 13/04/2025 20:36

The whole Christmas board. Any ‘what do you earn/how old are you’ threads because they inevitably make me feel shit about myself.

EffortlesslyInelegant · 13/04/2025 20:36

Any thread which starts off with some outrageous offence against the laws of nature and/or public decency and then goes on to list the main players as 'We'll call her Sue' or 'Let's call him Wayne'. Stop it right now.

applemash · 13/04/2025 20:41

ItGhoul · 13/04/2025 19:21

I don’t think it’s weird to want to remove minor irritations from one’s day, really. Hiding a thread, for me, is just like cleaning smudges off my glasses. They’re not upsetting me or ruining my day, but they’re there in my line of vision being mildly tiresome so I might as well deal with them.

Same here- I dont feel an urgent psychological need to hide certain threads but some just irritate me in the same way a fly in my room would, so I hide them.

Seems entirely sensible to me. If I could hide certain people I work with, I'd do that too- much like the black mirror episode where you could block people out in real life 😂

yes. It’s a relief to see.

As for the rest of it- best take it elsewhere else people will want to start hiding this thread too I imagine!

comedycentral · 13/04/2025 20:47

I don't think I've ever hidden a thread or even really knew it was a feature. I'd just avoid clicking on it.

Differentstarts · 13/04/2025 20:47

I try really hard to ignore the health anxiety or should I go to a&e threads but sometimes I can't help myself

Gwenhwyfar · 13/04/2025 20:48

I was going to say nothing, but it's true that I make a point never to open Sporners' Corner.
Also, I sometimes have to unfollow a thread if there's a disagreement and we're just going round in circles.

What, four, five posters on this thread from the amount of users on the site? Unfortunately there are others like you who buy into the Emperor’s New Clothes and think they can re-write science. What can you do.
Not really the victory you think it is.

Responding to you yes. That’s how discussion forums work.

whatwaytoturn · 13/04/2025 20:53

Babyloss threads. And I feel awful admitting that as I have experienced baby loss multiple times myself, and I know how lucky I am now to have children who are here with me. But I find reading the pain and anguish that these people are experiencing to be heart wrenching and I relate so much, that when I read them it takes me back to a time I don’t want to think about now. But when I see them, I might quick skim before hiding and do a silent prayer for them.

LoreOfBabylon · 13/04/2025 20:53

It seems most people agree which threads are filled with the worst kind of MN users.

strawlight · 13/04/2025 20:54

I’ve hidden the relationships board, because they tend to be long threads and I get sucked in, too time consuming.

I also don’t read stupidly long posts or join ones where the whole bloody saga could be solved by simply asking the person in question.
