What threads do you always hide?

If any!

If I scroll through and see anyone ask about accountancy help, HMRC advice, tax return, accounts etc I just hide them. I can't stand seeing 90% of the "advice" on those threads being absolute bollocks.

I used to hide the divorce ones when I was going through mine, I didn't want extra headspace going into it.

Oh I’ve just remembered another - the ask/answer the question above ones.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 13/04/2025 19:05

The Litter Tray - only since my cat died

I’m so sorry, @Thewalrusandthecarpenter.

I don't hide any threads I find needing to do so or feeling the need to do so is weird

Sounds like this thread isn't for you then..

Oh all threads are for all of us and your question in your op includes "if any"

The fact you need to hide threads says more about you than the threads you hide and the fact you try to suggest anyone leaves this threads just adds to that.

ItGhoul · 13/04/2025 19:16

All the anti-trans threads. Anything about Meghan Markle and/or Prince Harry. I’ve hidden the entire Feminism, Sex & Gender and Royal Family boards but people are mad goady twats who can’t resist posting their repetitive rants on those topics on AIBU and Chat. I tend to hide the benefit bashers as well, and the ones where people just want to talk about how much they hate dogs. Just so boring.

ItGhoul · 13/04/2025 19:17

ICanTellYouMissMe · 13/04/2025 18:27

Any of the long running cliquey ones with the hugely long cringey ‘hilarious’ in joke titles.

Oh yes, I hide these too

menopausalfart · 13/04/2025 19:18

I hide them for my mental health. I'm already quite near the edge.

SonoPazziQuestiRomani · 13/04/2025 19:21

I only found out recently that you can hide entire topics! It's a game changer as I tend to just look at Active and Watching. I've now hidden Weight Loss Jabs, The Dog House, The Litter Tray and several others.

I don’t think it’s weird to want to remove minor irritations from one’s day, really. Hiding a thread, for me, is just like cleaning smudges off my glasses. They’re not upsetting me or ruining my day, but they’re there in my line of vision being mildly tiresome so I might as well deal with them.

FidosMum84 · 13/04/2025 19:22

I didn’t know you could hide a thread.
But I avoid anything too long, with bad grammar or no full stops, anything clearly designed to incite hate or anger or anything that looks fake. And anything related to my job. I’m not being paid to give you my professional advice when I’m scrolling on here and most people would ignore it anyway.

Borgonzola · 13/04/2025 19:23

The sodding WAG / Cemantle / Cementle ones. Something about the words absolutely grates on me. I once asked MN if they couldn’t just automatically move them out of Chat to Gaming, but no, apparently that’s not necessary. So I see the words and grit my teeth while hiding them

Borgonzola · 13/04/2025 19:24

TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 13/04/2025 18:21

Any to do with word games

Yes, thank you!!! Arggghhhh

SonoPazziQuestiRomani · 13/04/2025 19:25

Tandora · 13/04/2025 17:19

why?

Because otherwise every other thread title in Active is about flipping Mounjaro. Which is tedious if it doesn't interest you - so I've hidden it. Just like I don't want to read yet another thread saying "I'm out the house 18 hours a day, which breed of dog shall I get?"

Hobnobswantshernameback · 13/04/2025 19:25

Ones where the OP posts some goady bollocks and never returns
the "how old do I look" ones
the " could I be pregnant ones"
the " is this a line" ones
the " let's call her Alice" ones

Hobnobswantshernameback · 13/04/2025 19:26

The three thread saga ones
the clearly bollocks ones that get the Pom poms waving

not really much left is there

maddening · 13/04/2025 18:15

I don't hide any threads I find needing to do so or feeling the need to do so is weird

It's not weird at all, it might depend on how you use the site. I click on active and read the titles, if I see one that I dont want to see again for any reason I click to hide it.

How could that be weird, some threads run and run and I don't want them clogging up my feed when I know I'm never going to read them

Seems sensible use of time to me

Oh yes the conception board was another one I've hidden. No more "line eyes" or "2WW" threads!!

scalt · 13/04/2025 19:30

The ones moaning about heat, nice weather, and summer. Our summer is much too short for that.

Also climate change ones, especially if the title invites virtue signalling.

OneFineDay13 · 13/04/2025 19:31

Pregnancy and child name ones

Mypoorbody · 13/04/2025 19:34

I’ve hidden Feminism and the Royal Family. Also quite a bit of parenting ones as just not relevant to me.
hide ones I know will annoy me - some benefits ones. Scroll past a lot of other stuff.

HeadNorth · 13/04/2025 19:35

jellyfishperiwinkle · 13/04/2025 17:02

I hide the Feminism sex & gender board and The Royal Family as I find posters on both absolutely nuts.

I don’t hide these boards (I didn’t know it was an option) but I also avoid them. The posters are obsessed and bonkers - entering those boards is like stepping through a mirror into a crazed alternative universe.

DearBee · 13/04/2025 19:37

'Should I go to A&E?' or similar.

'Help - what is this rash?' or similar.

Dress it up however you like, I'm not the one describing the actions of others as weird.. if more people passed over (or hid!) threads when they don't have anything useful or particularly friendly to add I'm sure Mumsnet would be a much more pleasant place.

This is why I've hidden the weight loss jabs board too.

I've also hidden Royal Family. I randomly hide threads as I go.
