Is the floral dress and white trainers look out?

So it’s been really nice as we all know. My go to for work is the floral dress and white trainers and I was told by my younger colleague this look is “out”

I know it doesn’t matter as long as you like what you wear, but I’m also conscious of not looking stylish but keeping my look “fresh”

Shoes, sandals, boots.

Are you middle aged and therefore causing young people discontent simply by your existence? In that case, Hotter slippers are the only way to go, I believe.

I’ve just bought some new white trainers…

So have I and I'll be wearing them with pride!

Where did you get the dress? I feel radishes would make a change from animal print!

Dress is from Joanie.
Today Im wearing my vegetable cardigan though!😀

Brefugee · 03/04/2025 10:21

I think the problem was it became a uniform. I went to a festival a couple of years ago and Every. Single. Woman. Looked. The. Same. Flowery dress, white trainers, denim jacket, cross body bag. It was embarrassing. It makes middle aged women look like sheep. (I am a middle aged woman btw so no ageism here.)

I don’t particularly care about something being ‘in’ but I can’t stand looking the same as everyone else.

I know what you mean. I went to the pool the other day and everyone was in swimwear, unimaginative sheep. Mortifying.
Seriously it was a festival, presumably in the summer so a dress is cooler and much easier to navigate minging toilets in a dress, trainers because your on your feet all day and in a crowd so heels or sandals aren’t a great idea, a jacket because it might get cold and a cross body bag because again it’s a crowded festival, you want hands free and other bags get knocked off your shoulder or get in the way. Presumably if it was raining you’d be moaning everyone was wearing a uniform of coats and wellingtons.
I’d love to know what pioneering clothing you were sporting?

You haven't explained the floral aspect ...

It was early autumn so quite warm. I have photos and I wore a denim skirt, floaty blouse, bare legs and flat ankle boots.

Just saying, there are other options!

ohhh do they have flashy lights in the soles?

Ha ha - no but that would be so cool! 😎

Do floral dresses need explanation? They've been around in some form for ages. My Mum got married in one in the seventies, My Grandma went dancing in them in the forties…

Kind of missing the point here ...

Well there’s currently a denim M&S jacket going viral on tiktok. I can’t link to the jacket as it’s not online for another week but people are going mental over it.

It’s what I’d consider a style which was popular a few years ago rather than a more boxy fit, indigo colour one which has seemed to be more popular recently.

so hope for all the denim jacket wearers, looks like the lighter denim jackets are back in! 😁

TheMoth · 03/04/2025 21:44

Does anyone remember the denim jacket redesigned as a blazer in the late 90s? Denim jackets in their natural state were not cool at all, but the blazer one became so. I had one then got rid of it. Reckon it'd work really well now.

henlake7 · 03/04/2025 21:47

This is why I like the retro/vintage look. Just pick a different decade and that way it's a whole look and not 'so last year!'.

I had a pale denim biker jacket around 1995. I really wish I could find another. It was really soft denim and lovely to wear.
