Is the floral dress and white trainers look out?

So it’s been really nice as we all know. My go to for work is the floral dress and white trainers and I was told by my younger colleague this look is “out”

I know it doesn’t matter as long as you like what you wear, but I’m also conscious of not looking stylish but keeping my look “fresh”

OP posts:

Oh no, how will I cope with being ‘well out of touch’ 😂 out of touch with what or with whom? Who is the arbiter for this?!

If you don’t live in London you should get there immediately, because I hate to tell you but there are many well out of touch women here today and yesterday, who clearly need your assistance! I just counted six pairs of women wearing white trainers in my tube carriage, help!

My post was responding to the OP who was asking for opinions about the white trainers/floral dress combo. OP clearly IS interested in knowing if that look has passed its moment. It has.
If other women want to continue wearing it that's their business-I'm not commenting on here for them.
Whilst I'm sure your opinion on my post is massively important (to you) it is of no interest to me, and I really don't care what you or other women 'in your Tube carriage' do or don't choose to wear. nor do I care whether you/they think it is in-trend or not.

Besides which it doesnt really matter if all the stylish women in London and Milan are wearing something if you live Hull and nobody else dresses like that near you! Being 'London fashionable' might just make you look abit weird if you are the only one doing it (although more power to you if thats your thing!).

Round here the summer wardrobe is mainly cycling shorts/leggings, tee/vest top and crocs/sliders. No brand names, mostly Primark and supermarket labels.
I like to see the floral dress/trainers/denim jacket look...at least it looks like somebody made an effort!
Im usually a weird dresser because I mostly wear maxis and baseball boots and it isnt really the uniform round here....maybe somewhere else Id be trendy!😀

You lot all waste so much of your lives judging other people's clothes.

I'm just enjoying judging the people who say "a trainer". What, just the one?

Thistlewoman · 02/04/2025 16:34

Wantitalltogoaway · 01/04/2025 21:58

Or maybe it’s that she posted in style and beauty and then everyone said they didn’t care about style or beauty…

Totally this. OP asked a simple question and then soooo many people came on here and posted saying 'they don't care about fashion' (so what??) and/or defending their choice to hang on to a past trend and completely ignoring OP's QUESTION.
And the number of people who don't understand the difference between fashionable and commonplace is funny/astonishing.

that will be the same people who talk about "a red lip" or a "plaid pant"

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 02/04/2025 16:38

It doesn’t matter if it’s out if you like it!

For context-

I’m aware it’s no longer fashionable but I’m going to wear what I feel like wearing.

I think it’s more something that’s passed into “unremarkable” territory rather than been an awful fashion faux pas - I don’t think anyone will think twice if you do wear it.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 02/04/2025 16:45

PS - My white trainers are from the children’s dept too so I bed I’m extra uncool and sneer-worthy! They are noticeably different than the adult equivalent 😬

This exactly - it very much depends on where you live. My DS does swimming lessons and rugby in an affluent town so loads of the mums can afford £100 trainers, dryrobes, and (a few years back) £65 Scamp and Dude/Hari and the Gang hoodies. Prior to this it was those Joules Harbour tops in stripes with floral print bits.
Where I live and work a few miles away, it's mostly supermarket stuff/Matalan - in fact the majority of mums at school dropoff are wearing some sort of uniform or joggers and a plain top for WFH. I probably look a bit odd - today I was wearing rolled up navy trousers, a white t shirt, pink trainers and a big fat belt. Pirate chic!.

ohhh do they have flashy lights in the soles?

People who keep saying the OP wanted ideas to freshen her look - she hasn’t come back. She didn’t want ideas at all.

I wore a floral dress to work today in honour of this thread. DMs rather than white trainers though.

I am looking forward to the weather getting warmer and wearing my still vast collection of them despite a drastic reduction last year.

Easipeelerie · 02/04/2025 18:14

Even in the late middle aged and old, I only see it rarely now.

Auburngal · 02/04/2025 18:18

Never follow fashion trends. I wear things that are comfy and bright. Then in the colder times, things that keep me warm

As to those people who have to get new items for their summer holiday, I think, do the locals and fellow hotel guests know you are wearing new stuff? No they don't!

Daisy12Maisie · 02/04/2025 18:21

I’ve put on weight and don’t fit in any of my jeans so I’m wearing dresses and trainers. I don’t care if it’s fashionable or not.

henlake7 · 02/04/2025 18:40

I recently bought a lovely floaty dress with a ditsy vegetable print, where does that put me?
Will I be more or less fashionable because my frock has radishes on and not flowers!?😆

She did, but all she got were people saying they don’t care what’s in fashion, as if it’s some kind of badge of honour. So she didn’t bother coming back.

Definitely more fashionable.

Hmmm. We’re going to have to agree to disagree on that.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/04/2025 18:47

And I didn’t see many alternatives being suggested either.

Leggings and white socks?

Coloured trainers?
A dress without flowers?
All terribly ground-breaking and unclonelike, I’m sure.

Where did you get the dress? I feel radishes would make a change from animal print!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/04/2025 19:23

Have you got radish earrings to match, like Luna Lovegood?

Brefugee · 02/04/2025 19:29

i have radish socks
