Is the floral dress and white trainers look out?

garricces · 30/03/2025 20:21

So it’s been really nice as we all know. My go to for work is the floral dress and white trainers and I was told by my younger colleague this look is “out”

I know it doesn’t matter as long as you like what you wear, but I’m also conscious of not looking stylish but keeping my look “fresh”

Oh no, how will I cope with being ‘well out of touch’ 😂 out of touch with what or with whom? Who is the arbiter for this?!

If you don’t live in London you should get there immediately, because I hate to tell you but there are many well out of touch women here today and yesterday, who clearly need your assistance! I just counted six pairs of women wearing white trainers in my tube carriage, help!

Agree
In London, women wear every brand of trainers imaginable and in all colours.

Is it a hanging offence to wear some that are not 'in' (according to someone else's ideas)?

Crocmush · 01/04/2025 16:23

It's an interesting form of fashion (trainers) as it's far more focused on the label than the shape of the shoe. This doesn't apply to clothes, other than sports stuff.

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 01/04/2025 16:25

Trainers have a shelf life too, @Justa60sRockChick. I've had my Vejas for five years. I am sorry if the thought of my getting a new pair offends you.

thenightsky · 01/04/2025 16:26

I wouldn't dream of throwing away a pair of trainers that weren't broken or split at the seams. Do people really do that?

But not as short a life as a lemon 😂

That's not what you were saying. You were suggesting ditching 'unfashionable labels' for more 'fashionable ' ones. If you meant to say 'when your current ones are worn out after 5 years or more'....(but you didn't say that.)

I'm not offended in the slightest, but you compared lemons with that fancy lemony juice (it's in my fridge but no lemon died in the purchase of it) and trainers.

Edited

'You compared lemons with trainers'.

I really didn't.

Yes, I'd say out in terms of looking a little dated. I'll still wear my white trainers but probably with jeans etc not floral midi dresses. I guess it was a formula that worked so well it got a bit over done. I wouldn't think anything of someone still wearing that look though.

My DS (13) did say the other day that my white trainers look nice, he then said "they're mum trainers but they are nice mum trainers" 😆.

WendyFromTransvisionWamp · 01/04/2025 16:55

I love Veja’s as they really suit my sligthly wide feet. I don’t see them much where I live which is why I like them too. You can’t move from New Balances though, to me they are too clompy, look like massive bread buns on feet 😜.

Vejas last me for about two years, then they get binned. The soles go first, all the grooves disappear and the heel starts to thin out. By then the whole shoe starts to look quite tatty. I do only have three trainer pairs at circulation at any one time, so all get heavy use. If you have more shoes, they will of course last longer.

Marioche · 01/04/2025 17:05

Flowery dresses and white trainers?
Now theres a thought...
🙂

doodahdayy · 01/04/2025 17:20

I have so many floral midis but they suit me and I’m middle aged. I’ve never been a fan of white trainers and do have some more colourful ones. I’ve never been able to wear those big new balance clumpy trainers. Make my feet look like boats. I also look like a fat little troll in the fashionable baggy clothes.

Did young lasses ever wear a floral dress and white trainers? I thought it was only ever us over 50s 35s that embraced that look.

Saw multiple late teens/early 20s wearing leggings, crocs and socks over the weekend. Wouldn't be trusting their fashion guidance.

@EmmaEmEmz Cold dead hands for me too! Don't do floral anything though.

Tbrh · 01/04/2025 07:50

Ha ha, and fair enough. I find the worst is when you're looking for something in a shop and then you find someone much older looking at the same thing 😆

And why would that matter? An item of clothing is simply that - you won't 'catch old' if you buy the same pair of trainers or same jumper as somebody older than you.

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 30/03/2025 22:55

‘Others don’t mind looking dated’ Miaow!

Others don’t want to look like fashion victims, slavishly following the next ridiculous ‘trend’.

The only one being catty is you.

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 01/04/2025 18:37

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 01/04/2025 15:15

I am wearing them right now

I don’t see how you can be because they’re out, I think it may even be illegal for you to still be wearing them!

Nanny0gg · 01/04/2025 18:39

Daisyrainbows · 30/03/2025 20:22

Yep it’s out. As soon as middle aged women wear it the younger ones move on. Then it’s a couple of years of older people wearing it then it’s out I think

Too late

I'm 'older' and shall continue to wear it

Vejas are definitely out, I haven’t seen a single person wearing them now
They are definitely ' in' at the city i live and work!

There seem to be a lot of people who don’t realise that something being worn by many people isn’t an indication of the item being fashionable. When things are worn by the masses they generally are no longer ‘in fashion’. It doesn’t matter. People can wear what they want buy the whole point of fashion is that is is ever changing and a reflection of changing trends in style, the economy, the general zeitgeist.
once it’s mainstream it becomes common place. No longer the height of fashion.

doodahdayy · 01/04/2025 18:44

Where does everyone get style inspiration from online? I find it hard to know what’s “in” until everyone is wearing it and then I’m too late. Not that I follow trends particularly but I would like to take more of an interest.

notacooldad · 01/04/2025 19:03

Although I do like the dress and white trainers I was just thinking back to last summer. I love dresses and yes I did wear white trainers to death but I also wore my lilac Dr Marten sliders and also I think they are called Dr Marten sandals called Voss ( i think)
I'll be repeating that again this year regardless of what anyone thinks.

Onafp · 01/04/2025 21:18

I'm interested as to why it's the poor old Vejas that have been so soundly thrashed out of the fashion ring? I've got two pairs, one black that I've had for years and wear to gym classes and a white/cream pair that I only bought last year. I will obviously still wear them but not with my trendier friends!

Brefugee · 01/04/2025 21:21

who cares if it is in or out?

tinkly laugh and "oh i could never be a slave to fashion, you end up wearing things that absolutely don't suit you"

then carry on wearing whatever the heck you like

Also, the OP hasn’t been back. My money is on Daily Heil journo.

Or maybe it’s that she posted in style and beauty and then everyone said they didn’t care about style or beauty…

Please don't listen to those who concern themselves so much about this. Remember that so-called fashion is a construct designed mainly to get you to spend money which you don't need to spend. Also given the impact of fast fashion, why not have a conscience instead.
