Are Europeans 'pathetic European free loaders'?

WhatsApp chat released today from the US calling Europeans 'pathetic European free-loaders'.

One of our closest allies! What about support from European countries after September 11th?

AIBU to expect more professional language?

I've popped different sources since aware some won't read if a particular source used

If you’re expecting professional language from the Trump administration you’re going to be waiting a long time 😩

ImmediateReaction · 25/03/2025 10:04

I'm surprised at the scathing tone used to describe 'allies' or 'close friends '

I think we Europeans know where the pocket-filling, bootlicking, slimy, lying freeloaders are currently hanging out and it's not this side of the Atlantic.

The endless stupidity of the Trump regime is boggling.

True.

From the point of discussing military action and not realising a journalist was on the WhatsApp group. That's also pretty unprofessional.

I agree. Elected by millions

I guess all the previous support from Europe counts for nothing with the current US government.

I can only imagine chronic under-investment in the US education system, has led to people like this, who seemingly have no knowledge about the times Europe has stepped up to support the USA. I wonder if their history curriculum is so inward facing, that they have missed out on great swathes of world events.

You would have hoped those on charge of global policies might have done a quick Google or Wiki though.

It’s a sad state of affairs.

They are turning in, very insular. Europe needs to come together and sort itself out and the next time the US expect support offer words but not actions.

Many Americans are sadly very poorly informed about anywhere outside their state, let alone their country.

I think we Europeans know where the pocket-filling, bootlicking, slimy, lying freeloaders are currently hanging out and it's not this side of the Atlantic.

But they have been busy supporting some of their placemen and women in Europe too - AfD in Germany, FPÖ in Austria, Reform in the UK, DF in Denmark and many others who all spout the same garbage as though they're all reading from the same playbook.

HRTQueen · 25/03/2025 10:14

I do not think this is an uncommon belief in the states many Americans are very insular in their look out hence why they now have this administration and president

Was not shocked about the lack of professionalisms, that's are low they have sunk the most powerful people in the world and few are shocked by this

Hardtotalkt · 25/03/2025 10:15

Where does he think the white people of the US come from? Him and his wife included.

Serpentstooth · 25/03/2025 10:16

Agreed. It's supremely depressing. If we don't keep on calling them out we will all be repenting at leisure very soon.

Serpentstooth · 25/03/2025 10:17

JD Vance wife is Indian. Go figure , as they like to say.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/03/2025 10:18

YANBU.

However, I think it is true that many European countries really haven’t pulled their weight with defence spending, and we’ve become far to reliant on the US. There are historical reasons for this, obviously but any assumption that America would act beyond America’s own interests was, and is, dangerously naive.

Ah, but isn't he Scottish, not European? Wink

Whatsinanamehey · 25/03/2025 10:19

I wonder what Keir Starmer thinks of this? It's time he stops ass licking to the Trump administration and realises the unique relationship we once had, is no more.

Jabtastic · 25/03/2025 10:13

... and as for history many Americans cannot fathom that there was anything happening on the planet before about 1975, or that the US was not the "first" country to do anything and everything. Trump had no idea about what happened at Pearl Harbor, when it happened and why it was significant.

KimberleyClark · 25/03/2025 10:21

I wonder how many of those who voted for Brexit would still have done so had they known what was going to happen to the US.

ForRealCat · 25/03/2025 10:21

I think from the whatsapp chats that have been released from our politicians over in the UK you shouldn't be surprised at the tone used here. Politicians naively believe these communications are private and they can get away with saying what they like. I am not condoning the US administration here, but this is certainly not a problem unique to them.
