To knock on a door at 7am on a Sunday

Hi

My cat has been missing since yesterday evening and I’ve just found him up an incredibly tall tree up the road. I’ll contact an emergency tree surgeon asap. How early is it reasonable to knock on a neighbours door on a Sunday? AIBU to knock at 7am? They live a few doors up so I’ve never met them

7 is very early to knock on a Sunday. Why do you need your neighbor, is it their tree?

Nowthereistwo · 23/03/2025 05:51

Why are you knocking and What do you expect them to do?

Do not knock anytime before 8 unless you see signs of life earlier.

TooTrue2005 · 23/03/2025 05:52

Call the fire service not a tree surgeon - tree might be protected

So glad you found your cat ❤️

pilates · 23/03/2025 05:52

9am is more reasonable on a Sunday.

GRex · 23/03/2025 05:53

Why do you want a tree surgeon? Why are you knocking for neighbours? Cats usually come down on their own after a bit. Your best option would be to put a ladder or even just big branches against the tree to make an easier exit and lure the cat back down with food.

FreddoSwaggins · 23/03/2025 05:54

10 at the earlier. Cold calling anyone at 7am, on any day of the week is crazy.

Go stand under the tree with your cat's favourite food. Unless he was flown up by an eagle, he got up there, he can get down.

BlondiePortz · 23/03/2025 05:54

Is it your neighbours tree?

CatRescueNeeded · 23/03/2025 05:54

Yes, it’s in their garden so will need to speak to them before a tree surgeon hopefully turns up

ok, I’ll wait until at least 8 then. Poor cat sounds so scared!

cat is aboit 3 storeys up - a ladder isn’t going to do it!

Way too early in my world for a Sunday! It must be frustrating for you but I would wait at least until 8.30 am. I hope you manage to get your cat down safely.

The cat can climb down. The ladder or branches are to show it that's the way down.

It’s in their front garden, near the house. Surely it would be worse to go wandering around with food and ladders etc without even knocking!

9am is socially acceptable.
8am if there's actual danger.
7am is not acceptable and you don't need a tree surgeon.

"Stuck up a tree" cats are not really stuck 9 times out of 10. How sure are you that it wants to come down. Have you tried opening a tin of tuna nearby?

BlondiePortz · 23/03/2025 06:00

Even if a tree surgeon was needed how quock do you think it would turn up at 7am on a Sunday morning

I know it wants to come down by the heartbreaking noise it’s making, plus he’s never out of the house for more than a couple of hours (and never overnight)

The fire service won't come out for this, unless a danger to human life. A tree surgeon will climb the tree safely and get the cat out. They are not going to cut down the tree.

GRex · 23/03/2025 06:01

In the front garden - no, just sort your cat out instead of waking everyone up. 3 stories is very high for a human, but most cats would be fine even if they fell from that height. Honestly - offer food and encourage it down.

I'm still confused about what you want the tree surgeon for. A random bloke approaching will just make the cat jump down, which it can do when it wants to anyway.

taxguru · 23/03/2025 06:01

If you knocked at my door at 7am you’d be told to bugger off if my house isn’t on fire and come back at 10! A cat up a tree isn’t an emergency.

BlondiePortz · 23/03/2025 06:03

Just stick a note in their letterbox

MonaChopsis · 23/03/2025 06:07

Our (then) 6 month old kitten climbed about 2 storeys up a tree the first time she was allowed out in the garden, and made the most pitiful noises.

We opened up a can of tuna at the bottom, and let her work it out... It took her 30 mins to gather her courage, but she figured it out and was fine.

Longsummerdays25 · 23/03/2025 06:12

Have you been out with food op? The cat got up there, it can get down the same way.

You can not wake up your neighbours at this time over a cat in a tree. Leave a note and knock at 9am or 10am.

whichkindof · 23/03/2025 06:13

I second the tuna, or dreamies ! Any chance of a picture op?

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 23/03/2025 06:14

I wouldn’t knock until the tree surgeon was on the way. I would hang around by the tree and hope the home owner realises.

8am is too early on any day let alone sunday.
People have shit to do in the mornings,
Your cat can sit there until at least 9am

Moonnstars · 23/03/2025 06:15

Wait til 9am at the earliest unless you see them up and out.
