To knock on a door at 7am on a Sunday

Hi

My cat has been missing since yesterday evening and I’ve just found him up an incredibly tall tree up the road. I’ll contact an emergency tree surgeon asap. How early is it reasonable to knock on a neighbours door on a Sunday? AIBU to knock at 7am? They live a few doors up so I’ve never met them

Thanks all. Leaving a ladder propped against the tree with some food at the bottom worked - he just came in

Brilliant! Good cat.

Great news ! Now go and serve your master 😆🐈

I would be annoyed until I knew why, and then I would be hanging out of my window to help with the rescue

JacqFrost · 23/03/2025 07:09

As long as you can see your cat safe and well in the tree I'd hold off knocking on the door till 9. Cats are streetwise and sturdy enough to hang around for a bit or more likely find it's own way down.

Some PPs are really dense for thinking a tree surgeon would come out, chainsaw blazing and cut a fking tree down with a cat still in it!

For anyone hard of thinking - tree surgeons are experienced tree climbers and it is this skill that will be employed. 🤦🏼‍♀️

If you knocked at my door at 7am you’d be told to bugger off if my house isn’t on fire and come back at 10! A cat up a tree isn’t an emergency.

This . I wouldn’t be happy at you calling before 10 really.

Eldermilleniallyogii · 23/03/2025 07:15

Can you call the fire brigade now and then you might get an idea of when they'll come. They might say they won't be there until after 9 anyway.

Happy Sunday to you all x

Aw brilliant.

Mancala · 23/03/2025 07:21

Glad it's resolved op.

I'm wondering, were you really outside searching for your cat before 6am in the dark? Or did it just choose that moment to start wailing and wake you (and so presume the neighbours!?) up?

Spookypoo · 23/03/2025 07:21

Great news, I’m sure he’ll be getting extra cuddles and food today.

The fire service won't come out for this, unless a danger to human life. A tree surgeon will climb the tree safely and get the cat out. They are not going to cut down the tree.

Odd because they came out to mine when he was stuck up a tree and were fantastic.

I thought I was a grumpy old bugger but a knock at 7am because you were worried about a loved pet would not bother me.

Snap!

Longsummerdays25 · 23/03/2025 07:24

I like a happy ending!

That’s sad when it’s for an animal in distress.

Not for a cat which has only been up there for a matter of hours. I see the cat is now down which proves the point. the cat got up there, it will come down on its own nine times out of ten. And the distressed miaowing is what cats do before they put their brain in gear to resolve their situation.

Just one of a myriad of fire services who say they don't usually come out for this.

Pleased he is down and safe .

Badgerandfox227 · 23/03/2025 07:37

I wouldn’t knock until 10am on a Sunday

Happyfeet234 · 23/03/2025 07:39

My friend who is a fireman who gets cat up tree calls all the time said there’s a reason you don’t see cat skeletons in trees. They usually get themselves down. That said if it was my very non savvy, slightly overweight ragdoll mix up there I’d be calling someone. Not a tree surgeon though, probably a roofer or window cleaner who has very tall ladders and would do me a favour on a Sunday. Tree surgeon isn’t really needed.

answer to question I would say 9am

sashh · 23/03/2025 07:46

Glad he is home.

Not strange at all, cats are cute ! And seeing the tree may help suggestions etc

How good a picture do you think it will be if the cat is three stories up? It would be a blurred dot at best, not a cute picture.
