Dryrobe W****r

CareerChange24 · 07/02/2025 15:48

Am I being unreasonable that I’ve discovered there is a Facebook page taking non consenting photos of lone women and children in dryrobes and mocking them. Or am I a snowflake? I wear one. Whilst I know they aren’t a stylish choice. It’s the most practical thing I’ve owned in years. I would be furious if someone took a photo of me and uploaded it

Just looked on the page. It is weird they’re taking photos like that and uploading them, but I suppose it’s not illegal. They’re an interesting choice of clothing though tbf 😬

TomatoSandwiches · 07/02/2025 15:58

I'd rather be a dry robe wanker than a weirdo taking photos of random women and children wouldn't you? 😂

NooNakedJacuzziness · 07/02/2025 16:02

You can only be a dry robe wanker if you're wearing one miles from the sea, I.e in Asda. Plus points for wearing with crocs. And it's definitely not just women they target!

Agree it's a bit mean but all faces have to be blanked out.

Loveumagenta · 07/02/2025 16:04

Being a DryRobe Wanker ( and surfer/wild swimmer) myself I totally agree!
There’s various SM feeds like this - and as I live in a seaside town Inrecognise some of the ‘wankers’ and the locations.
One was posted of a DRW crossing a road - the road opposite our main beach as it happens but you couldn’t tell that from the photo. What a wanker! Walking back to their car after a swim!
Another one was a friend of mine in a CO-OP - DRW is shopping! Yeah, she was because that Co—Op is right around the corner from the beach and We often pop in post swim to pick up breakfast bits before heading home to shower/change for work.

You’ll find OP that it’s mainly angry men posting - because how dare a women wear something - practical, oversized, warm that allows her to keep dry watching her kids play sport, or after exercising. Or for camping or walking the dog in awful weather. Or heaven forbid - change clothes discreetly in. Public place.
wankers!!!!!

Benjibas · 07/02/2025 16:05

There’s also a page for The Wolf Fleece Appreciation Society where they upload pictures of people wearing clothes with wolves on. It shouldn’t be allowed really. It’s mean.

Definitely! How bloody weird is it to judge someone for wearing a big coat - which is essentially what they are. Big, warm and waterproof.

CerealPosterHere · 07/02/2025 16:06

I agree it’s a weird thing to do, taking and posting the photos. There is or was also a similar site for men in red trousers. Don’t think they blanked the faces out either.

Loveumagenta · 07/02/2025 16:06

There is a really good DRW page where robe owners like meself can post pics of themselves being DRWs! Thats quite funny.

paradisecityx · 07/02/2025 16:07

I've got one for walking my dog when it's pissjng down. I live in Kent, miles from the coast, and I couldn't give a shiny shit what people think.
What a weird world we live in 🤔 do people genuinely not have better things to be doing with their time?

TrumpsOrangeNoggin · 07/02/2025 16:07

The Wolef fleece though is a thing of beauty- and fabled on mn, maybe they're just admiring the Wolefs?

@Benjibas

yodog · 07/02/2025 16:07

Got to admit was planning on buying one, thought they'd be perfect for dog walks and all the camping trips we go on, then I came across the group on Facebook and was totally put off by them.

ChangeyerNameyer · 07/02/2025 16:09

It’s a weird thing to do.
I once wore mine on a plane because it was too big to pack and I was going on a surfing holiday. And during the flight we all wore face masks and I also had an eye mask. I’m sure there’s a picture of me looking really weird on a page like that somewhere 🤣

Pinkflowerpower · 07/02/2025 16:10

It’s basically a glorified dressing down. Who wouldn’t want to wear a snuggly robe!
I’d love the balls to wear one !!!! I I woild
wear one for walking the dog !!! Or if I did water sports. I see people walking around every where in them… Almost like a blanket over a coat in the cold ? My mother thinks they are desperately trying to hard and hates sea swimmers with a passion! She thinks people from London are pushing up house prices and walking around drinking expensive coffee in her once cheap seaside now gentrified home !

DUsername · 07/02/2025 16:10

That page is so stupid. It might have had some relevance years ago when people only really wore dry robes for specific sport activities so seeing someone wearing one outside of that looked odd but they've grown in popularity so much that they're everywhere now.

Benjibas · 07/02/2025 16:10

@Benjibas

I don’t doubt it but no, they’re quite mean about them.

PearlClutzsche · 07/02/2025 16:10

I'm shocked that 44% of those who've voted think it's OK to photograph people (including children) without their consent, and then plaster their pics online to be mocked.

Shocking how horrible this place has become.

TheChosenTwo · 07/02/2025 16:11

Well I wouldn’t mind anyone photographing me in mine because I only wear them from my car to the lake and back again!
I haven’t seen the page you mean but the more traffic directed to it the bigger reason to keep taking the photos and posting them. It just drives engagement.
Ignore the group going forwards.
They’re handy for post swim but other than that they’re not very practical for going about daily business, they’re cumbersome. I have better coats suited to the appropriate occasion.

DaphneFlower · 07/02/2025 16:11

I don't own one but don't see what's so hilarious about them that you'd put up photos for people to giggle over.

wankers!!!!!

Quite.

There was a trend of men taking and sharing photos to shame women for eating in public.

Hufflemuff · 07/02/2025 16:12

It's quite funny, but it is also very mean and definitely intrusive!

There's another one called "Wolf fleece appreciation society" or something similar and I always laugh at that 😂 they're fucking horrible.

It does reak of "do as I say not as I do" because we would hate for our kids to upload pictures of people on the Internet and mock them.

museumum · 07/02/2025 16:13

I don’t give a shit. I put mine on after trail running and mountain biking. Nowhere near the sea but I’m still wet cold and it protects my car seats. Couldn’t care less if people want to laugh.

Serencwtch · 07/02/2025 16:15

It's horrible. There's another one about people in wolf fleeces with its own lingo eg 'dole pole & PIP stick' for walking stick Real punching down & a form of harassment.
I keep reporting them but they don't break any of the sites rules. Thousands of followers & you just get laughed at & blocked if you comment.
I block or hide them if they pop up but glad I'm not the only one!!

Loveumagenta · 07/02/2025 16:16

‘Quite.

yea, was about to say that!
Tiny little angry men, they’re everywhere.

SecondMrsTanqueray · 07/02/2025 16:16

A woman in my office wears one. She actually looks like a mobile tent.

I think the ‘dry robe wanker’ thing is quite funny, like the ‘look at my fucking red trousers’ one.

Holgen · 07/02/2025 16:17

There’s also many fb groups/reddit threads about people who wear military apparel whereby a location is “marked safe”. It’s usually daysacks on backs (so little by way of identification).

but photographs can be taken in public without consent, and used without consent (if the identification of people is removed) i believe,
