Dryrobe W****r

CareerChange24 · 07/02/2025 15:48

Am I being unreasonable that I’ve discovered there is a Facebook page taking non consenting photos of lone women and children in dryrobes and mocking them. Or am I a snowflake? I wear one. Whilst I know they aren’t a stylish choice. It’s the most practical thing I’ve owned in years. I would be furious if someone took a photo of me and uploaded it

You can only be a dry robe wanker if you're wearing one miles from the sea, I.e in Asda. Plus points for wearing with crocs. And it's definitely not just women they target!

Agree it's a bit mean but all faces have to be blanked out.

I often wear one in Tesco. But it's basically at the beach and I've usually just been swimming. And often with crocs. Or uggs.

abracadabra1980 · 07/02/2025 17:31

Yeah, its mean. I bought one ages ago, knowing the Facebook group exists. I walk dogs, swim with dogs, and attend dog events in all weathers. I also potter around in my campervan. I really don't give a crap. It's the warmest apparel, ever. In addition to this social shame, I also own a coat which is not Dryrobe, but looks exactly like one, except for it's fleecy lined. Sticks and stones and all that....

I'm sorry but 40+ posts A DAY? does no-one have anything resembling a life anymore?

exactly.

" Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"
"Take photos of random strangers wearing warm coats while going about their daily lives, and upload it to a website with a "witty" caption to mock them..."

I think I'd get more satisfaction, amusement and intellectual stimulation from picking my toenails. I don't know about "furious," though, I think I'd just feel a bit depressed that so many people had literally nothing better to do.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 07/02/2025 17:33

The group is mean, although, a lot of people do look ridiculous in them tbf

i I have a (cheaper version) dry robe I wear to the outdoor pool. One time I needed to go shopping after swimming and I had forgot my coat and only had the robe, I went into the shop in my shirt sleeves rather than the DR as I was afraid I’d end up on the page

Me too, it’s also illegal to distribute or take photos of people in vulnerable situations…

It's actually not illegal at all to take someone's picture in a public place and distribute it elsewhere. Even if people are identifiable. I'm not sure you could call wearing a coat in public 'a vulnerable situation'.

To be clear I'm not saying I agree with it, I think it must be full of sad people with too much time on their hands. But it's not illegal.

Don't agree, I often stop at the supermarket on the way back from a swim, not in the sea but lucky enoughto live near several lochs. I also wear it dogwalking in the winter as it's by far my most practical coat. I swim outdoors all year round but people won't necessarily know that so the best thing is just not to give a shit what people think

spikefaithbuffy · 07/02/2025 17:37

It's ridiculous
Like I might be miles from the sea but I've just finished swimming in a reservoir so yes, I'm wearing one!

MinnieBalloon · 07/02/2025 17:37

Is it in a public place? Then they don’t need consent to take photos of anyone else, adult or child.

Duckyfondant · 07/02/2025 17:38

This thread has persuaded me that there is in fact a dry robe wearer personality. The FB page is dull but the whining over anonymous photos on the internet is quite funny

menopausalmare · 07/02/2025 17:41

Have you seen the website ' look at my fucking red trousers'? Mostly men, if you're worried that mostly women are dryrobe wankers.

Unpaidviewer · 07/02/2025 17:41

Last time someone posted about this group I checked it out. And someone in the group had highlighted the profile picture of one of the men who had been taking photos of women. He was a rotund, older guy, wearing skinny jeans, and he looked like he needed a wash. People in glass houses came to mind...

I meant association with washing bathing changing swimming. And if it’s minors or adults with disabilities, sick or elderly people it is. Have had two instances of this to deal with in the out doors, students changing after canoeing and students drying after stream walking. Bad. These guys are bold, they don’t care that an adult is remonstrating with them, they just keep clicking….shameless.

AllFadestoBlack · 07/02/2025 17:43

I must be DRW, I have a regatta camouflage one that I wear on freezing cold days when it's pouring down rain. For regular rainy days I have a rain coat. I don't live near the beach and I can't even swim.

I've seen the posts on Facebook and I think it's really sad that people take the time to not only take photos but to post them online and mock people wearing them. I don't think they're a crime against fashion either, honestly who cares what someone else is wearing.

MumblesParty · 07/02/2025 17:44

What makes dry robes different from coats? Are they lined with toweling?

Movinghouseatlast · 07/02/2025 17:45

Yes, it's awful, pathetic really.

If you spend £150 on a coat to wear after swimming I don't understand why wearing it at other times is so wrong. I only swim in the sea once a week, but it's actually a great raincoat!+

It's not illegal to take pictures of children in public (weirdly). Obviously if people were changing then yes that would be different.

Lemonyfuckit · 07/02/2025 17:46

I think it says everything about the people doing this and nothing about the people wearing dryrobes. How weird (and creepy and pathetic) to take photos of strangers and upload them to a page to mock someone for what they're wearing. Continue wearing your dryrobe, it's very practical whether you've been for a swim or not!

Figgygal · 07/02/2025 17:50

I must ask the wearers What is wrong with a decent coat?

They were, all wiggling in their towels at our vehicles. When I moved to take his camera he shot off.

It's might be legal but taking photos of strangers to put on the internet for people to laugh at is shitty behaviour. Particularly pictures of children.

It might be against Facebook's t+cs I guess, but I can't imagine they'd do anything about it, they tolerate far worse stuff. Scummy company, still can't believe Nick Clegg went to work for them- I guess everyone has their price

This. A criteria has to be met before one can be officially declared a dry robe wanker.

Sneezeless · 07/02/2025 17:52

I'm going to buy a wolf fleece now.

MrsMoastyToasty · 07/02/2025 17:53

Let's start a wanky mens hairstyles site.
I would start with the mullet and the man bun.

Maybe hyperbolic with the furious. But I wouldn’t be happy if I caught someone taking sneaky photos. Just plain weird in my world.
