Dryrobe W****r

CareerChange24 · 07/02/2025 15:48

Am I being unreasonable that I’ve discovered there is a Facebook page taking non consenting photos of lone women and children in dryrobes and mocking them. Or am I a snowflake? I wear one. Whilst I know they aren’t a stylish choice. It’s the most practical thing I’ve owned in years. I would be furious if someone took a photo of me and uploaded it

I would never stop taking pictures if I had to take pics of every person I saw in a dry robe (live in a seaside town). Coincidentally I saw a chap in a humdinger of a wolf fleece this morning and noted to myself that I hadn't seen one in ages. What is the new wolf fleece, I wonder?

SecondMrsTanqueray · 07/02/2025 18:00

Whilst I think the piss taking is funny, the actual act of bothering to take a photo of a stranger is odd.

I sometimes wonder if people recognise themselves. A bit like when they do a news item on obesity and use footage of fat people walking along (not showing faces). Must be mortifying.

bugalugs45 · 07/02/2025 18:03

I've got the cheap knock off version from Aldi , £40 I think it was just before Xmas ,
I couldn't care less what people think , I Iove it for dog walks .
Maybe I'll appear on the imposter dry robe wanker page , I can only hope 🤣

I agree it’s a weird thing to do, taking and posting the photos. There is or was also a similar site for men in red trousers. Don’t think they blanked the faces out either.

the red trousers are only pictures of pen allowed

Wemaybebetterstrangers · 07/02/2025 18:05

You just know that anyone that starts / contributes to a page called Dry Robe Wankers is a pasty faced very skinny or potbellied friendless misogynistic male loser. Bless them if that’s what they need to do to make their sad little lives meaningful!

(they probably couldn’t afford one either)

BreezyScroller · 07/02/2025 18:06

NooNakedJacuzziness · 07/02/2025 16:02

You can only be a dry robe wanker if you're wearing one miles from the sea, I.e in Asda. Plus points for wearing with crocs. And it's definitely not just women they target!

Agree it's a bit mean but all faces have to be blanked out.

what a stupid idea. I am really torn between laughing or feeling pity for those people on these insulting groups who can't have much of a life.

Dry Robe are expensive, comfy, waterproof and warm. WHY would you not wear them whenever you feel like it if you have one?

A wet suit or a pair of skis, you would have a point. As you don't wear the dry robe IN the sea, no reason whatsoever not to wear them.

The only pathetic ones would be people wih a dry robe in the car who wouldn't dare wearing them in public in case it gives a bored online keyboard warrior something to bitch about.

If we start asking for the opinions of losers to get dressed in the morning, we'd never leave the house 😂

Finetoday · 07/02/2025 18:07

I’ve been in both of the groups mentioned, and admit I thought they were funny for about 3 days.
Then it’s just boring run of the mill bullying so I left.

HoraceCope · 07/02/2025 18:04

the red trousers are only pictures of pen allowed

aargh only pictures of MEN are allowed

Daisymae55 · 07/02/2025 18:12

I’ll be honest, my husband and I are always judging people who wear them. Quietly to each other.

That being said, the fact there are people who are photographing others to notch about on social media, thats just pathetic. I’m definitely judging them way harder than I judge the dry robe wankers.

Also it’s just creepy that people do this.

CareerChange24 · 07/02/2025 18:14

Someone asked are they like a towel…I went to the doctors. Wasn’t feeling my best and she examined me. She said right. Take your towel off. The shadiness when she said it 😂😂 thought it was funny.

I can attest they are fully fleeced and towel like. The thickness of a towel. The softness of fleece. And when I went swimming in the sea and sat on the sand to dry off. It didn’t get all clogged up like you’d think inside with sand. I highly rate them.

DRW’s have a certain personality someone has put? I will wear that personality like a badge of honour. The fact I’m too old to care what I look like as long as I’m warm and happy. And the fact in may not be illegal. But morally. To think a man has ten photos on his iCloud of a child and lone women. It’s beyond creepy and not in the slightest bit funny.

I don't give a flying fuck what people think of me in mine. It is the best investment in clothing I have ever made. Early morning wet cold walks with the dogs are really not a chore any more. I wear mine mainly to walk the dogs but also on the school run if it's wet and I am waiting at the gate. I would nip to the shops in it as well if it was chucking it down. I would rather be warm and dry and looking sexy and wet.

Octavia64 · 07/02/2025 18:16

I have a cheap knock off.

There's lots of brands out there now that are a lot cheaper than dryrobe. Even Lidl do them.

To a pp, yes they are lined with fluffy stuff. The idea is that you can get out the sea in your swimsuit, then put the dry robe on. They are then big enough you can get changed inside them without flashing anything.

Mountainfrog · 07/02/2025 18:16

Does it not just reflect the fact we’ve only had about 4 dry days since October… and pretty much all wet weather coats which claim to be waterproof leak at the seams. I don’t own a dry robe btw but I do see the appeal

(also have a soft spot for a wolf fleece)

argyllherewecome · 07/02/2025 18:19

I've seen people here mocking others wearing them, as in "you know the type of people who wear a Dry Robe in the middle of town..". People should wear whatever they want.

DopeyS · 07/02/2025 18:19

It kept suggesting it as a group to me on Facebook for a while. It was irritating as I think it's people taking the piss because they're wearing it outside of it's designated use. It is very mean though. I've just bought one, I don't think I'll wear it to the shops because of the size but if I did so what? Loads of brands started for one reason and now people wear them for all sorts because they've become fashion or are just useful. They're not much different to the massive puffy coats or calf length gilets that people wear. They're comfy and keep people warm/dry.

TerrysNeapolitan · 07/02/2025 18:24

Am I the only person who had to Google Dry Robe? This is a new concept for me! Sorry very behind, will go back under my rock....

Chuchoter · 07/02/2025 18:26

It's a step up from the Wolf Fleece spotting page which was hilarious.

Oriunda · 07/02/2025 18:31

My son has the towelling only Dry Robe. Bought it for him 6 years ago when he was doing swimming lessons in a centre with not enough cubicles. He’s still using it; perfect at the beach and doubles as his towel after the shower. Great value per wear.

Sherararara · 07/02/2025 18:36

I totally judge people wearing outside of the original purpose - so basically all the mums on the school run thinking they are being fashionable but actually they look atrocious. Just looks like a tent and is not a good look on anyway shape or form. It tends to be the larger lady who wears them and maybe they think it’s a better look? Trust me it isn’t.

Drfosters · 07/02/2025 18:36

Sorry if this has been answered but what is wrong with them exactly? I don’t own one, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anyone wearing one, but isn’t it just a coat (albeit perhaps not a super fashionable one but neither is my rain mac!)

KittenPause · 07/02/2025 18:39

The only people I have seen wearing them around town and not on the beach are overweight people so I just presume they wear their dry robes as coats because they think it looks better than looking overweight in a coat for some reason

GoodEnoughParents · 07/02/2025 18:43

Clearly these people have nothing better to do than mock others

LBFseBrom · 07/02/2025 18:44

I've never heard of a dry robe. I now want to google but am afraid of what will come up!
Oh now I have, they look warm, suitable for outdoorsy activities. What's the big deal?

Porcelainpig · 07/02/2025 18:44

It's a coat. Very strange to set up a page about it. I do look like the grim reaper in mine though.

Is it gammony men who are too fat and lazy to swim that post these pictures?

It's not like they are expensive anymore and it's a look at me I have money thing that people might be jealous of. You can get them under 50 quid now. It's just jealousy of people being outdoorsy, warm and dry, which is really odd.

I lost five and a half stone. Same size fits me then and now as it’s so oversized. Fat phobia aswell as class snobbery. Nice. I own a few Barbour’s and country clobber as I own a horse. No one has ever told me I should only wear my equestrian coat near a horse and no where else. When you are obese. You deserve to be warm and cozy just as much as a slim person. What should they wear? If they walked round with belly rolls hanging out you’d say that was hurting your eyes. Can’t win.
