Dryrobe W****r

Am I being unreasonable that I’ve discovered there is a Facebook page taking non consenting photos of lone women and children in dryrobes and mocking them. Or am I a snowflake? I wear one. Whilst I know they aren’t a stylish choice. It’s the most practical thing I’ve owned in years. I would be furious if someone took a photo of me and uploaded it

I think the DRW and wolf fleece page is just harmless fun.

I wasn't aware of the DRW phenomena until last year. My kids and I wore our robes to a cold and rainy community event. A rather short chap walked up to me, and in front of my kids called me a DRW. He then walked off sniggering to himself.
I joined the DRW fb page to see if he had taken a photo of me/us, but he hadn't.
I've no issue with people being part of this puerile group. But it's a step too far walking up to women/kids and calling them names. There were plenty of men wearing dry robes at the event, he wasn't brave enough to say anything to them.

What you experienced is a reason why these type of FB groups are potentially harmful (not just a bit of fun). Something that started online has spilled over into real life and a man actually insulted you, completely unprovoked, in public and in front of your children. Without the FB group making him think it's acceptable to think that way, he probably would never have done that.

Also very interesting (and unsurprising) that he didn't insult any of the men in dry robes.

Maybe theyre dryrobeaphobes?

Ahh a Goldie looking chain fan😂

HangingOver · 07/02/2025 17:02

God I bet I'm on there. Me and my dog have matching ones. We live in Cornwall and the winter storms here are fuckers.

Just had a look- what a boring group. Out of focus shots of people in dry robes taken from the back. At least Lookatmyfuckingredtrousers had a bit of variety and some funny comments.

That reminds me of a man I knew who used to take great delight in deliberately photobombing strangers' snaps while wearing his regular bright red trousers. This was back in the 80s and 90s, so no just taking a bunch of pics on your phone and later deleting the duds. He said it tickled him to think of them getting their pics developed and puzzling over who the fuck that twat in the red trousers was. 😅

VoodooRajin · 07/02/2025 17:06

Mamils have been mocked for years, i suppose this is the same

MysteriousUsername · 07/02/2025 17:07

Do they do a dryrobe with a wolf print? Asking for a friend.

I think they look hideous, so I don't wear one. I'm sure people sometimes think what I wear is hideous though.

Ohplesandbanonos · 07/02/2025 17:08

I unapologetically love my dryrobe. I wear it on rainy school runs and pre and post exercise (field hockey - nowhere near the sea but sometimes very wet and cold!).

I just don't have enough energy to care what other people wear or what other people think of what I wear.

I think it's really sad that other people do!

Bekindmyarse · 07/02/2025 17:09

Not the point of the post? But are they waterproof? I hate swimming but spend enough time outside in the pissing rain that I’d become a DRW if it meant being dry.

Loveumagenta · 07/02/2025 17:09

chelseahealyslips · 07/02/2025 16:42

Not condoning this group at all. I don't even use Facebook because it's always full of shite like that.

But, what I think is because dryrobes have become a thing of "fashun" rather than practicality and what they were designed for (which was cold water swimmers/surfers etc wasn't it) basically it's become "the mum coat" to own. For £160+. Even though the mums wearing them are literally just going to tesco or on the school run in their crocs and birkenstock closed toe mules with socks.

Edited

Ah whatever. How DARE women wear coats of their choosing out Ad about. How fucking dare they! Why don’t you give us a handy list of brand and styles you think are suitable for the school run and we’ll all fall in line…

Clarice99 · 07/02/2025 17:12

Loveumagenta · 07/02/2025 16:16

‘Quite.
There was a trend of men taking and sharing photos to shame women for eating in public.

yea, was about to say that!
Tiny little angry men, they’re everywhere.

Tiny angry men, with tiny lives and tiny dicks 😁

I don't own a dryrobe, I live inland, and don't have a dog (dog walking) or any other reason to own one, but I can see the practicalities of the garment. Not all clothing has to be flattering, or pleasing to the eye of real life wankers i.e. men.

Taking photos, mainly of women and children, and spouting venom about their choice of clothing is sinister.

TheHeadOfTheHouse · 07/02/2025 17:13

It is a mean group, it put me off wearing mine that I felt a tit in public with it on. I only wore it 5 times and then sold it.

its not very practical for out and about I found as the arms were too short, no toggles on the hood, no cuffs on the wrists and it was tent like.

i was a size 20 and wearing a small and it was massive on me. It was too restricting to drive in, water went up my arm when it was raining as I had to hold the hood on my head and there was massive gaps in the arms at the wrists.

bringmorewashing · 07/02/2025 17:15

The group sounds mean and dumb.

The dryrobe sounds great and I think I need one. I do live near a beach! (although abroad, so maybe that's why I've never seen them)

WestwardHo1 · 07/02/2025 17:15

Stepfordian · 07/02/2025 16:38

Well considering the cost of them I’m surprised people wear them when they’re not strictly necessary!

There are loads of people, especially on MN, who would pay much more than the cost of a dry robe for a warm, waterproof coat!

Personally I have a Robie Robe - just as nice, slightly cheaper price.

As for the page I think some posters are overthinking it a bit. It doesn't seem bitter and angry to be - seems like people of both sexes who have got a bit carried away by an idea and are overestimating how funny something is.

Does make me laugh a little in Cornwall though - there are obviously plenty of people who live here who own dry robes. Lots of surfers, SUPers, kiteboarders and sea swimmers etc year round. But the number of dry robes (other brands are available) does increase exponentially during the summer season.

CareerChange24 · 07/02/2025 17:16

They are waterproof, despite people saying on this page they aren’t. I was in the dentist and my dentist was the one who said I wear one and about this site. I’m mid 30’s, but I’m not on Facebook. But looked out of curiosity. So no. I had no idea what a wolf fleece was. No idea that it was legal to post photos of lone women and children and upload and mock. One woman was walking in a shopping centre and grown men were commenting she looks like she’s on the hunt for cake, wtf?

When I was younger. Never did I think I’d be someone wearing a tent. But yes, I wear socks over leggings. Hoka trainers as I’m bouncing around Sainsbury’s. And I’m so comfy and warm. I don’t give a shit. Just taken mine to Scotland and everyone was complaining how cold they were…didn’t feel a drop of it! Heaven.

They are massive because they were originally intended as something to change under in a cold wind, not to wear as a normal coat. You need a bit of wriggle room to remove a wet wetsuit.

VoodooRajin · 07/02/2025 17:17

I thought it was to do with the middle class thing

cheezmonster · 07/02/2025 17:18

Just feel sorry for those who pass their time this way, honestly.

CareerChange24 · 07/02/2025 17:18

And also I do have a sense of humour. I wore mine also down the mine at the national coal mining museum and the man doing the tour was laughing I could camp down there for the night and the camo print was glowing in the dark. I told him I own a white one aswell. It’s the misogyny and nastiness of the site I was shocked by

Yes, I have labradors, so I'm out in all weathers and I always come back dry.

Lozzq · 07/02/2025 17:25

Eugghh DRWs are the worst, of all the henious crimes to commit, wearing a dry robe has got to be up there, and don’t get me started on the cammo ones! There should be fines for crimes against fashion for these awful things. Agree with the no pictures, my eyes have been violated once, why would anyone want to re live the memory.

PeterPipper · 07/02/2025 17:26

I must be a DDRW. The extra D at the beginning stands for disabled. I wear one when riding my mobility scooter in the rain. It keeps my knees dry, whereas a normal coat would just ride up.

Tattletwat · 07/02/2025 17:28

I remember the Full Kit wanker page where people would post pictures of grown men out and about in full football kits.

Can't get myself would up about this.

Me too, it’s also illegal to distribute or take photos of people in vulnerable situations…
