First we get that alarm, now Tesco is closed tomorrow. It's the end, isn't it?

Back in the day, we didn't have advance notice of severe weather events the way we do now, and we didn't have time to prepare. It's fucking progress that now we do have the technology to predict these events!

Does anyone remember 1987, when Michael Fish confidently told us on BBC Weather that there wasn't going to be a storm, and there was one bastard of a storm, particularly in the south/south-east as I remember?! It was bad in London because I was living and working there the following year, and when there was a severe storm forecasted, we all got sent home from work in case it happened again!

I remember a storm from when I was 4/5 - it tore the roof of our outhousing damaging my dad's car. I still remember him moving it out to the front of the house. There was a red telephone box at the end of our drive, and the doors of those things were so fucking heavy - yet the wind was strong enough to blow it off!

I hope and pray that this storm will be less severe than predicted, but I would rather be prepared than not.

Everyone misquotes this story. There was more to it but the truth doesn't fit the narrative of picking on him.

Hi, NI resident here. Our house is surrounded by trees. We were woken at 5am by a massive crash - it turned out a huge tree in the neighbour's garden had fallen on our roof. We all got dressed and spent much of the day sitting tight in the kitchen - the only place we were sure was out of range of falling trees. Two more trees on the other side were uprooted and fell on a different neighbour's garage roof and crushed his caravan. While he was in our kitchen telling us what had happened, another huge tree came down and just missed the kitchen window. Luckily the tree surgeon came pretty quickly and sorted the tree on the roof. We've been lucky- the corner of the roof has been smashed up but it could have been much worse. Never seen anything as bad as this.

Everyone stocking up on loo roll for a one-day event - so funny! When Covid happened, it was everyone's instinct to buy all the loo roll in sight even though it was a lung disease! 😂

I mean, who thinks "Oh I might get a lung infection - I KNOW, I'LL BUY ALL THE LOO ROLL AND THAT WILL PROTECT ME!"

It's like hearing that you need your gallbladder out so you go and stockpile bags of throat lozenges. IT MAKES NO SENSE! 😂

Especially since loo roll isn't a great way to clean yourself anyway. Bidets are better, like much of the rest of the world uses. If you run out of loo roll, you just use a water bottle or a jug in extremis.

But no, we must all secure our security, hygiene, and safety by battling all threats from behind a homemade castle of loo roll! 😂😂😂

Edited

What makes no sense is that some people didn't get the point why people bought plenty.

If you had Covid you couldn't go out....no one knew how long they'd be stuck in for.

Shit, that's awful. Sorry to hear Our neighbour's tree went down in much the same way, but fell into the road rather than on their property.

Well maybe you think it's funny but for some of us with bowel diseases, it's pretty fucking vital. And bidets aren't much of a thing in this country.

Even if I didn't have a bowel condition, it's pretty grim to not have access to toilet paper!

Plus don't you realise, there's going to be shortages for a couple of days as there's been no deliveries today.

So maybe those people weren't as hilarious as you think, and were displaying foresight?!
