First we get that alarm, now Tesco is closed tomorrow. It's the end, isn't it?

Everyone stocking up on loo roll for a one-day event - so funny! When Covid happened, it was everyone's instinct to buy all the loo roll in sight even though it was a lung disease! 😂

I mean, who thinks "Oh I might get a lung infection - I KNOW, I'LL BUY ALL THE LOO ROLL AND THAT WILL PROTECT ME!"

It's like hearing that you need your gallbladder out so you go and stockpile bags of throat lozenges. IT MAKES NO SENSE! 😂

Especially since loo roll isn't a great way to clean yourself anyway. Bidets are better, like much of the rest of the world uses. If you run out of loo roll, you just use a water bottle or a jug in extremis.

But no, we must all secure our security, hygiene, and safety by battling all threats from behind a homemade castle of loo roll! 😂😂😂

Edited

I don’t know about you but Covid does something awful to my stomach so extra loo roll is essential.

PeriPeriMam · 24/01/2025 05:30

Actually, the storm is here and we have VERY LITTLE LOO ROLL 😨 This is terrible. I need to brush up on my hoarding skillz

HollyKnight · 24/01/2025 05:35

I'm up to do an old lady pee. It's sounding a bit blowy out there. 😳 Someone's back gate is going to take off by the sounds of its fight for freedom.

I don't think it is the end just yet.
I have checked the Book of Revelation and it's the arrival of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse one should be looking out for. There is no mention that the sudden closure of Tescos is an omen.
Phew, that's a relief!

BitOutOfPractice · 24/01/2025 06:39

A piece of metal from a building flew off in high winds about three years back in Ireland and hit me in the face. I have the scar to prove it and I’m still nervous in high winds

so yeah, Im not so glib!

Elasticatedtrousers · 24/01/2025 06:41

It's not the end of days down here yet, Tesco open and I didn't have an alert?

You're not in the red zone then

dementedpixie · 24/01/2025 06:52

Its sounding gusty already. Don't like the wind, it makes me feel unsettled

Flamingoknees · 24/01/2025 06:54

North East - Tesco open, no alarm, raining and some windy gusts. Not bad at the moment. My phone says it will be windier later.

dementedpixie · 24/01/2025 06:55

According to the tracker my area will get up to 89mph gusts today

Yes death is inevitable

Yup one the very few things I can give you a 100% guarantee on.

Stormwhatnow · 24/01/2025 06:59

It's really picked up in the last hour here on the east coast. I have to go to work in an hour, not far, 5 min drive. I'd rather not though!

I'd love to know where these people are planning to store so much milk if they lose power.

For me it was 1 pint to get coffee this morning.

LowlandLassie · 24/01/2025 07:17

SW Scotland - the red warning doesn’t start for a few hours yet but it is wild already.

BashfulClam · 24/01/2025 07:18

HollyKnight · 23/01/2025 23:22

I wish they'd sent the alert earlier than 17:30 because that was a bit too late for doomsday prepping.

I don't remember the 1998 storm for some reason.

I do. We went to a local night club and power died even streetlights. It was pitch black outside, the police had emergency lights at the taxi rank. Our power was out for a few days, made breakfast on a camping stove the next day. I can hear the rind getting up now. Good luck everyone hope no one suffers any damage.

I bet it's like that ridiculous hurricane that was meant to destroy the US recently. Media whip-up and fuck all to it.

if you are talking about hurricane Milton, I was there during that hurricane, yes it wasn’t nearly as bad as they predicted but I’m sure the people who lost their homes and had severe damage from both the hurricane and the tornados are not saying there was fuck all to it.

You sound like a conspiracy theorist. It's a severe weather warning.

Tesco are considering the safety of their staff, schools the safety of children and staff and rail and bus the safety of all users. Makes sense.

JaneOfGaunt · 24/01/2025 07:40

Edinburgh here. Quite blowy at the moment but not much more so far. We’re in the amber warning period now - red due to start at 10. Buses still running and the streets are fairly busy, but I guess that will all stop before we move into the red phase. I think they’re planning to have all the buses back in the depot by 9.

Yeah … I think OP was being tongue in cheek. I don’t think anyone actually thinks we’re all going to die - just that it’s quite dramatic and tescos closing is quite a big deal.

Darling it's only Tesco, Waitrose, Fortnum's and Harrods ae all open.

turul · 24/01/2025 07:48

Are we all sure that we will still get the high winds? In the midlands my area forecast is only for wind F4 gusts to Force 6.
Much of Wales the forecast is reduced compared to yesterday.

malificent7 · 24/01/2025 07:49

Well eventually yes.

West coast, it’s hitting but it’s not really bad yet.

The factories in china that supplied a lot of the raw materials had closed and also if you had to isolate for 2 weeks you’d need a stash lol. I luckily had bought soap and a massive pack of loo roll just before it all kicked off. I tend to buy the 9 pack and it lasts a while between 2. Less time now that we are wfh more often.
