My whole family forgot my birthday

Oopsadaisy92 · 22/01/2025 14:31

Kind of light hearted but my brother, my parents and most importantly my DH have all forgotten to wish me happy birthday today. At time of writing it's 14.30.

Just to confirm my birthday is on the 22nd of January... I haven't got my dates mixed up and it's like the 21st today or something??

Also - any ideas on being petty? I feeling like letting them all know at this point needs something big so it doesn't look desperate for attention 🤣

Did you mention it was coming up? No excuse for DP not knowing though, poor form.

Her mother literally birthed her so you’d think she’d remember!

Did you actually bother to read any of the thread?

I never quite understand the birthday posts on MN.
Have you asked for any presents? Mentioned going out for a meal or doing something special for dinner?
If the answer is no and you were just waiting to see whether or not they remembered, then I feel you are partly to blame.

You'd expect happy birthday messages at least?!

Single50something · 23/01/2025 18:16

Happy birthday 🥂 🎂 🥳 🎉

Why do you think that OPs parents and DH, DC don’t think she has a birthday?

She has confirmed she mentioned it, but she really shouldn’t have too! X

oldmoaner · 23/01/2025 18:25

I'd buy them diarys and calendars for next Christmas and write my birthday in all of them. How can parents forget your birthday, husbands do,quite often.

Ladysmirnoff1 · 23/01/2025 18:28

I'd go out shopping and then go to a hotel for the night. Smuggle in a bottle of vodka, cakes and chocolates (their calorie free on your birthday. Go back the day after and say nothing about your birthday.

No husbands don’t!

I don’t know of a single friend or family that’s DH has ever forgotten their birthdays.

Oh sorry, I didn't realise you were the OP 😂

That seems a bit harsh. Assuming the OP isn’t in a NC/LC type relationship with her family and DH I think it’s a fairly normal expectation for them to at least wish her a happy birthday!

And a birthday card surely?

Oopsadaisy92 · 23/01/2025 16:47

Indeed not!

I'm sorry they all forgot your birthday and your parents forgetting your 18th. All of my family forgot my 21st, it's pretty depressing. I've never had anyone do something special for me on my birthday which does make me feel a bit sad.

tommyhoundmum · 23/01/2025 18:47

You should have taken yourself out for a slapup supper

MaroonedinWales · 23/01/2025 19:27

This has happened to me before and I didn't say a thing. It was only a few days later my wife remembered and was a little embarassed. I've always thought it odd to celebrate the Earth's circumnavigation of the Sun so it genuinely never bothered me.

Go buy yourself a birthday cake, light some candles and sing to yourself.

That should be a big enough hint

Ohhh I like this one

Ellepff · 23/01/2025 19:41

VickyEadieofThigh · 22/01/2025 14:39

I always think that doing this - pretending to forget and then having a "surprise" later - is really mean. It can actually spoil a person's day.

one year my husband had work meetings from 7am to 9pm on my birthday. He didn’t say happy birthday before he left, but brought cupcakes after. The morning happy birthday would have been MUCH more important

Excellent 👌!

Medal 🥇 for you.

meanwhile back in the real world, OP is bothered

But that doesn't mean that her family shouldn't have phoned or texted her a Happy Birthday, or sent a card. Not having anything on your birthday is quite depressing.

stampin · 23/01/2025 21:09

Did you get a bouquet delivered today OP?

You know, the one that you put out of site because it's a painful reminder.

WorkItUpYourBangle · 23/01/2025 21:23

DivergentTris · 22/01/2025 14:37

If they haven't mentioned it by the end of the day, then yanbu. Is there any chance they have stuff on today and are waiting to get in to call you up/surprise you or something? There is still time.

Don't be ridiculous. No one should have to remind their family it's their birthday.

Trixiefirecracker · 23/01/2025 22:54

Apparently Bono wrote the Sweetest Thing as an apology to his wife for forgetting her birthday. The video is basically him just saying sorry in a million different ways. Maybe you need a similar grand gesture? 😉

Is this some attempt at outing her?
