My whole family forgot my birthday

Oopsadaisy92 · 22/01/2025 14:31

Kind of light hearted but my brother, my parents and most importantly my DH have all forgotten to wish me happy birthday today. At time of writing it's 14.30.

Just to confirm my birthday is on the 22nd of January... I haven't got my dates mixed up and it's like the 21st today or something??

Also - any ideas on being petty? I feeling like letting them all know at this point needs something big so it doesn't look desperate for attention 🤣

How charming that people would think to worry the OP about her marriage ON HER BIRTHDAY! We all have thoughtless twits in our life and this doesn’t have to be indicative of the decline of everything - it’s crap, not fair and there will need to be amends, but she doesn’t need to be dashing to a solicitor! She can’t anyway as hopefully she is on her third cocktail of the evening - cheers OP.

ChessorBuckaroo · 22/01/2025 19:33

Aww happy birthday OP. 🎂

We share the same birthday!

Squiggymoms · 22/01/2025 19:33

Happy birthday 🎂 you deserve better 😘

Notimeforaname · 22/01/2025 19:41

Happy Birthday op!!

SoMuchBadAdvice · 22/01/2025 19:42

I wished OP happy birthday & she didn't acknowledge. Should I be upset?

Differentstarts · 22/01/2025 19:42

Happy birthday op but I would use this in your favour hes going to owe you big for this fuck up. Maybe spend the night online shopping of what you want as your birthday/sorry present. Whatever he normally spends double it.

😅 To be fair she’s hopefully at the bar or filling up on a good dinner, she’ll say thanks when she’s back I’m sure.

AndThereSheGoes · 22/01/2025 19:45

Nah it's rude. I'd be massively fucked off with the lot of them.

Yes absolutely

Rubix89 · 22/01/2025 19:51

Whaaaat? Surely it’s not unreasonable to think your parents and spouse would remember your birthday?

Excellent suggestion. My boss said to me "if you do something really well & no one acknowledges it - you need to reward yourself". Twat! But OP should go out on the pull.

I never quite understand the birthday posts on MN.
Have you asked for any presents? Mentioned going out for a meal or doing something special for dinner?
If the answer is no and you were just waiting to see whether or not they remembered, then I feel you are partly to blame.

It's one thing to be upset if your husband books an Italian and you fancied a curry. In that example, the person should say what they want. It's quite something else not to expect the special people in your life not to remember your birthday without being reminded! That's just having very very very low standards. Surely her mum should remember at least.

OP I am sorry this happened. Hopefully your day got better. I would be so very hurt by this too.

Oopsadaisy92 · 22/01/2025 16:21

I did. I've been talking about it with them for the past could of weeks and spoke to DH yesterday

Then that is just weird and useless of him.

EdithBond · 22/01/2025 20:28

Happy Birthday @Oopsadaisy92 !

I wouldn’t be petty. I’d be direct, with humour: “You thoughtless bastards! Not a single one of you wished me happy birthday. The (belated) gifts better make up for it”.

You shouldn’t have to have mentioned presents or going for a meal for your own parents and partner to remember your birthday! It’s the bare minimum. The sibling wouldn’t bother me but I would be very hurt if my parents and partner forgot my birthday. I’m sorry OP, that’s really crap of them.

I wouldn’t even mention it today. I would see if they actually cottoned on and if not make sure you mention it tomorrow.

Breathinginthenewyear · 22/01/2025 20:42

You're doing really well to keep this ro yourself. I forgot dh birthday once and he had to blurt it out by 7.30am.

This would be me

Easipeelerie · 22/01/2025 20:48

It’s not the end of the world your family forgot, You’re an adult so it won’t be on their radar like it used to be.
Bit rubbish that your DH has forgotten tho. Seriously, that’s not good enough.

Parentalalienation · 22/01/2025 20:48

Tofunoo · 22/01/2025 14:38

That seems a bit harsh. Assuming the OP isn’t in a NC/LC type relationship with her family and DH I think it’s a fairly normal expectation for them to at least wish her a happy birthday!

It's awful behaviour if they've forgotten.
I'm NC with some family of origin, low contact with others and still get a birthday card through the post each year.
Happy birthday @Oopsadaisy92 hope you've been able to do something nice for you.

Maurepas · 22/01/2025 20:52

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Don't let the bastards get you down!

MoodySky · 22/01/2025 20:55

How about a Facebook post thanking everyone for the good wishes and cards? 😂

Happy Birthday OP, I hope you e managed to have a lovely day regardless

MrsRonaldWeasley · 22/01/2025 21:09

Happy Birthday @Oopsadaisy92 🎂

Has anyone remembered yet?

screamtoabloodysigh · 22/01/2025 21:14

I entered dh's birthday wrong on the calendar this year. In my defence, it's the day before my granddad's.or the day after, I never quite get it straight. Although my granddad's been dead longer than I've been married.

We've been married 20 years.

It's not his birthday for months yet, but he's already miffed.

CoolPlayer · 22/01/2025 21:20

Happy birthday x
