Step son used my bath towel

1000 replies

Green0911 · 19/01/2025 01:31

Want to gauge if IABU here.

My and my husband's towels are in the bathroom. Teenage SS keeps his in his room. We each have a hand towel and a bath towel. They all get changed every 3-4 days. When it came to changing them, I realised SS didn't have his towels in his room. He said he'd put them to be laundered a few days before. When I asked him which towels he'd been using in the meantime (he'd showered at least twice during this period), initially he claimed none, then admitted he'd used mine.

I blew a fuse. Couldn't believe he thought this was acceptable. Husband has laughed it off and is accusing me of being dramatic/blowing things out of proportion.

AIBU?

I've never blown a fuse, have you??

it sounds out of control to me.

Google seems to lead towards bipolar, but you may know better? Doubtfully

Not claiming to know better, but I think bipolar's a reach.

Why do people describe themselves as 'card-carrying feminists'? Is it supposed to make everyone else think they must be right and we must be wrong?

A bit like “violation”

Are you quite well? Your blood pressure over the past 12 hours on this thread must be through the roof.

Teenagers are still children. They need to learn. They do not need to learn by someone blowing a fuse. Maybe time to take a break? Haven’t you got to phone Sheridan?

Phone Sheridan 😁
He'll only be after money again if she calls, best to go sing at the poor neighbour instead 😂

Ha ha - I have 3 boys and 4 bathrooms - all the towels in the house move around and then every few days all get washed and restocked! I tend to give a towel a quick smell check and if still smells fresh use that one! Would it bother you as much if he was your biological son?

4 bathrooms!
I hate cleaning just one

I'm struggling to see what feminism has to do with a thread where the OP is complaining that her step son used her towel. 🤔

Ha ha it’s horrific! All the boys all have a favourite “Pooh” toilet so it’s just constant cleaning! Tried getting them to pooh in main toilet but nooooo our en suite and the spare room ensuite are preferable!

crumblingschools · 19/01/2025 10:39

As you are not meant to leave the house or sleep whilst washing machine and tumble drier are on, that is the time people are thinking about, not the actual time of putting items in the machines

Multi-tasking isn't hard? Put it on when you happen to be home and are doing something else. I think most of us would be home an hour a day at least.

Thisismetooaswell · 19/01/2025 13:45

What????? What an incredible waste of water and electricity

You're not paying for it, so who cares?

Dillydollydingdong · 19/01/2025 19:59

The thing with towels is that you use them AFTER you've washed, not before. So if you used them after he did, you didn't notice because they weren't dirty and didn't smell! Stop being silly.

crumblingschools · 19/01/2025 20:01

@PreferMyAnimals we are all paying for it in effect

JMSA · 19/01/2025 20:03

You overreacted completely. Simply ask him not to do it again.

Mum2jenny · 19/01/2025 20:04

All this thread has shown is that some ppl (me) are v precious about their towels. Others don’t care.
Each to their own imo, unless you visit me!!!

I don't agree that my one towel a day is an issue. More than offset by other things I do. I seriously doubt anyone here can say they don't hurt the environment somehow, probably in ways far worse than using a fresh towel a day, yet they will jump on that because it's not their own quirk.

But if you didn’t use a towel a day you’d help the environment even more.

mollymazda · 19/01/2025 20:07

oh i hear you.... our adult SS stayed over christmas, and while i was at work, he was told to get in the shower by his dad. Our ensuite has the only shower, so he was sent in there.

he used my bath scrunchie.. my shampoo, condition, body wash... i can only assume he didn't need to use my face wash but you never know.

it's given me the ick every since! it makes me feel sick.. i had to discard it all, and some of it wasn't cheap!

but no... just no!

Prepared to give up all your little quirks? I bet you have a few habits I think are bad. Do you drink? Smoke? Wear synthetics? Drive your kids to school instead of walking? Used packaged food in plastic? Use plastic containers? Use non-environmentally cleaners? To name a few. Because I don't do any of those.

Growlybear83 · 19/01/2025 20:08

You threw your shampoo away because someone else has used it? Do you think he contaminated a plastic bottle?

I don’t do most of those either. But I can’t get away from plastic. I never buy mineral water or takeaway coffees but I can’t help a lot of the supermarket packaging.

I know none of us are perfect.

But dropping the towel a day is such an easy win.
