Cinema Screening for Dogs

Pieceofpurplesky · 12/01/2025 23:20

My local cinema is having cinema screenings where you can take your dog along. So far they have had Wallace and Gromit and The Lion King.

AIBU or has the world gone mad?

I actually love this idea. If it's clearly billed as a dog screening then those who doesn't want to go or be near them can pick another showing.

Some people don't like leaving their dogs for hours. So this may be a way.

Enko · 12/01/2025 23:24

Btw as this is MN i know my voice will be a lonely one as on here we are supposed to hate dogs.

Pieceofpurplesky · 12/01/2025 23:25

Oh I love dogs. It's just - the cinema - and dog friendly films?

Also DS wouldn't be able to go in that cinema without having an allergy attack even a week after the showing! I am sure he's not alone

🤔🍿🍪🐕💩😂

MathsMagpie · 12/01/2025 23:32

I suppose as long as it's cleaned thoroughly and advertised for allergies..etc it could work in theory.

Kibble29 · 12/01/2025 23:32

I don’t mind dogs at all, but this seems like a bit of a gimmick targeted at people who think dogs are the best things on earth.

I’ve never asked one directly but I think our furry pals would be far happier running about in a park or on a beach with their tongue hanging out rather than sitting in the dark for 2 hours watching 101 Dalmatian's.

Enko · 12/01/2025 23:33

@Kibble29. Actually d dog likes 101 Dalmations but his favourite is SnowDogs....

Exactly - I love dogs, and I love the cinema, but my dog wouldn’t love the cinema. He’d be bored and frustrated.

Just don’t show him Marley & Me…

Hoolihan · 12/01/2025 23:37

Honestly so ridiculous. Our local Picturehouse only has one screen and on CHRISTMAS EVE had chosen to show a dog friendly screening of It's A Wonderful Life. Wtaf.

I'm saving that for when he is older 😀

PiggyPigalle · 12/01/2025 23:40

As I've spent the last three days without the television on, as the dog I'm sitting reacts to it. No, he definitely won't be going to the cinema.

BirthdeighParteigh · 12/01/2025 23:40

I don’t see why it’s that weird. My cat watches David Attenborough documentaries on Netflix.

creamsnugjumper · 12/01/2025 23:41

Great for allergies. Who makes this stuff up!!

UrsulasHerbBag · 12/01/2025 23:42

Why would dogs want to be in a dark loud unfamiliar room with loads of other dogs and no where to pee for 2 hours? Dogs are not people and it isn’t always in their best interest to treat them like humans.

vodkaredbullgirl · 12/01/2025 23:43

Both my labs like watching nature programmes and films with animals in them.

Pieceofpurplesky · 12/01/2025 23:49

My ddd (dear departed dog) would have ruined it for all the other dogs with his noisy eating!

Oh my goodness ! my dogs do not want to go and watch a film !!!

and my male dog may decide to cock his fucking back leg up at a seat !

then there would be the barking in excitement at the other dogs
and the barking in fear at big black dogs !!!

Pieceofpurplesky · 12/01/2025 23:51

Just to add that someone on the page this is on has added that they booked so that their dog got a good seat.

There’s a beautiful independent cinema where we go on holiday that always allow dogs downstairs. The upstairs is kept dog free.

It’s great for rainy days as we can’t leave the dogs like we would at home so we take their blankets and they snooze.

They also do cheese platters, nachos and other great snacks and drinks so it is a fantastic outing all round!

YeOldeGreyhound · 12/01/2025 23:58

Dog screenings are far and few between. I don't think it is a bad idea to let dogs experience things like this. It gets them used to various environments.

Of course, no one is forcing you to go. It takes nothing away from you for these screenings to exist at all.

Biffsboys · 12/01/2025 23:58

I have a dog which I adore , however there are places that just should not be dog friendly and a cinema is one of them …

MerryMaker · 12/01/2025 23:59

That is cute. I would happily have taken our old dog if he was still alive. Trust me, he was happier curling up in the warmth than being in a cold park.

VivienneDelacroix · 13/01/2025 00:06

Dogs get nothing from going to the cinema. Those saying their pet watches TV, that's completely different in their own comfortable home - but also really sad when you think about it - we've successfully managed to turn our own species away from outdoor experiential activities and towards a virtual screen-based world and now it's happening to animals too.
I've seen people skulk away after their dog has wee'ed in Pets at Home, when they're sitting in the dark I imagine even more people will leave without saying anything if their dog decides to answer nature's call on the back of a seat.
As others have said, people with allergies will be affected at later screenings - they don't scrub down the cinema between screenings and on a rainy day imagine the smell. All doggy homes smell of dog -a cinema full of dogs will reek for days - especially as they'll all be excreting doggy hormones in a room full of other dogs.

Stop this silliness.
