To think I’m not doing anything wrong

Back to work on Monday after a lovely 2 weeks off! I’m currently reading a book (well I was before I came on here) with a glass of wine and left over Pringles from Christmas.

DH was out doing his hobby and he’s just come back home and asked me why I was drinking. I said I’m having a glass of wine, not exactly having shots rolling around everywhere. He said that I shouldn’t be drinking while looking after DC and that drinking alone in the house when it’s not Christmas anymore is “weird” DC1 is upstairs in their room and DC2 is sat on the floor playing.

AIBU?

”Yes, I can babysit on Thursday. Going anywhere nice?”

”No. I’ll be sat on the other sofa having a glass of wine. I just need you there in the unlikely event that one of the children explodes. I am incapable of calling an uber, you see.”

😂😂😂😂

Me and DH had a glass of Bailey’s each the other night while playing monopoly with our DS! Should’ve called a babysitter!

And have one more monopoly opponent? I don’t think so!

Lads, if your children are terrified after you have one glass of wine, the problem isn't the wine. Its you. You're the problem.

TooBored1 · 04/01/2025 23:55

Barrenfieldoffucks · 04/01/2025 15:23

By that token, are you implying that all those who don't drive or don't have cars are somehow neglectful?

Or that only one parent can drink at a time?

Viserrisk · 05/01/2025 09:13

Hi I made it through the night without the need to take DC to hospital. Funnily enough they are fine despite me spending half an hour finishing my “silly book” 😲

Thanks to some of you for the laughs🤝

PHEW!

Just remember to book a baby sitter the next time you even so much as sniff a liquor truffle in the presence of your children, which remember, as you had a glass of wine yesterday, shouldn’t be until April 2027, or you most definitely are a problem drinker.

And no more reading, eh? You must give your children you full, undivided attention at all times, even when they are begging you to piss off and let them play.

Thank the Lord for that! Heavens above, wine and reading, has no one called Social Services? Will no one think of the children

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/01/2025 09:58

Well done. Glad you all survived. Hope dp has stopped being a stupid guy too.

Not to play Monopoly. To give the children undivided attention while the neglectful parents play a game and have a sip of alcohol!

VegTrug · 05/01/2025 11:55

@Barrenfieldoffucks Well, yes in a way. Why would anyone bring children into the world when they can’t even drive them to hospital if needed?

I think it also needs to be pointed out that if a parent need to take painkillers for any reason, they should be thinking of the children first and should push through the pain instead !! 😂

Because taxis exist

So by extension anyone who can’t afford a car, or to learn to drive, or those who can’t drive by reason of a health condition or disability shouldn’t have children. MN is fucking ridiculous sometimes !!

JMSA · 05/01/2025 12:07

Chowtime · 04/01/2025 15:17

Yes YABU - what if one of your children needed to be taken to hospital and you were over the limit to drive?

Jesus, I'm not even a drinker, but even I can see that you can't live your life like that! It's neurotic.

A friend of mine has epilepsy. She can’t drive but has had children. Should she have never had any? 🤔

I feel awful now, but I had a couple of small glasses of rum while playing a game with my son. We were also eating grapes that hadn’t been cut up, which I now know thanks to MN, is practically the same as holding him down and strangling him with my bare hands because of the choking hazard.
Worst of all… I don’t know if I can actually admit this….we were BOTH sitting on the floor. There were no other adults in the house at the time.

The shame!!

I really don’t know how he’s got to the ripe old age of 27…

I would never have a child if I couldn't drive it to hospital.

You’re not doing anything wrong but it’s not something I would personally do. I grew up around heavy drinkers though and I think it’s made me averse to it. Maybe your DH has experienced similar ? Because of this I’d never risk drinking on my own especially in front of my kids but it’s easy because I actually would rather have a cup of tea. Enjoy the rest of your time off OP
