Comment on Facebook by Office Manager

I was in a job a few years ago and there was an issue with the heating. It gets really hot in the office, 26 degrees in winter which is really drying and I was going home with head aches. Raised this with managers who didn't do anything and than health and safety guy. I should be this ill from working in an office.

He said he would follow it up and agreed it was hot. The operations manager contacted the office manager to see how the temp was in the office - to which it was said I was wearing a coat (there are two people with the same name in the office but she shortens her name). The director of HR was CC and anyway I got a job with a £5k pay increase a few weeks later as it got way out of hand.

Anyway I was surfing Facebook and the office manager has made a comment about it on her facebook and tagged my manager and the person who sits next to me. The comment was brief along the lines of "what do I have to deal with".

Aibu in thinking that's not right?

@ByOliveWriter it seems a bit late to be annoyed if you only just saw it and this happened a while ago, however, if you are certain that it’s a dig at you, why not comment “I hope this is not a dig at me” (you can @ mention the person who commented so they will see it). However, it could just be a coincidence.

GrapefruitFrog · 27/12/2024 20:28

No, wait I’ve cracked it. This was never about temperature. It’s the office TEMP, as in, a freelance cover. That’s why someone needed a day to catch up. The temp was too hot and they couldn’t get any work done because of the distracting good looks. Then the temp had to put a coat on because he was self conscious.

Like a Diet Coke break?

I like your version.

That's right. Feed the madness.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 27/12/2024 20:30

.................but hey that doesn't fit with the narrative of people writing shitty things on Facebook and getting caught

Getting caught?
Have the Facebook police been informed?
Is an arrest imminent?

2025Y · 27/12/2024 20:32

It's all the drama Mick. I love it!

In all seriousness OP I do think you may have got the wrong end of the stick. It was probably some other thing at work that the manager/coatwearer/colleague/hedgehog was posting about.

getthosetitsup · 27/12/2024 20:34

HornyHornersPinger · 27/12/2024 20:19

She probably did it for your benefit knowing you're the type of person to look on people's Facebook.
I post things on my Facebook and put them as public for effect. For example, when my noisy nutty neighbour moved I publicly posted "Thank God that psycho bitch moved".
Given that you've seen this year's down the line and it's bugging you, I'd say the manager has you down to a tee.

Are you suggesting the manager-I-think was thinking revenge is a dish best served cold, Horny?

AnnoyedAsAllHeck · 27/12/2024 20:34

I used to think the Abbott and Costello "Who's on first" routine was the most confusing thing I had read.

I now stand corrected, as it has moved into second place. 😲😳🤔😬

EmmaSmiff · 27/12/2024 20:34

I haven’t RTFT, but

a) Has anyone suggested something quite radical, like not giving a shit?
b) Are you on the sherry?
c) I’ve got Bob Geldof on the blower, he wants to do a concert to raise awareness but he is currently fighting with
d) Andrew Lloyd Webber who is penning a musical about #TemperatureGate.

In any case, YABU.

So cold she'd need to put her coat on, perhaps

This was a few years ago and you no longer work there? Who gives a shit!

That's what I was thinking!

Steady on Emma, it was the ‘suggesting not giving a shit’ that got us accused of gatekeeping what OP was allowed to care about in the first place!

Missmarplesknittingbuddy · 27/12/2024 20:36

Hopefully the OP has stepped away from the thread before we need to start crowdfunding for @hagtimes gin shots .

VerityUnreasonble · 27/12/2024 20:37

WTF Xmas Hmm

getthosetitsup · 27/12/2024 20:38

Butchyrestingface · 27/12/2024 20:21

I tried to change my username to ButchyGatekeepingFace but a message says I must keep to the same username throughout the thread. I did not know this.

Woe. Woe. Thrice woe. 😭

Ah this explains why I am stubbornly still known as "greta" in certain circles then.

She can't. The facebook post was 3 years ago. OP would sound el nutso and cause people to shrink slowly away from her.

getthosetitsup · 27/12/2024 20:40

PumpkinSoup21 · 27/12/2024 20:23

Gatekeeping.
All jokes aside it means keeping to yourself some knowledge or information that could benefit others. Or controlling access to something. It doesn’t mean criticising or disagreeing. It’s also distinct from censoring. Gatekeeping in this circumstance would be not allowing you access to Mumsnet or keeping from you the information that Mumsnet exists.

Unless you are Zuul of course.

  • May be showing my age there.

I think that ship may have sailed for OP already

Ohnobackagain · 27/12/2024 20:41

@Butchyrestingface the OP seems to want to find out/make a point and there aren’t many ways to do that if she feels unable to let it go. I’m not suggesting it is right and it certainly isn’t what I would do - just one option.

You're not.
I've had the image of Sigourney Weaver atop a skyscraper on reading 'gatekeeping' for the 10th time...

Lifestooshort71 · 27/12/2024 20:42

Am I the only one who feels sorry for the woman in the coat (who may or may not have the same name as the OP) who has been vilified for 3 years for complaining about the heat while wrapped up in her coat? Or have I misunderstood that bit...

Oh, wow. Zuul could certainly show OP a thing or two about gatekeeping!

ByOliveWriter · 27/12/2024 18:59

No on the day she posted it and tagged my manager and mutual work friend (who I sit next to)

Your post is totally incoherent. You don't tell us what was said on Facebook that makes it perfectly clear it was about you reporting the heat in the office and saying something offensive. If your complaint to the office was as clear as your communication on here then maybe I can understand why it's gone a awry. But not why it's come again for you now three years later?
