I was in a job a few years ago and there was an issue with the heating. It gets really hot in the office, 26 degrees in winter which is really drying and I was going home with head aches. Raised this with managers who didn't do anything and than health and safety guy. I should be this ill from working in an office.

He said he would follow it up and agreed it was hot. The operations manager contacted the office manager to see how the temp was in the office - to which it was said I was wearing a coat (there are two people with the same name in the office but she shortens her name). The director of HR was CC and anyway I got a job with a £5k pay increase a few weeks later as it got way out of hand.

Anyway I was surfing Facebook and the office manager has made a comment about it on her facebook and tagged my manager and the person who sits next to me. The comment was brief along the lines of "what do I have to deal with".

Aibu in thinking that's not right?

OP posts:

It was the OP complaining about the heat and this was while a colleague brazenly wore their outdoor coat. They won't feel the benefit.

Did someone say gatekeeping?

So many gatekeepers

OP, seriously, I think you need a hobby. This is just weird, not to mention ridiculous. I can't believe anyone would think this is important enough to come onto MN and tell a bunch of random strangers about something which happened three years ago 🙄Incidentally, did anyone else complain about the heating, and why was your colleague wearing a coat if it was so hot? I suspect they were pleased to see you go.

No one said gatekeeping?

You imagined it three years ago because you overheated.

Ohnobackagain · 27/12/2024 20:46

@blueshoes nothing to stop her commenting on an old post and yes, they probably would think she’s nuts - but they may do anyway. Who knows. I often see people re-sharing years-old posts or waking them up by commenting - bit like zombie threads on here. Most employers
have social media policies these days; mine does.

I haven’t RTFT, but

a) Has anyone suggested something quite radical, like not giving a shit?
b) Are you on the sherry?
c) I’ve got Bob Geldof on the blower, he wants to do a concert to raise awareness but he is currently fighting with
d) Andrew Lloyd Webber who is penning a musical about #TemperatureGate.

In any case, YABU.

OP and the #temperaturegate Dreamcoat?

Same-name-but-shortened was blatantly trolling the OP by wilfully undermining the complaint.

I'm making any early nomination for Classics.

Why was she wearing a coat if it was so hot in the office? Why does my head hurt?

OP needs to confirm, or deny, that the coat in question was indeed technicolour.

Not that's a cunning ploy. I have greatest respect for coat woman. Wish I thought of that.

Lifestooshort71 · 27/12/2024 20:50

Why was she wearing a coat if it was so hot in the office? Why does my head hurt?

Because it was likely not actually hot. Possibly OP's carping and complaining about how warm it was had caused her long-suffering colleagues to reduce the office heating to temperatures not seen since Captain Scott's attempt on the South Pole.

"Gentlemen, I am going outside (in my coat), and may be some time."

ShelfyElfy · 27/12/2024 20:56

Please could you clarify the timeline so I can help you work out what's gone on here?

When did the person put the post on Facebook? At the time when you were dealing with the heating issues?

Why do you have reason to believe it's about you and not some other issue that may have been happening several years ago?

These would be reasonable questions in your space-time dimension, but not here. I'm sorry about that.

The timeline is the exact timeline the incident happened.
It was either very recent or some years ago, still to be confirmed. But it happened on the exact date of the incident, whenever that may have been.
Obviously because the incident happened on this day it can only be about that. Awaiting further information.

Thats you all caught up hope it helped 🤣🤣

Jaggy1 · 27/12/2024 21:00

Ironically, the OP is actually gatekeeping some much needed detail.

It's just typical of MN users. Either leave your husband as he is breathing or gatekeep what people should care about. No care or compassion

I know MN has a reputation as a “nest of vipers” at times. But I have seen a lot of genuine care and compassion on here. People who have offered OPs support and kind words through bereavement, break-ups, their children going through serious illnesses, their teenagers going off the rails and keeping them awake night after night worried sick…

You saw a vague Facebook post from several years ago that may relate to an incident in a job you no longer have.

Do you see where I’m going with this?

Well, 'surrounded by snakes 3 years ago, who came to a baptism'

Seriously - who cares. I am very laidback but I can't believe OP actually cares about something so pointless and trivial

Because! There was a Christmas card involved. A 2024 one. (I think...)
