Why do my in laws ALWAYS desecrate my toilet?!

sydneyprescott · 08/12/2024 09:48

In laws coming round this morning. So I’ve cleaned the downstairs bathroom.

Literally EVERY time they come, one or both of them take a massive stinky dump in our newly cleaned toilet. Can they not bloody go at home? For context they only live 10 mins away so it’s not like they have a big drive and then need to drop off a load

People die of embarrassment regarding bowels and poo.
so here's something maybe a little bit useful to take from this weird thread

Anyotherdude · 08/12/2024 14:31

We installed an extractor fan in the visitor’s loo (the downstairs one). Regular cleaning and a lovely reed diffuser plus the fan ensures that even DH’s worst efforts no longer leave a smell. I wouldn’t put up with skid marks, though, so if they leave these, I would be having a stern word!

Maybe they have bowel issues they don’t want to discuss with their daughter in law. Why are people so obessed and offended by someone having a poo. Poo smells. That’s life. It’s also a natural bodily function that we all do.

being offended by natural bodily functions is a bit precious really isn’t it 😂

Don’t think it is about people having a poo more them not cleaning up after themselves.

Using the toilet as it is intended doesn’t mean leaving it gross for the next person who has to use it.

It’s bad enough the way people leave public bathrooms, but to leave a family members’ loo in a disgusting state is disrespectful.

At no point in the OP does it say they leave a mess. Just that it’s stinky, as poo tends to be.

So all of the people getting offended on the OPs behalf are literally offended that people are using a toilet for its intended purpose. You couldn’t make it up 😂.

Still no sign of the op
How strange?

@Hobnobswantshernameback - I don't think it's strange the OP hasn't returned. After all, this is a thread where No Mumsnetter Ever Shits in Another's Toilet - and maybe OP was looking for more scatalogical content?

I know right! Poo smells!

PocketSand · 08/12/2024 14:58

Some of us are literally anally retentive and barring temporary stomach issues or longstanding conditions (which would result in taking Imodium or taking other steps) would never poo outside the home. Some people can't understand this and poo freely.

Not cleaning up after yourself and cracking open a window when not in your own home is a sign of disrespect or a deep seated belief that others should clean up after you or a passive aggressive silent protest that a particular person should clean up after you and say nothing. So say something. Pooing in a toilet is fine. Saying open a window and clean up after yourself is also fine.

PinkyFlamingo · 08/12/2024 14:59

A toilet is for doing poos and pees in. It's not a show toilet. When you need to go you need to go. At no point in the OP does it say they leave it a mess so I'm not sure why people are assuming this

sequin2000 · 08/12/2024 15:03

Lots of heimscheißers on this thread!

(Heimscheißer- home shitter, a German word for someone who only can go on their own toilet)

SaagAloopa · 08/12/2024 09:56

But shit does smell

I did a whole module on Public Health at university.

Bacteria in your gut break down undigested food through fermentation, which produces gases like hydrogen sulfide and methane that cause odour. The type of bacteria in your gut and what you eat determines which gases are produced. The type of food you eat and a compound in your digestive tract called skatole also contributes to the smell of poo.

QI : well into the 19th Century many believed that it was the foul smell of human waste, amongst other things , that spread disease, so called Miasma Theory. Joseph Bazalgette and even Florence Nightingale were committed Miasmists.

For someone who has gallbladder removed and had 4 colonoscopies with about 16 polyps removed - I have to go more urgently.

I cannot stand people who say they can only go when they at home. How do they cope if they are on holiday, staying at family/friends or in hospital for several days?

The term Heimscheißer doesn't only relate to pooping habits.

gamerchick · 08/12/2024 15:10

Ah the weekly poo thread. Bang on time.

Auburngal · 08/12/2024 15:12

Oh I do hate it when I have to do a poo at other's homes and it leaves skid marks. No brush. Have to put hand into the bowl (once it has flushed) to rub it off. Toilets in restaurants, shopping centres etc - a couple of sheets of loo roll in the bowl.

@MyrtlethePurpleTurtle i think my sarcasm may not have been obvious in my concern at the OP's absence

Anotherworrier · 08/12/2024 15:16

theotherplace · 08/12/2024 13:24

What a strange thing to NOT be aware of. If everyone else is keeping the toilet tidy and clean, it's obvious when a regular guest f-s it up each time.

Op I wonder if there's air freshener out? Maybe get one of those funny signs about leaving the loo as you find it.

I would never… but then my house is quite busy, so?

My mistake, that’s how I interpreted when OP meant desecrate. I didn’t think smell alone would put it under the desecration category.

Leaving it smelly is expected, unfortunately OP doesn’t look like they’ll be back to say if it is just the smell.

Tbh, if I lived only ten minutes away, I would just wait until I got home.

I agree the use of the word desecration I took to mean mess

BettyBardMacDonald · 08/12/2024 15:30

Any oil will do what VIPoo does, worth a try. Mix with some essential oil or perfume scent and pour into loo before they arrive.

GiddyRobin · 08/12/2024 15:36

Tell them you do not pass solids in the downstairs lavatory? Worked well for these two.

Why do my in laws ALWAYS desecrate my toilet?!
Mipil · 08/12/2024 15:37

Why would OP know if the suffer from IBS/IBD or urge incontinence, @Nolegusta? It’s their private medical information to choose whether they share that or not.

It’s not relevant whether they do or don’t have bowel issues as to whether your comments are ignorant or ableist.

I quote you:

It is quite odd. If someone has bowel issues they may end up caught shortbon occasion, but that wouldn't be with such regularity.

I pointed out why that is factually incorrect.

You then followed that with:

Well then have the coffee, or do whatever thing stimulates the poo, at home, before coming? Of course they don't need to mark territory at home, do they? 🤢🤢🤢🤢

As I already explained, that won’t work if they have something like IBS.

So you think people with a medical condition or disability should moderate their lives so they don’t inconvenience people with their bodily functions leaving a smell (NB OP hasn’t said they leave a mess, just a smell)?
