Why do my in laws ALWAYS desecrate my toilet?!

sydneyprescott · 08/12/2024 09:48

In laws coming round this morning. So I’ve cleaned the downstairs bathroom.

Literally EVERY time they come, one or both of them take a massive stinky dump in our newly cleaned toilet. Can they not bloody go at home? For context they only live 10 mins away so it’s not like they have a big drive and then need to drop off a load

OP posts:

Maybe they are nervous or so comfortable that they find they need the loo.

I used to get dreadfully nervous when visiting a 'friend's' house and I'd always need to use their loo. It was odd. I always made sure it was clean though and she did bitch about people using the loo. I had to go round regularly because our dcs did an activity together.

FuckItItsFine · 08/12/2024 13:32

I’d be handing them some Imodium when they cross the threshold.

Every day's a school day on Mumsnet. Who knew that there are people who even think this?

Sadly there are people who do things like this, maybe partly to save money on loo roll or to avoid having to clean.

Printedword · 08/12/2024 13:37

Air fresheners are bad for asthmatic people so we have never had one in the house.

I would actually be cross if someone used cleaning products on my loo. No one without a psychological problem cleans the loo after every poo except with a loo brush.

All these marking territory comments are bizarre in the extreme.

Anywherebuthere · 08/12/2024 13:39

It's a toilet.

As long as it's left clean and windows left open for fresh air etc then it shouldn't be a problem.

Have you never ever used anyone elses toilet?

luckylavender · 08/12/2024 13:40

TTPDTS · 08/12/2024 09:50

I mean I personally can't do that outside of my own house so I feel your pain - it's almost a bit rude!

Hopefully they at least make an attempt to clean it / air it out?!

I wouldn't begrudge family members using a toilet for what it was made for, but I wouldn't expect it to be left a stinky mess.

Lucky you. Many of us have to go when we need to go. Unless you prefer I stay at home permanently. But I always clean up.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 08/12/2024 13:07

Eh?? How do you draw that weird conclusion?

To save dirtying theirs!

Cleaning up any mess/smell?
Who thinks it's ok to arrive and someone else's house then stink it out?

Every time. Not normal

BriocheForBreakfast · 08/12/2024 13:46

MrsAga · 08/12/2024 11:18

V I Poo (genuinely thought this was a made up joke when I first heard about it) It’s fabulous, the pink one smells divine. Spritz inside the loo before they arrive & the room smells lovely. When the “item” hits the water, the smell is sealed in. Leave it out so the offender can re use it too.

Not sure if it helps prevent skid marks too, but I haven’t noticed any, so maybe it does.

This. It's great for trapping any smells. Not cheap but you don't need to use much in one go.

LegoHouse274 · 08/12/2024 13:47

MintyFreshest · 08/12/2024 10:08

For the most part I simply cannot go outside of my own home. I might want to, but it just won't come out.

I really wish this weren't the case because it's very uncomfortable and I can be left with griping stomach pain all day

I'm the same. On the extremely rare incidents where ive done a poo in a workplace or public toilet etc it's because I've had an upset stomach basically and went home pretty much straight afterwards.

It's a real issue if I go on holiday or stay with relatives etc. I envy people who can shit anywhere!

Cattery · 08/12/2024 13:49

Who walks straight into someone’s house and stinks out the toilet

Mipil · 08/12/2024 13:49

Nolegusta · 08/12/2024 12:34

Well then have the coffee, or do whatever thing stimulates the poo, at home, before coming? Of course they don't need to mark territory at home, do they? 🤢🤢🤢🤢

Ableist comments like that deserve a patronising response 🙄

Which university did you study armchair psychology at?

If they have something like IBS, that isn’t going to work unless they take a powerful laxative to completely empty their bowels. People with bowel disease do often avoid eating and drinking when they are out in case they get caught short. You would hope that the one place they feel comfortable doing normal things like having a social cup of coffee would be at a family member’s home.

JC03745 · 08/12/2024 10:25

Add lots of reed diffusers, but that won't help them with the cleaning.

We've been renovating and 1 workman did the biggest poonami I've ever seen. Poo had sprayed upwards and covered the underneath of the seat! He'd made no attempt to clean it either! 😡

I would have called him back to clean the loo. Use the loo by all means but it is manners to clean up after yourself.

This isn't ablesist, nice try though.
OP has not suggested either of them have IBS.

Poppins21 · 08/12/2024 13:58

I lived in an old house we were renovating with only an outdoor loo. The renovations took ages and when we finally got a loo inside….it felt real weird and unclean to poo in the main house 😂

ProvincialLady24 · 08/12/2024 09:54

Put a note up about leaving the loo as you find it.::

You can buy little wall plates that say leave the toilet as you found it.

Exactly. The in-laws live ten minutes away and visit for a coffee, why do they need to take a poo in op house every single time. It would piss me right off

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 08/12/2024 14:02

Only on mumsnet will you find people who are offended by a toilet being used for its intended purpose 😂

Are you deliberately ignoring all the posts explaining why this is odd? Why can't they use their own toilet as it was intended?

Does it matter? Honestly? It’s weirder to me that people are giving it so much thought! 😂

It's definitely weird for one of you to deposit a stinky 💩 every single time you visit a house 10 mins away.

Maybe they have bowel issues they don’t want to discuss with their daughter in law. Why are people so obessed and offended by someone having a poo. Poo smells. That’s life. It’s also a natural bodily function that we all do.

being offended by natural bodily functions is a bit precious really isn’t it 😂

Hobnobswantshernameback · 08/12/2024 14:14

Still no sign of the op
How strange?

LlynTegid · 08/12/2024 14:15

I would hope if one or both of them had a bowel condition such as IBS they would have told the OP or her DH. My pure guess is that one or both of them complains about the other one's smell so they avoid doing so at home as much as possible.
