I'm a celebrity

I've watched a bit of it over the years.

I was watching a couple of this year's episodes, and I just thought that the trials have gotten so much worse.

Yesterday they had Oti mabuse, one of the contestants, stand in a sarcophagus. They poured sand into it, up to her neck, so her whole body was covered in sand, and she couldn't move at all.

She had a tiny head space for air. Then they filled that head space with giant cockraches, ants and large worms.

I was watching it and thinking,

"When did watching people being completely tortured on TV become acceptable."

Is it not going too far?

You should watch some of the Korean and Japanese ones oof

This is what I was going to say. Some of those shows are next level.

AutumnalBaker · 04/12/2024 23:19

You know some men are getting off on watching the woman being tortured that way. It’s unethical media, for sure.

I haven't seen any of them. They sound bad.

Yes that's what I think.

I noticed that when one of the female campmates was screaming ,

you could hear some of the crew laughing in the background

It isn't torture.

I don't live in England.

As we have already pointed out, "gotten" is used in other English speaking countries.

How on earth are women being tortured? Confused (On I'm A Celebrity?)

It isn't torture.

I think it is.

The contestants are screaming form genuine fear on the show.

So what word would you use to describe being buried up to your neck in sand , and having thousands of bugs all over your face. Cockroaches going into your ear.

What word would you use?

An easy payday in the world of celebrity and fame?

corianderpomander · 04/12/2024 23:23

I used to like it years ago but now it's too much. I've not been able to watch for ages. It feels like watching torture.

They volunteered. For money. What part of that corresponds to, for example, being stoned to death for adultery, or being burned at the stake while alive by the Spanish Inquisition?

Isn't how you frame it though you're presenting it as being forced to do trials under extreme pressure so that they and their camp mates can eat.

Where as if you say celebrities choose to enter a show to earn between £100ks- £1.5million where they knowingly enter a basic camp in the jungle under very basic rations with the option to voluntarily do tough challenges to gain more food beyond those basic rations.

It's not as harsh. You could do the same with a lot of game shows/ reality TV shows.

Yeah it's gotten to a shocking level.

Like they had Tulisa eating two huntsman spiders this year.

Then they filled Oti up to her neck in sand, and poured giant burrowing cockroaches round her face .

It's bad.

But neither had to do those things did they?
