I'm a celebrity

I've watched a bit of it over the years.

I was watching a couple of this year's episodes, and I just thought that the trials have gotten so much worse.

Yesterday they had Oti mabuse, one of the contestants, stand in a sarcophagus. They poured sand into it, up to her neck, so her whole body was covered in sand, and she couldn't move at all.

She had a tiny head space for air. Then they filled that head space with giant cockraches, ants and large worms.

I was watching it and thinking,

"When did watching people being completely tortured on TV become acceptable."

Is it not going too far?

Yes the eating eyeballs is bad.

And they got them to eat spiders and mouse feet too.

Well this is quite something.

It's not torture
I've worked with many refugees and asylum seekers who have been subjected to torture. They can't make it stop.
They have lost use of their limbs, lost fingers and toes, are in chronic pain, have been raped, been sexually assaulted with electric batons I could go on.
Please don't call this torture. It diminishes what people are subjected to daily around the world, and why people need sanctuary and support.

Exactly this. No-one on I'm A Celebrity is being subjected to any kind of abuse or torture, and yes it does diminish actual suffering that (some) people go through over the world.

Yes it is!

A quick Google search will help you.

No need, I have a good command of the English language.

No need, I have a good command of the English language.

So you should know that gotten is a word then.

I can’t bare to watch it anymore. I like the chatter around the camp, but that’s it.

Add a bottle of jagermeister and this is a grand night out for lots of us.

But they're told if they say the words, then the other contestants won't get any food.

They will still get rice and beans but get more variety if they get stars.

Not in the UK where the vast majority of MN lives.

murasaki · 04/12/2024 23:14

This is like those nutters who used to write in to Points of View saying 'disgusting, 57 minutes of utter filth'. Well you could have turned it off earlier, mate, you enjoyed it, own it.

Bumpinthenight · 04/12/2024 23:14

Gotten is North American.

Oti was told what would happen in the trial and was asked if she wanted to do it. She could have refused.
She could have said 'I'm a celeb...'

She chose to do the trial. She chose not to quit.

Of course gotten is a word, it's just not commonly used anymore. Surely you have heard the expression "ill-gotten gains"?

vodkaredbullgirl · 04/12/2024 23:14

Think this thread has gotten out of control 😆

Was it ever in control? It’s batshit.

crockofshite · 04/12/2024 23:15

The whole programme is a sick joke, ie on the slebs. Silly greedy fuckers for taking the huge bribes on offer to be humiliated and eat shit.

No one knows how many people from different countries are on mumsnet. I've been on threads on here, where there were a lot of posters from Australia and Canada.

People from other countries do use mumsnet.

And "gotten" is definitely a word that is used in other countries.

Evening, everyone. We're just popping in to appeal for a bit of calm. We've had to delete several posts already. If many more go, it will put the thread as a whole at risk and we may also have to suspend posters. Could we please ask everyone to draw a line under any disagreements now so the thread can move on? Thank you.

Yes I totally agree.

It's just a ridiculous concept
