I'm a celebrity

I've watched a bit of it over the years.

I was watching a couple of this year's episodes, and I just thought that the trials have gotten so much worse.

Yesterday they had Oti mabuse, one of the contestants, stand in a sarcophagus. They poured sand into it, up to her neck, so her whole body was covered in sand, and she couldn't move at all.

She had a tiny head space for air. Then they filled that head space with giant cockraches, ants and large worms.

I was watching it and thinking,

"When did watching people being completely tortured on TV become acceptable."

Is it not going too far?

I’ve never seen it. Or any TV programmes, in 30 years.
Last time I watched Ant & Dec they were PJ & Duncan.

KrisAkabusi · 04/12/2024 22:57

People that are actually tortured do not have a choice. These celebrities do. To call it torture is offensive to those that actually go through it.

This is obviously a joke. Not a very funny one though op

A good lesson to learn.

Just because you disagree with someone , doesn't mean that the other person is joking.

No I'm definitely not joking

So what word would you use to describe being buried up to your neck in sand , and having thousands of bugs all over your face. Cockroaches going into your ear.

What word would you use?

How would you describe what they are doing to the contestants?

Paying them vast amounts of money for tolerating a few days discomfort would be my description.

I wouldn't use a word. I would describe it as a few minutes of very well-paid, very low-risk, voluntary discomfort.

MILsAreHumanToo · 04/12/2024 23:01

It is hardly “torture” when they are voluntarily entering, being paid megabucks to take part, they know what it is about and they are free to leave as soon as they ask to do so. No, not torture at all. It is merely another paid job, and/or a test of endurance, and/or a desire for infamy. However, it is torturous and horrific to watch … and isn’t that part of what draws the viewing public?

You're the one constantly repeating yourself @Mearabade banging on and on about me. You seem quite obsessed with me actually. Are you OK?

Do you want me to send you a signed photo? #superfan!

So if I hold you down so you can't move , and pour cockroaches all over you, what would you call it?

It's not torture
I've worked with many refugees and asylum seekers who have been subjected to torture. They can't make it stop.
They have lost use of their limbs, lost fingers and toes, are in chronic pain, have been raped, been sexually assaulted with electric batons I could go on.
Please don't call this torture. It diminishes what people are subjected to daily around the world, and why people need sanctuary and support.
