I know some people pronounce the 'l' in Almond, but I don't think it can be many. I've never heard it except from my husband and it drives me nuts (!)

So how many do?

YABU: One should pronounce the 'l' in Almond.

YANBU: Of course you bloody don't!

I don’t know how you would pronounce it without the L tbh!

Ah-mond

Amaranthasweetandfair · 30/11/2024 18:12

Oll-mond. But I'm northern.

Must be a regional thing.

Well I know what to post in the next "I was today years old when I learned. . " thread.

I think my speech is littered with incorrect l's. I love an ah-mond croissant too.

There are estimated to be 56 different accents in the UK yet minds boggle on theses threads every single time in utter astonishment that people pronounce words differently.

I say it more like ah-mond so don't sound the 'l' at all.

This. It's ah,mond. Can't stand it pronounced any other way

Jane159 · 30/11/2024 18:16

I pronounce it all-mund or al-mund or maybe even awe-mund - but awe-mund and all-mund sound very similar to my ear.

I don't think I've ever pronounced it ar-mund or ah-mond though.

Who knew there were so many ways to say it? It had never occurred to me before.

GoldenLegend · 30/11/2024 17:54

I remember Chris Tarrant pronouncing it as all-mond on Millionaire and I thought I'd never heard anything so weird in my life. It's like people who say pollis for police, thee-atr for theatre and sing-ging for singing.

Oh this made me laugh!

I don’t like the L being pronounced. I say armond (or more armund).

Christ. If you pronounced the 'L' round here you'd get the piss taken out of you for being a pretentious twat and you would become known as Mrs Bucket (Boo-kay/Bouquet) from Keeping Up Appearances.

.... So it's armund for me.

ginasevern · 30/11/2024 18:22

In the West Country it's pronounced "aumund".

BunnyLake · 30/11/2024 18:23

I’ve just gone on google (almond pronunciation) and it’s come up as ahmund. I feel vindicated after the gify laugh response I got 😁
