Sushi restaurant drama

After reading another similar post I had to get opinions on if I was unreasonable.

I was at a sushi train a few weeks ago with DH and kids. It was close to closing time so there wasn’t a huge selection left. At the booth next to us were four kids, their parents ( four adults) were at the booth opposite the kids. My kids were loudly calling out what they wanted, and as the food went past the table of kids before us they took everything my kids wanted. Despite telling my kids to stop calling out what they wanted, it continued. The kids at the next table had quite a bit of half eaten sushi piled up, the parents hadn’t noticed. I know I should have told the parents their kids were being silly, but due to being a little hangry I said I wanted octopus balls, it was the most expensive plate colour and there were a few, and this is when the parents realised what was happening. They were not pleased, one of the men picked up the plates and put them on our table and said we were paying for it. I grabbed the couple of plates we had actually eaten from and went to the checkout and explained what happened. I only paid what I should have.
A couple of friends said I should have paid for at least some of it.
Was I in the wrong?

Do octopi have balls?

Helixpoint · 27/11/2024 07:38

They should have been supervising their kids

reesiespieces · 27/11/2024 07:39

Takoyaki sounds better than octopus balls 🤭

But OP YANBU

GoldenPineapple15 · 27/11/2024 07:39

I always heard their testicles are delicious !

CRbear · 27/11/2024 07:40

Absolutely genius on your part and you did nothing wrong! Unrelated side note - those parents must be loaded to let kids just get what they want at this sort of place.

Sethera · 27/11/2024 07:40

So you asked for Octopus balls but the children at the other table took them, not you?

NineDaysQueen · 27/11/2024 07:40

Well, this post has foxed me.
A sushi train? Wtf is that? Does it travel, or in a siding?
Your kids were shouting for their food rather than asking politely?
I have no idea what you are talking about

Damnloginpopup · 27/11/2024 07:41

Actually, I have now googled about octopi testicles. Quite fascinating.

Octopussy less so.

CRbear · 27/11/2024 07:41

whats with the childish humour?

no one laughs at “chicken balls” from the Chinese? And she would get millions of “what’s takoyaki?” if she had said that…

JimPanzee · 27/11/2024 07:42

I can't figure out if you ate the octopus or not?

Also I doubt the parents didn't realise until then, they simply didn't care until the kids picked the most expensive items just to waste them.

Do they have balls in each arm in the same way they have a brain in each?

BeerForMyHorses · 27/11/2024 07:42

I'm a little confused. Did you actually want the octopus balls or just saying it so the kids next to you took them?

RampantIvy · 27/11/2024 07:42

Is a Sushi train a conveyor belt? Like you get at Yo Sushi?

ElfAndSafetyBored · 27/11/2024 07:43

No, it’s not your responsibility to monitor their children behaviour.

I like to think I would have said something to the parents earlyier but pretty sure I wouldn’t have.

Cwazycupcake · 27/11/2024 07:43

I can’t quite remember what it was exactly. Some sort of octopus in the shape of a ball.🤮 You know the weird expensive plates.

The serious police have arrived
No ball quips allowed

Why do you assume it's humour? Seriously, Google it. They have a rather interesting reproductive biology.

I dive. They are absolutely fascinating creatures.

She was just saying it because they are expensive. It's not hard to understand.

levantine · 27/11/2024 07:45

Why on earth should you have paid for something their children took? Those parents should have been supervising their kids properly

TheSilkWorm · 27/11/2024 07:45

So the kids' father said you should have paid for their plates because their kids took the ones you wanted? Eh?

ThanksItHasPockets · 27/11/2024 07:45

OP was at a conveyor belt sushi restaurant like Yo Sushi. You take your chosen plates from the belt and pay for what you have eaten. They are colour coded to correspond to the prices.

The obnoxious children at the next table were closer to the entry point of the food. They listened to OP’s children saying what they wanted and deliberately took it off the belt before it reached OP and family. Irritated by this, OP loudly said that she wanted one of the most expensive dishes on the menu. The obnoxious children duly took it and their parents only noticed once their children’s behaviour got expensive.

YANBU and the other adults should have supervised their children.

SatansBobbleheadedDashboardOrnament · 27/11/2024 07:45

Those parents must be minted if they're letting their kids loose on a sushi train.

If you ate the balls you should have paid for them, obviously. If he simply plonked them on your table, you shouldn't have.

On a side note, octopus balls are delicious.

100% this, kudos to you OP!

BeerForMyHorses · 27/11/2024 07:49

@TotallyTwisted calm down, I was only asking a question

PastaAndChill · 27/11/2024 07:49

Of course you shouldn't have paid for them! They (the children and the parent) sound like they shouldn't be out in public.
