Sushi restaurant drama

After reading another similar post I had to get opinions on if I was unreasonable.

I was at a sushi train a few weeks ago with DH and kids. It was close to closing time so there wasn’t a huge selection left. At the booth next to us were four kids, their parents ( four adults) were at the booth opposite the kids. My kids were loudly calling out what they wanted, and as the food went past the table of kids before us they took everything my kids wanted. Despite telling my kids to stop calling out what they wanted, it continued. The kids at the next table had quite a bit of half eaten sushi piled up, the parents hadn’t noticed. I know I should have told the parents their kids were being silly, but due to being a little hangry I said I wanted octopus balls, it was the most expensive plate colour and there were a few, and this is when the parents realised what was happening. They were not pleased, one of the men picked up the plates and put them on our table and said we were paying for it. I grabbed the couple of plates we had actually eaten from and went to the checkout and explained what happened. I only paid what I should have.
A couple of friends said I should have paid for at least some of it.
Was I in the wrong?

Or indeed meatballs

Or quorn balls

CheeseyOnionPie · 27/11/2024 21:39

YANBU the parents should have been watching their kids

That’s what I was wondering.

I suppose if you knew what was going on oP, he might have thought you should have alerted him to it rather than inflaming it, albeit that he should have been supervising.

They had taken the lid off most, but yes could have put some back.

YANBU. They should have been supervising their children.

I’ve been to lots of sushi places but I can’t see what’s coming down the conveyor belt until it’s practically on top of me. I can see the plates and the plastic dome covers but not the contents.

Evidently, though, they could. Is that hard to grasp?

Sorry, you lost me at 'octopus balls'. Do they have balls? And do people actually eat them?! 🤢

Why are people being so stupid about the words 'octopus balls'?

whats with the childish humour?

no one laughs at “chicken balls” from the Chinese? And she would get millions of “what’s takoyaki?” if she had said that…

Everyone laughs at chicken balls, don't they?🤔

Well, this post has foxed me.
A sushi train? Wtf is that? Does it travel, or in a siding?
Your kids were shouting for their food rather than asking politely?
I have no idea what you are talking about

There was quite a famous scene in Miranda when she got her necklace caught in the sushi train! www.facebook.com/share/v/17s5vmqYP9/

Clearly the reason I am not au fait with popular culture and parlance is that I don't really watch programmes where prat falls seem to be the main content!

I don’t watch tv or eat sushi.

I know exactly what a Sushi train is. You do t have to eat Sushi or watch tv to find out.

You just have to look around when you are out.
Granted there aren’t multiple on every street but they are there. You just have to take notice

Assuming you really wanted to know what sushi train is, it would have taken you about 4 seconds to google it. Took you way longer to type the message that you don't know what it is. Interesting choice.
