gives you the ick?

It seems very popular on Mumsnet. Do you stay in the ones you slept in or shower and put on fresh ones?

@healthybychristmas I generally don't shower in the morning but I do put a clean pair if pyjamas (or "loungewear" if you must) because I very rarely actually sleep in my pjs 😂

HellofromJohnCraven · 20/11/2024 23:12

I would bloody love it.

Marblesbackagain · 20/11/2024 23:19

Not on Christmas day but every year we do two pj days. One over the Xmas break and usually one over the summer break.

We also do a backwards day, have dinner for breakfast and breakfast for supper.

obsessedwithfreshbread · 20/11/2024 23:32

I have always been in the 'something fancy' for Xmas day... this year I have bought Santa swimwear 😂

ForGreyKoala · 20/11/2024 23:49

All I can say is thank goodness it's summer here for Christmas Day! No-one here will be slobbing around in their pjs. Everyone I know either goes to someone else's house, or entertains at their house. Comfy summer clothes = yes, pyjamas - definitely not!

Itoldyousoo · 20/11/2024 23:55

"To be honest I never believe anyone who says they have a shower and then put on a clean power pyjamas for the day."

Of course people do 😂 we are retired and do that some crappy weather days when we don't go out.

Littlesandjoolz · 20/11/2024 23:56

So I actually only buy clothes that can be worn to bed 🤷‍♀️

Itoldyousoo · 21/11/2024 00:00

We've all got different versions of these to wear with pj bottoms. Only here for presents, sprouts etc etc 😂

No, I love getting all dressed up on Christmas Day.

domesticgodmess · 21/11/2024 00:25

Not on Christmas Day, because I usually get nice clothes to wear.

Some other day, yes it sounds good and I sometimes do it, occasionally on a WFH day I just roll out of bed, put a nice jumper over my pyjama top for my online meetings and do my work. Or a lazy Sunday I might keep my PJs on, maybe 3 or 4 per year.

JaceLancs · 21/11/2024 00:32

I don’t wear pjs anyway - nightshirt or nothing depending on weather, then I get up and get dressed everyday
Xmas day I wear a comfortable stretchy sweater dress with thick tights and slippers
Pop my boots on when going out visiting DM and later DD
I like to relax but nightwear is for bed not Xmas

potatocrates · 21/11/2024 00:37

I think my clients would have something to say about that 😅

AndThereSheGoes · 21/11/2024 05:38

Needmorelego · 20/11/2024 23:03

@AndThereSheGoes yes but this thread has the word "pyjamas" in the title. Not "nightwear".
That's my whole argument - what is the difference between a pair of pj bottoms and a top and a pair of comfy trousers and a top?
Nothing is the answer. Other than what department they come under on a retailers website.
I doubt very few people sleep in those matching family sets - except maybe little kids.
They generally aren't actually used as "nightwear".

Well I agree to an extent but it's the interpretation of the question. It didn't say Christmas PJ's or mentioning changing. It said "all day" implying you got up in them and would go to bed in them.

Some people on a separate thread in Style and Beauty were amazed that others twere dressing up for Christmas Day ( the thread title was what are you wearing on Christmas Day) The two camps were "dress up" or "not bother" . Going to the effort to get back into a matching family set isn't the same as spending the day/ night in them.

Maverick101 · 21/11/2024 05:55

The only thing that bothers me about this is when posters talk about putting on a brand new pair of PJs.
Do they was them first? I can't stand the smell of finish in new clothes and it makes me itch. Especially when it's next to my skin.
I'm in Australia and I won't be wearing PJs on Christmas Day. Might go for a swim though, and clothing will be pretty casual.

Needmorelego · 21/11/2024 06:06

@Maverick101 by "brand new" I think people mean a clean pair from their wardrobe/drawer rather than the ones they have just slept in.

RedHelenB · 21/11/2024 06:14

Mumsnet is weird. Everyone I know dresses up Christmsd day.

Maddy70 · 21/11/2024 06:14

No. Nice frocks for xmas day. Soending all day in pjs is lazy and a bit gross

ExceededUsefulEconomicLife · 21/11/2024 06:52

As soon as I get in the house I take my trousers off and put my joggers on. Top depends on the season but it's currently an oodie. I live like that all year round and most Sundays I wake up in my joggers and go to bed in my joggers. I love it! Sometimes they're the same joggers and sometimes I'll have had a shower and it's different joggers.

Im a snoozy person at heart.

Christmas Day is spent out of the house so I have to change but I wouldn't if I didn't have to!

Notyouthful · 21/11/2024 06:56

I do not like the family wearing the same PJs. This never happened before insta.

okayhescereal · 21/11/2024 07:12

Needmorelego · 20/11/2024 22:33

@okayhescereal but if a person's pyjamas were literally just a plain navy pair of bottoms and a plain red t-shirt/sweatshirt - how would anyone know if they are wearing pyjamas or "loungewear" or just a pair of navy casual trousers and a red top?
That's what I meant.

Ah! Sorry for the overshare in that case.

Personally, I would know. And for me that's all that matters..

JubileeJuice · 21/11/2024 07:36

People on Mumsnet can be so horrid. Imagine judging someone for what they wear in their own home. Weird.

We all put new PJs on before bed on Christmas Eve. On Christmas morning we get up, straight in the car in our pjs and round to the grandparents to spend the day there.

I'm disabled and my husband has a chronic illness. It takes me hours to shower and dress, so doing that on Christmas morning would mean losing most of the day, because afterwards I need to rest. Lovely to know that I'm lazy, slobby, disgusting, smelly and whatever other delightful words were used.

Personally, I'd rather use my very little energy on being able to watch my family open their presents, eating Christmas dinner and spending time together, than being laid up all day just because I showered and dressed.

hopeishere · 21/11/2024 07:48

My kids don't wear pjs so get dressed. Plus we go out to my sisters. I will get dressed up but will get into pjs about 8pm!

Like a pp I don't even stay in them at the weekend. Once I'm up I get dressed. I find wandering round in them until 11 odd.

The difference between them and normal clothes is the fabric is generally thinner and you probably don't have a bra on.

Pumpkincozynights · 21/11/2024 07:49

Hell I wouldn’t wear pjs in front of anyone other than my dcs or dh.
Why on earth would you shower and then put pjs on to greet guests into your house? 😬
When I put my pjs/nightie/Onesie/Oody on, I don’t put a bra or knickers on. It’s comfort wear and I really,, really do not want to sit and eat dinner with people wearing pjs. It’s just slovenly.

Parker231 · 21/11/2024 08:09

Maddy70 · 21/11/2024 06:14

Why is it lazy and gross to decide to wear different clothes than you have chosen? I will shower before putting on my new pj’s and I won’t be lazying around.

We had matching Christmas pyjamas one year. Didn't share any photos with anyone but the children thought it was great.

Life is much simpler if you concentrate on your own life and not worry about what others do in their own home.
