gives you the ick?

It seems very popular on Mumsnet. Do you stay in the ones you slept in or shower and put on fresh ones?

Yes I’d love it. I’m a big fan of the occasional duvet day where I lounge around in my pjs and dressing gown all day and don’t leave the house.

A few years ago I had Covid at Christmas and spent all day on my own in my pjs eating M&S party food, playing music and drinking Prosecco - and it was my perfect Christmas Day!

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 20/11/2024 22:40

I personally can not do it, I usually stay in them until after the prezzies then I’m like, right I need to get dressed. My kids stay in theirs all day, sometimes my sister and bro do to.. I defo don’t dress up either. I just wear my usual clothes 🤪

overtheline77 · 20/11/2024 22:42

Christ the whole dressing up for Christmas now brings me out in hives. Do whatever makes you comfortable. It's a day not a pageant. No one should feel obliged to do anything that they don't want to. If you need a rest, wear whatever the hell you like. If you want to have a full on "event" knock yourself out.

Pumpkincozynights · 20/11/2024 22:42

No I like to wear nice clothes on Christmas Day.

littlemisspickles · 20/11/2024 22:43

Not Christmas Day, but we have a family pj day every Boxing Day. We eat and drink favourite easy snack foods, play an escape game, board games, watch a film and shut the rest of the world out for the day. Its my favourite day of the season.

Birdscratch · 20/11/2024 22:47

I adore my pjs and nightwear in general. I don’t understand the appeal of spending Christmas Day in pjs. Christmas Day is special. Spending all day in pjs is the polar opposite of special.

Esdale · 20/11/2024 22:48

I like to get a bit dressed up for Christmas, do my make up and hair etc. Same for Boxing Day. Both days we are out and about visiting people though.

We usually have a chilled day at home the day after Boxing day, as in get up, go for a walk, then a shower and put comfy clothes on, and chill out for the rest of the day.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 20/11/2024 22:52

Dress up nice to go visiting people in the morning, then home to make the dinner for me, dh and DD. I do get changed into a nice fresh lounge suit and we all get into our comfies. Why would I sit all kitted out when there's just us 3 here? Seems strange.

mindutopia · 20/11/2024 22:52

No, I am not a pyjamas person. I don’t even really do ‘lounge wear’. I get properly dressed every day (unless I’m deathly ill) in like actual I could wear this to the office clothes.

RampantIvy · 20/11/2024 22:55

I don't understand the mumsnet obsession with pyjamas. I find them too warm and uncomfortable and wear a nightie instead, and I don't like not getting dressed. I feel lazy and unmotivated if I don't get dressed.

VioletSpeedwell · 20/11/2024 22:55

What’s slobby about getting up having a shower and then putting on a pair of luxurious silk pajamas to have an amazing Christmas with 17 close family (also dressed up in pjs)

Because @Parker231 they're still pyjamas no matter how posh you try to make them sound. And you keep telling us that you spend Christmas Day with 17 people all in pjs and it just makes you sound like a "we're mad, us" family.

@VioletSpeedwell I'd say that @Parker231's family just sound like a normal family who likes to be comfortable. What's mad about that?

Toddlerteaplease · 20/11/2024 22:57

Spending all day in pyjamas would give me the Ick, Christmas Day or not.

healthybychristmas · 20/11/2024 22:58

QuestionableMouse · 20/11/2024 20:29

Well I sleep naked so out fresh PJ's on when I get up. I'm even going to drive to my sister's in them on Christmas day and will be in them all day. I can't relax properly in clothes in the house.

You can't wear clothes in the house? Really?

AndThereSheGoes · 20/11/2024 22:58

@Needmorelego for me the difference between PJ 's and leisure wear is the use p, not the clothes.
You change into night clothes so your bed isn't sullied by stuff you've been doing in the day. I don't wear underwear to sleep in either.
Cothes I've been lying in all night aren't for lying in all day.

I don't really get those people saying " I spend all day in pyjamas " when they got up, had a shower, put in underwear and changed into fresh ones. Clearly that's comfy clothes then, not nightwear?

healthybychristmas · 20/11/2024 22:59

The problem is that if you are wearing your pyjamas all day you are denying yourself the pleasure of getting into your pyjamas later on in the afternoon or evening.

RampantIvy · 20/11/2024 22:59

I would rather wear leggings and a jumper than pyjamas during the day. They are just as comfortable.

Jollyjoy · 20/11/2024 23:00

Wow MN is always such an education about these things! I’d LOOOOVE to wear pjs all day on Xmas day! I’m surprised how few people feel the same. This year I may actually get to as we are getting to stay at home with just us, mum DSis and BIL, and doing the wider family Xmas a few days before. I suppose I’ll want a nice walk so that would interrupt the jammie wearing, plus maybe wouldn’t be comfy doing it all day with BIL about.

But, love a day in jammies, no I don’t wear knickers (never knickers under jammies btw, that’s criminal). Love to get into them as soon as I can. Oodie also essential, and light cotton robe in summer. And controversially, I’d wear them into the next night if I wasn’t having a shower. I’m not that smelly, I’m not sure what people think will happen from a night sleeping and a day doing very little.

I can’t wait for everyone fly over - we hosted when we lived in London but this year we’re in Aspen at DSil. It’s fun - some people seem to have forgotten that.

Needmorelego · 20/11/2024 23:03

@AndThereSheGoes yes but this thread has the word "pyjamas" in the title. Not "nightwear".
That's my whole argument - what is the difference between a pair of pj bottoms and a top and a pair of comfy trousers and a top?
Nothing is the answer. Other than what department they come under on a retailers website.
I doubt very few people sleep in those matching family sets - except maybe little kids.
They generally aren't actually used as "nightwear".

Needmorelego · 20/11/2024 19:06

Yes it most definitely appeals.
#teamjammies

Me too! I’m definitely staying in my Christmas pjs for the whole day and no one, apart from my family, will be around. They will also be in their pjs, so no risk of giving anyone the icky wicky 😋

Absolutely. Instead of being a positive, cosy thing it’s a lazy, never got dressed thing. It steals the pyjama joy.

Needmorelego · 20/11/2024 23:04

@RampantIvy what's the difference though?
Other than the department of the shop you bought them in?

user1471516498 · 20/11/2024 23:05

I don't sleep in pyjamas, but if I am working from home I always wear hoodies and yoga pants, mainly because most work tends to be done with a cat on my lap, and too many good pairs of trousers have been damaged by claws.
However, I compensate by always having my makeup done and hair properly styled (no messy buns) by 9 at the latest, so that anyone who comes to the door can't judge me. Ok, rationally I know that nobody cares, but as a disabled person I know that I am judged more than most people would be.

healthybychristmas · 20/11/2024 23:05

Needmorelego · 20/11/2024 21:53

@Elphame I think the point is many people do "get up and get dressed" - just in a clean pair of pjs which for most people is just a loose pair of trousers and top.

To be honest I never believe anyone who says they have a shower and then put on a clean power pyjamas for the day.
