To be so disappointed in people - Trump voters especially

notsorighteousthesedays · 06/11/2024 06:43

I feel absolutely stunned that despite all that has been said and done Trump is likely to get the chance to make the world burn a little faster.

I am afraid for a future so full of anger and hate.

Agree. It's so sad.

SpudleyLass · 06/11/2024 06:47

Democrats need to field better candidates.

And stop insulting the electorate

This is 2016 all over again - they just refused to listen to what people were telling them.

SpunkyKoala · 06/11/2024 06:49

Well there was always a 50/50 chance trump would win from the outset and a white male v black female in a nation that is still widely and openly racist sexist and misogynistic in large swathes of the country it’s was always odds on for the white male - the US is a completely different beast to the UK there’s little in the way of ‘moderate views’ and they are fervent in their core beliefs.

Rollonsummerplease · 06/11/2024 06:54

It is more than depressing.
It is frightening.
Biden's selfish initial determination to run for a second term jinxed the chances of a Democratic win.

Yeah, cos Trump never insults anyone 🙄

maydaymayday1 · 06/11/2024 06:55

Well it's young women I feel sorry for. They will be the victims in this.

I do agree with this as well as being astonished people would willingly vote for Trump. The Democrats have missed the mark on a fair few things, when this could or should have been a fairly steady win for them.

Edited

Absolutely. Others in the party should have stopped him. He just wasn't in a fit state.

And to be honest, Harris wasn't the best replacement. She didn't shine as VP.

Nobody comes out of this well. Putin will be delighted. Awful news for Ukraine. The Baltic states may have reason to worry now.

Backwoods57 · 06/11/2024 07:02

Brit in the US:

Over the past 10 years the liberal's have shut down friendly political debate. If you are not a Democrat you are automatically shot down as being a Nazi supporter. This obviously has upset a majority. However they have just kept quiet and nodded along to maintain friendships, saving their true views for the privacy of the voting booth.

You cannot win thoughts and minds by shouting them down and demonizing them.

Coolasfeck · 06/11/2024 07:03

Well it looks like many Americans are keen to give their country to Elon Musk and the tech bros. Trump will not live out the term and Vance (Peter Theil) will take over. Regulations bonfire will begin.

Any Trump voter who’s not a straight, white, Christian man deserves what’s coming.

The people of Ukraine and countries surrounding Russia must also know it will be a few months before Trump hands Ukraine over to Putin.

The only positive thing is that this may mean the end to America’s malign influence on the rest of the world as we all attempt to block out the crazy.

OK well let the Democrats carry on doing it I suppose, seems to have worked so far for them.

I also worry about Gaza (not that Harris was clear about her intentions) ... the future is bleak indeed.

ChefsKisser · 06/11/2024 07:04

It’s awful. I was saying to DH I often feel like the US is v familiar because we watch so much American TV, music etc and feels similar to the UK but moments like this make you realise how starkly different it is. They’ve voted for selfishness and it’s embarrassing

notsorighteousthesedays · 06/11/2024 07:04

I feel guilty that this is the world we are passing on to our children - so many opportunities to do better squandered or stolen.
And of course I know it's not just US voters but this election brings it so sharply into focus - is our legacy really going to be fear, hate and greed?
It's not just dark outside 😔

I'm not a trump supporter, but isn't it best that we stay out of the Ukraine conflict now ? We are just asking for trouble by staying in it. I don't want to get nuked.

Grandmasswagbag · 06/11/2024 07:05

Both parties are as evil as each other. I don't think it's anything personal to do with Harris..she was sorting of MIA for the majority of her VP. People didn't really know what they were voting for with her, so actually I don't judge them. Would I have voted for Trump? Absolutely not, but I can understand why people did.

Shocking comment and underlines the point entirely. This attitude is why the left continue to lose support.

Toomanysquishmallows · 06/11/2024 07:06

@Rollonsummerplease , I agree, I think Biden made a dreadful decision, thinking he could run again.

Harris doesn't give a shit about Gaza. Look at what her and old Joe have let happen. Let's see what's Trump's standpoint is as to me it's slightly unclear ATM. You would think he will be massively sympathetic to Israel but he's a populist first and foremost and I thought that even in the US people are now uncomfortable with how the 'war' is going. He might actually take a stronger stand with the maniac government of Israel.

CurlewKate · 06/11/2024 07:10

@SpudleyLass "Democrats need to field better candidates."

Because Trump was positively stellar.....

MushMonster · 06/11/2024 07:10

To be honest, I do not see Kamala Harris or Biden as much better options. Most definitively Biden. I have not appreciated his 4 years in power. I think they messed up quite a lot. And US has so many large scale issues going on!
I am quite afraid of what will happen if Trump wins, like will they accept it? Or try to take him down? And if he loses; well that sounds worst! They will be back in the Capitol.
Surely they do have some other more able politicians in the parties. But, as you say, it is not only US. Many countries have quite deranged and useless poticians elected lately......

CatalinaLoo · 06/11/2024 07:13

I hate Trump but I’m kind of glad. America deserves everything they get with him. Good luck to them.

What is ‘the left’ and what do they believe? Then we can decide is Harris is ‘left’?
