To be so disappointed in people - Trump voters especially

notsorighteousthesedays · 06/11/2024 06:43

I feel absolutely stunned that despite all that has been said and done Trump is likely to get the chance to make the world burn a little faster.

I am afraid for a future so full of anger and hate.

Come on. So the Republicans can put a convicted, weird, racist, rapist in charge, who talks nonsense and somehow its the Democrats fault?!

The Democrats have once again lost to that man.

If you're not asking why, I can't help you.

I'm no Trump fan BTW, just frustrated that I'm seeing the same old mistakes that were made in 2016.

Thatsenoughcoffee · 06/11/2024 07:25

Trump on stage now

There just has to be better candidates who sit between the two extremes...

It can only come down to money and finances because I absolutely cannot believe that these two, Harris (and Biden to start) and Trump are the best a whole country can produce. It just creates a massive hole in the centre divide that forces people to choose which side of the centre they sit. Where are the moderates????

Motheranddaughter · 06/11/2024 07:25

Never underestimate the sexist and racist views of many Americans

TTPDTS · 06/11/2024 07:26

We see such a sensationalised view of the republicans online, which is why people then act shocked if there's a republican win - they're not all frothing at the mouth supremacists as depicted on the news.

The democrats won't win votes by demonising the people they're trying to win over - especially when Biden tried to run, proved that he was unfit to (and has been an unfit president) then dropped Kamala in to the race - there wasn't enough knowledge on her / her views, so then it seemed to become a social media hype / celebrity hype rally which isn't going to win people over.

The entire democrat campaign was mocking Trump - when the democrats have been in power and people haven't seen any improvements for years, spending a campaign not getting your point across isn't going to work.

I think people have the right to vote for what they want, calling an entire nation of voters stupid because we have taken a stance on it fed by our media from thousands of miles away is just silly.

I was surprised when Trump won in 2016. Well, now he’s done it again.
Never underestimate the stupidity of so many people.

And there you have it people. This is exactly why people vote Trump. To retaliate against smug self righteous people like this.

Sometimes you wonder if they are sleeper agent of Trump. Because they do such a good job in getting people to vote for him.

Wendysfriend · 06/11/2024 07:26

Here's the mad family being wheeled out again.

Exactly - how anyone could vote for him after all he's done is beyond comprehension. Sadly I'm not surprised, it's also infuriating that it's not only the US who will suffer - the world is now a much more volatile place thanks to Trump voters.

AlisonDonut · 06/11/2024 07:22

The Democrats don't even know what a woman is. So many women obviously decided not to put their trust in them. Do you not get it?

What's to get about voting for a rapist?

Completelyjo · 06/11/2024 07:27

ChefsKisser · 06/11/2024 07:04

It’s awful. I was saying to DH I often feel like the US is v familiar because we watch so much American TV, music etc and feels similar to the UK but moments like this make you realise how starkly different it is. They’ve voted for selfishness and it’s embarrassing

Edited

My FIL alway says if the US didn’t speak English we wouldn’t view them nearly as closely because actually culturally and ideologically they are so different to us

Better that than the party that castrates and trans children!

Backwoods57 · 06/11/2024 07:02

Brit in the US:

Over the past 10 years the liberal's have shut down friendly political debate. If you are not a Democrat you are automatically shot down as being a Nazi supporter. This obviously has upset a majority. However they have just kept quiet and nodded along to maintain friendships, saving their true views for the privacy of the voting booth.

You cannot win thoughts and minds by shouting them down and demonizing them.

I think the UK could do well to learn from this. Otherwise we’ll end up with Farage as PM in 2029.

ExtraOnions · 06/11/2024 07:28

Straight from the right-wing playbook … tell people that their failings in life are all due to “other people” , it’s not your fault it’s “thier” fault …. Vote for me and we get rid of “them” and you will reap the rewards.

Works well until you realise you are actually someone else’s “them” …

Fartsinthecheeseaisle · 06/11/2024 07:28

imagine Keir Starmer and Donald Trump in the same room.

It’s all gone a bit weird!

CroftonWillow · 06/11/2024 07:28

The number 1 issue is always the economy and the Democrats are victim to the same problem the Tory's were here - record inflation on the back of the response to Covid and Ukraine. The public are feeling the same cost of living pressures we feel here and have lost trust in the Dems. As an outsider who doesn't experience this on the ground the decision seems perplexing but it's entirely understandable.

Womblewife · 06/11/2024 07:28

Grandmasswagbag · 06/11/2024 07:05

Both parties are as evil as each other. I don't think it's anything personal to do with Harris..she was sorting of MIA for the majority of her VP. People didn't really know what they were voting for with her, so actually I don't judge them. Would I have voted for Trump? Absolutely not, but I can understand why people did.

Yes it’s better to let Putin invade all the countries around him. We know from hitler that never means war or the death of thousands of innocents - but at least it’s not in our back yard eh?

Willyoujustbequiet · 06/11/2024 07:30

Thatsenoughcoffee · 06/11/2024 07:27

Seriously?

You just said rape is preferable?

Is that the level of your bar? Jesus wept.

orangegato · 06/11/2024 07:30

Maybe Kamala offered fuck all apart from not being Trump? The opposition was not good at all.

She’s a nondescript nothing - weird lies and always on the fence. America saw through it thankfully.

If people vote for someone because someone else doesn't like that person or their supporters, sorry but that IS a stupid reason.
I don't care if people insult my party of choice and their supporters (and many often do). I wouldn't vote for a repugnant, racist, sexist criminal and give up some of my rights as a woman as a big FU to those people.

MillyMichaelson · 06/11/2024 07:30

He's standing up now and just said 'we're going to fix everything for the people' and wanging on about big crowds and big votes.

He doesn't have a single clue how to do the job. And judging by the misery evident on the stage, nobody in his family or extended group of hangers on, are really up for it either.

I'm devastated for my American friends who allowed themselves a tiny bit of optimism.

Fizley · 06/11/2024 07:30

I am thrilled trump is winning. Today is a great day!

Swivelhead · 06/11/2024 07:30

You lot are in thrall to the American war machine and devastated that it may be paused for a few years.

GoodGollyMsMolly · 06/11/2024 07:30

Ytcsghisn · 06/11/2024 07:22

Awwww, how sweet. You’re disappointed. Why don’t you lecture them about woke virtues and climate change. Then tell them how stupid they are for voting for Trump. That’ll teach ‘em.

It’s this kind of ‘oh aren’t they stupid and aren’t we the enlightened ones’ attitude that makes people actively vote for Trump.

This. The arrogance of the left.

Louri · 06/11/2024 07:30

I am so so disappointed.

However, I think the shit needs to hit the fan in America in order to lance the boil festering there. The only way the people who are confused about right and wrong, truth and lies, will change their minds is through their own experience.

So perhaps the US have elected the president they need in order to grow up and put aside their differences?

I just worry about what the price for this will be.
