To be so disappointed in people - Trump voters especially

I feel absolutely stunned that despite all that has been said and done Trump is likely to get the chance to make the world burn a little faster.

I am afraid for a future so full of anger and hate.

Robert Kennedy Junior will be in charge of Health so will probably ban all vaccines. Watch new strains of diseases we thought were behind us recirculate. Things like Polio.

Musk will have a business role. Watch workers rights bonfire. Just see how he treats his employees to see what he thinks about rights and regulations.

Holy shit.

And no it’s not the fault of Democrats saying mean things to Republican voters. This is all on Republican voters. This is the dystopian future they want.

It's probably wrong to single out one post

But this sort of language of hate and division is really unpleasant to read.

Did I want Trump? No.

But I absolutely refuse to buy in to this sort of nastiness about so many of the population.

Not asking you to condone it.
This is aibu, so each entitled to an opinion. My language was not hateful, or divisive; it wasn't a call to arms. It was an opinion
And yes, other posts saying the same thing are available

timetodecide2345 · 06/11/2024 07:43

I wish people would stop blaming democrats. They elected a convicted felon. Once is crazy but twice is a pathological trauma response!!

Sdpbody · 06/11/2024 07:43

We would have voted Trump in our household.

We also voted conservative here.

It has becoming increasingly apparent that you are demonised for having any different view other than the left is best.

People are allowed to vote in their best interests.

To the various people saying the Democrats need better candidates, please explain to me how Kamala Harris is under-qualified to be president? She's been a district attorney, attorney general for California, senator, and vice-president, and somehow that is still not good enough?

It's not that she's not got a strong government background - it's that she was no where near any campaign / media / rally at all, until part way through the process - she only appeared when Biden failed (which he had been for ages and they should have admitted much earlier!).

She was an unknown - who then spent time on stage with celebrities, instead of perhaps better communications about who she was and what she stood for. Coming on stage with Beyoncé etc is great to show you've got support, but when you only entered the race partway through you need to create a stronger identity for yourself imo. Her social media was mainly mocking Trump and celebrity endorsements - that's not going to help you win a majority when you've got such a wide range of voters.

I phrased that badly, but yes the harm caused by transgender ideology, the damage done by children being put on hormones, castrated, given mastectomies, etc, is much worse than Trump’s sexual assaults because it’s on an incomparably larger scale.

I’m sorry for the double-digit number of women assaulted by Trump but there’s just no comparison numerically. Transgenderism is the greater evil.

I am gender critical too.

But voting a rapist into power is abhorrent

Agree it doesn't need to be this one post, MN is full of examples.

The faliure to try and understand why people are voting Trump will be the downfall of the left- and it isn't because they are fascist.

That's not true at all. Left win supporters are 'demonised' by the right wing and visa versa. It definitely happens both ways.

I hate Trump but I’m kind of glad. America deserves everything they get with him. Good luck to them.

This is my attitude this is what they wanted, they need not complain when they can't access health care, when he doesn't save the economy, when he imposes tariffs which harm their businesses, it's so disappointing esp on the campaign he ran full of hate ,name calling, insults & pettiness

hairbearbunches · 06/11/2024 07:45

World War 2 is too far back in the rear view mirror now for too many people. Not everyone studied that perIod of history at school. People have no idea what fascism means and, if they do, they never ever think they’ll be the groups who will be singled out for scapegoating and blame.

Trump is a fascist. If professionals voted for Trump because of what it means to their wallets, they’re just 2024’s equivalent of ‘good Germans’.

if he has won, this will be the last election in the US for a good long while. Think on that. There will be a lot of buyers remorse in the US over the coming years. Maybe they need to raze the country to save the country, to coin a phrase.

Fizley · 06/11/2024 07:41

Not surprising you jumped straight to that kind of insult as you have nothing better to say. Yawn.

Oh, I have plenty to say, but I'm saving my energy for people who are actually worth engaging with.

There is no point in trying to debate with people who are clearly not capable.

DancingNotDrowning · 06/11/2024 07:46

It’s awful for the US and it’s awful for the world but the democrats played an appalling game.

Hanging on to Biden
Fielding Harris
A campaign run as if she was not the incumbent VP
A failure to listen to the electorate

Ultimately a desire for authenticity won. People are fed up of listening to polished meaningless drivel.

DurinsBane · 06/11/2024 07:47

SpunkyKoala · 06/11/2024 06:49

Well there was always a 50/50 chance trump would win from the outset and a white male v black female in a nation that is still widely and openly racist sexist and misogynistic in large swathes of the country it’s was always odds on for the white male - the US is a completely different beast to the UK there’s little in the way of ‘moderate views’ and they are fervent in their core beliefs.

Though it looks like trump has won the black vote in a lot of places as well

Lentilweaver · 06/11/2024 07:47

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 06/11/2024 07:42

I was about to agree with you- I don't want Farage in power but unless the ruling parties look into why they are not appealing to voters then he will get votes.

But then you get sucked into the lazy trope 'right wing fascist voters' and I realised you are just like them, unable to see the reasons.

A bit hard to call right wing fascist voters anything but what they are, when you are brown and the person they are trying to deport..The riots after Southport brought that home to me.

As JD Vance succinctly put it " I love my wife Usha because she is a good mom, even though she is brown". When Trump won last time, my brown family in the US saw an absolute uptick of violence and " Go back to Mexico" threats.

I'm not a trump supporter, but isn't it best that we stay out of the Ukraine conflict now ? We are just asking for trouble by staying in it. I don't want to get nuked.

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

You do realise that Russia invaded the Ukraine ? Like when Germany invaded country after country in the 1930s ?

'The failure to try and understand why people are voting Trump will be the downfall of the left'- Exactly.

It's a protest vote. People are unhappy. They are struggling financially. They hate the establishment and Trump cleverly portrays himself as anti establishment (obviously that isn't true). They don't want to vote for the same thing.
This happened when Trump was voted in before and with Brexit here. Labour were also an anti Tory vote rather than a pro Labour vote. They will be out next time.

nokidshere · 06/11/2024 07:48

Sorry if I'm being thick, I'm assuming, since he hasn't yet got the magic 270, the premise is that she can't win now even if she gets all remaining states?

Agreed. If they are stupid enough to think Trump gives a shit about them then they deserve what's coming.

I do believe he only wants presidency to avoid going to jail. Now that he's won, things are just going to get tougher for Americans. He won't do anything useful for them.

Bellatrixpure · 06/11/2024 07:48

The Democrats only have themselves to blame. Sad, they handed the victory to Trump on a silver platter

DancingTurtle · 06/11/2024 07:49

Well, all these pro-Palestinian Americans who protested against Harris should be happy now.

You sound really, really clever.

There is the problem. None of you can conceive of the fact that educated people might DISAGREE with you.

You believe people have to be stupid to not buy into creepy Kamala.

The patronising left as usual - hence the shock. Adorable.

ZenNudist · 06/11/2024 07:49

I have been certain he would get in I've said from the outset that they were never going to vote in a woman. Its going to be pretty awful having to listen to him for 4 more years.
