To be so disappointed in people - Trump voters especially

I feel absolutely stunned that despite all that has been said and done Trump is likely to get the chance to make the world burn a little faster.

I am afraid for a future so full of anger and hate.

Well Kamala didn’t leave much choice. She’s awful.

She's not a rapist.

Yes thats such a difficult choice.

Scirocco · 06/11/2024 07:37

I'm really concerned about how far things have swung not just in the US but globally.

People are concerned about immigration? Ok, but there's a difference between people being concerned about immigration and people trying to set fire to buildings containing innocent people, open racism, and people referring to other people and other countries as "garbage".

People are concerned about the economy? Ok, so why vote for candidates who made many people substantially worse off, have relied on family wealth to bail them out, have been convicted of crimes linked with business practices, etc.?

People are concerned about foreign policy? Ok, but why do some people then vote for a party or candidate that has been actively prejudiced against and harmful to groups/nationalities/faiths to which they belong?

People are concerned about women's rights and the safety of their daughters? Then why vote for candidates with histories of sexual misconduct or even sexual assault, who promise to roll back women's rights even further?

People are concerned about healthcare? Well, votes for people who advocate for the removal of key elements of public and individual health such as reproductive healthcare and vaccination programmes seem somewhat counterintuitive... And drinking or otherwise ingesting bleach remains a terrible idea.

People are concerned about democracy and justice? Ok, then why vote for convicted criminals, people who actively undermine democratic principles, and people who take a 'might equals right' approach?

I feel guilty that this is the world we are passing on to our children - so many opportunities to do better squandered or stolen.
And of course I know it's not just US voters but this election brings it so sharply into focus - is our legacy really going to be fear, hate and greed?
It's not just dark outside 😔

No matter who won or wins, our country is going to be nothing but a shit-show for the next four years.
Neither candidate had any right or reason to be on the ticket. This is what the hate, denigration, division on BOTH sides have wrought. No "side" is innocent in this debacle.

With Trumps energy plans and the plans to disband the EPA and other bodies that oversee and establish controls and Project 2025, there won't be a world to hand on to our Children. Also what children? With RFK Jr running the Dept of Health in the US, children will not be immunised and women's health will disintegrate.

They told you (Americans) what they were planning on doing to your systems, and you still followed blindly. You deserve everything you get. I have little pity for a country so terribly flawed and actively won't take steps to improve itself.

She's not a racist, misogynist, convicted rapist though... tough choice

Although I'm glad that apparently Trump will end the Russia Ukraine war in 24hrs!! I look forward to that! What a clown.

I guess if he withdraws all support for Ukraine and says to Outin keep what you have then Ukraine have effectively lost. Poor 🇺🇦 Ukraine.

It is a terrible day for then as not a single one of us give a shit what you think.

You can't even string a coherent sentence together. Not surprising, really.

OP thinks voters are garbage.

How did you work that out? It appears you aspire to be one of the haters too. It is sad.

The UK better learn from this or Farage will be in office in 4 years. He's already gloating at Mar-A-Lago. The Dems ran a terrible campaign,:IMO.

Right wing fascists winning everywhere from the US and Russia to India and Europe. So depressing.

Willyoujustbequiet · 06/11/2024 07:36

Clearly it was as the American people have spoken.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 06/11/2024 07:39

I am disappointed by the virtue signalling, the view peddled constantly that only a democrat can be good.

This derision of the voting public rather than the desire to see why Trump appealed to so many.

Butchyrestingface · 06/11/2024 07:40

I knew this would happen. America would never elect a woman, ANY woman, over a man. Doesn’t matter if the man is the most disgraceful, criminal cunt to have ever sat in the Oval Office - country would take him over a woman, esp a black one.

RoseAndRose · 06/11/2024 07:40

ClytemnestraWasMisunderstood · 06/11/2024 07:31

Further proof, as if any were needed, that the people of America are just as stupid/cruel/intransigent/misogynistic as those who landed there on the Mayflower

It's probably wrong to single out one post

But this sort of language of hate and division is really unpleasant to read.

Did I want Trump? No.

But I absolutely refuse to buy in to this sort of nastiness about so many of the population.

(Edited to change a word, as I was changing a sentence before I posted, but left a bit with the wrong sense)

Fishcake18 · 06/11/2024 07:41

Just have to hope there are safeguards in place to stop a repeat of the storm on the capital four years ago.. surely there are people in the background already preparing to make sure that doesn't happen??

I am mostly unhappy about the fact that a convicted criminal will now be able to escape justice through a political loophole of giving himself a presidential pardon. I sincerely hope some of his more unsavory initiatives won't see the light of day, much like the infamous wall. But I am fairly certain that pardon will be the very first thing he signs on his first day in office and was the entire motivation for him running.
I would imagine illegal immigrant rapists in female prisons are a statistically rather rare event so electing him on this issue wouldn't be my personal priority.

Carodebalo · 06/11/2024 07:41

The democrats have only themselves to blame for this. It started with allowing Biden to run again, and it all went downhill from there.

SpudleyLass · 06/11/2024 07:41

LookItsMeAgain · 06/11/2024 07:33

Up against The Orange Cheezey Whatsit, she was good. She was definitely qualified to be President. She had worked at all different levels of Government - He has been a failed business man, a convicted felon (and he'll probably commute his sentences or quash them altogether).

I don't know who out of the Democratic Party they could have selected to run against him that wasn't better qualified for the job

Who would you have put up against him??

Michelle Obama, if she only would be willing.

And Harris is awful. Have you listened to her speak?

In no way was she qualified to lead.

AnnoyedAsAllHeck · 06/11/2024 07:41

CurlewKate · 06/11/2024 07:10

@SpudleyLass "Democrats need to field better candidates."

Because Trump was positively stellar.....

This constant "back and forth" and trying to "trump" each other is WHY this election is what it is.

Do better people.

The country will ONLY run decently when we, the people, learn what compromise is and insist our government learns the same.

Not surprising you jumped straight to that kind of insult as you have nothing better to say. Yawn.

MargotwithaT · 06/11/2024 07:42

The Democrat campaign was a disaster. The idea that Biden was a credible candidate was ridiculous. Harris was jettisoned in with no time to make real progress.

Willyoujustbequiet · 06/11/2024 07:42

Fizley · 06/11/2024 07:39

Yes the majority of Americans support rapists.

The land of the free for rapists.

I was about to agree with you- I don't want Farage in power but unless the ruling parties look into why they are not appealing to voters then he will get votes.

But then you get sucked into the lazy trope 'right wing fascist voters' and I realised you are just like them, unable to see the reasons.

Thatsenoughcoffee · 06/11/2024 07:42

Willyoujustbequiet · 06/11/2024 07:30

Seriously?

You just said rape is preferable?

Is that the level of your bar? Jesus wept.

I phrased that badly, but yes the harm caused by transgender ideology, the damage done by children being put on hormones, castrated, given mastectomies, etc, is much worse than Trump’s sexual assaults because it’s on an incomparably larger scale.

I’m sorry for the double-digit number of women assaulted by Trump but there’s just no comparison numerically. Transgenderism is the greater evil.

It was Trump supporters that stormed the capital. They won so no need for violence now. They were preparing for trouble if he lost though.

Shakeoffyourchains · 06/11/2024 07:42

Ytcsghisn · 06/11/2024 07:22

Awwww, how sweet. You’re disappointed. Why don’t you lecture them about woke virtues and climate change. Then tell them how stupid they are for voting for Trump. That’ll teach ‘em.

It’s this kind of ‘oh aren’t they stupid and aren’t we the enlightened ones’ attitude that makes people actively vote for Trump.

Are you supposed to just stand by while someone actively drills holes in your ship because they think it will make it go faster? Will be interesting to see what the right will do when they realise Trump's policies aren't going to address any of their concerns and actual make their lives harder.

But, as we saw with Brexit, people will ignore all evidence and logic if it means they don't have to challenge their bias and then double down on their hateful rhetoric when they find out they were duped.
