To be so disappointed in people - Trump voters especially

1000 replies

notsorighteousthesedays · 06/11/2024 06:43

I feel absolutely stunned that despite all that has been said and done Trump is likely to get the chance to make the world burn a little faster.

I am afraid for a future so full of anger and hate.

This.

I've no idea why people don't realise that insulting and belittling people isn't helfpul.

I haven't belittled anyone except Trump, Modi and Putin. Which is my right. I haven't belittled the people who voted for them because that is altogether more complex.

GenderRealistBloke

I don't quite know where Levine's fascination with children's genitalia comes from, @GenderRealistBloke, but since posters keep bringing history into this - and since Levine's jewish - I'm surprised he doesn't appear to have heard of Josef Mengele

There may or may not be horrors to come with Trump's presidency, but at least we'll be spared people like this in the administration

Now would be a great time for them to gain this self awareness

It would.
By the way, I am not saying this from a partisan perspective at all. I am trying to be as objective as possible.

Ok, you really are going to have to be more clear here. Are you asking about my initial wording or about an issue completely unrelated to my point? If I could fathom what it is you’re actually trying to articulate, I might be able to respond.

It's a pretty simple question, still the same one as the other posts, it's not a complex sentence

Do you think men should compete in women's sports?

I say no, it's not hard to decide, and you?

@Alexandra2001 I hope she doesn't stand again - she's a poor speaker and simply didn't get policy across- don't care if she's white, black or purple-I'm sorry the only way the US in my opinion will vote for a woman is a Republican one with 'crossover views' and not particularly 'right on' that appeal to those in the middle that may vote either way.

To me it's like the Johnson/ Corbyn choice - I wouldn't pick either - I would have voted for Harris- but only because Trump is so far off the scale in terms of being suitable

I think you're right - in the same way that the UK public would accept Theresa May or Margaret Thatcher as Prime Minister, but probably not a left-leaning woman like, say, Angela Rayner or Yvette Cooper. I genuinely think there needs to be a 'nanny' or schoolmistressy element to those women to get the public to accept them as leaders - that kind of primal authority!

oh Dear god,
honestly, no wonder he won with people like you in the world.

A lot of insults but no substance at all in your posts. If you can’t back up what you say with any sort of argument other than resorting to “dear god!” and “read the paper” type explanations. Perhaps describing why you would choose Kamala, which of her achievements you admire would get you a better result.

As James Carville said about a different election, “It’s the economy, stupid.”

Under Biden, food prices skyrocketed. My husband and kids came home from grocery shopping yesterday having spent four hundred dollars on food that would have cost half that or less a few years ago. We have never in our lives spent that much on one trip to the grocery store. Whenever I buy five or six everyday purchases at Walmart or Target - think laundry detergent, paper towels, school shoes, cat food - it comes to over a hundred dollars. A few years ago, it was more like eighty dollars. It all adds up.

Kamala Harris was in on the lie that Biden was perfectly capable of holding office, and anyone who pointed out the truth was spreading “fake news.” All politicians lie, but this one was too egregious. What did Kamala Harris offer to the American electorate? She ticked three different diversity boxes? She inspired memes involving Charli XCX and “brat”?

Until about six months ago, Harris’s lackluster performance was one of the rare things most Americans agreed on. (Remember, this is a woman who ran for the Democratic nomination in 2019-2020 and had to drop out early because no one was voting for her.) Then Biden’s dementia couldn’t be denied any longer and the Democrats shoved in Harris as their candidate, instead of holding an open primary. They had one job: find a sane, moderate Democrat who spoke to issues ordinary Americans cared about. Generally speaking, that’s the economy, immigration, national security, and free speech. They failed. They lost.

Harris is pro-choice? Who cares - it’s a state issue now, you’ve got to vote for governors or state legislators to change abortion law. Democratic flailing about, “but how can you vote for a rapist?!” is laughable to voters who remember the Clinton years and the sexual assault allegations against Bill Clinton that popped up like mushrooms on wet grass.

Finding a candidate who could beat Trump was not difficult. If Democrats couldn’t even do that, they deserve to lose. Better luck next time.

What’s difficult @ChallahPlaiter @EasternStandard is asking a question perfectly related to your comment

Again, why are you asking me this? It has nothing to do with my original comment. You are posting in a very confused and confusing way, and if you can’t or won’t clarify, then, politely, stop wasting my time.

You're trying to reduce the election to a single issue. Bit disingenuous, no?

Are they? Could you explain why you think that?

Onley · 06/11/2024 13:17

Maybe the people you are disappointed in were sick of having their intelligence insulted? Biden was VERY unwell yet the powers that be were still pedalling him for ANOTHER term and expecting the electorate to buy into it.

54% of Hispanic men voted for Trump. It’s easy to dismiss them all as uneducated, bigots. or are they everyday people sick of the same bullshit?

I mean who the hell has been running that country for the past few months?

lifeturnsonadime · 06/11/2024 13:17

ChallahPlaiter · 06/11/2024 12:27

It’s hard to fit a cigarette paper between the views of so called gender critical self-styled “feminists” and those of the hard and far right. It’s an uncomfortable truth that usually gets brushed under the carpet.

So putting men's (sexual rights) above the safety and dignifty of women & children is a left wing belief ?

No wonder Trump did so well.

Your post simply highlights that the left has a serious women problem.

The poster wants to reduce the election to a single issue so that they can 'claim victory' by positioning you as anti-women.

Nowhere near I think Trump due to a whole range of reasons. Definitely not a single issue.

I wanted to ask the pp that as they were indicating through their post they had very little time for so called gender critical self-styled “feminists”

But it seems I've caused a slight blip in service there

DrBlackbird · 06/11/2024 13:19

Has this thread gone on another tangent? Anyhow, I’ve been thinking about Trump’s election and I’ve decided, call it what you want, that I am blaming those who voted him in. A convicted felon. A man who boasted about grabbing pussy just because you can. A man who encouraged people to drink bleach. Who incited a riot against elected representatives where 5 people lost their lives. Whose denies climate science. Who withdrew funding for all multilateral institutions. It was all there for people to see. Yet they voted for such a man

The election was not a single issue.

Harris lost and Trump won due to a whole range of reasons

How is this reducing the election to one point
The question relates to a poster calling a section of society far right and asking for clarification.
@EasternStandard didn't start this ‘one point’…… just querying another’s.

Thisis a discussion forum…isn’t it?

I think that might work better in the UK. In the US it would be so easy to paint them as a Karen/bossy. So much seems to hinge on clips played on podcasts, or TikTok shorts its easy to ruin the way people see a politician in a way it wasn't before.

Except the rest of the world suffers too.

Again, assumptions. Are people really that incapable of reading, comprehending and asking probing questions or do they just mindlessly jump to their own prejudices?

AliasGrace47 · 06/11/2024 13:22

Spudley, well I would say that for gay people if they voted & then complained their marriage was made illegal. But I def get why minorities shunned Harris. W gender ideology & the economy, she shot herself in the foot.

Alexandra2001 · 06/11/2024 13:22

rainingsnoring · 06/11/2024 13:08

I agree. The democrats lied and lied about Biden's abilities. The left do indeed have a very bad habit of talking down to those on the right who disagree with them. It only persuades people to move further right, rather than left. If wonder if/ when they will wake up to this and change their approach.

Hang on, Trump isn't exactly sane either, i do not recall the Republicans being so open about Trumps abilities!

Trump seems to be a vehicle for others to get into positions of power.

No one should talk down to anyone.

but TBH the whole tone of your post is somewhat sneering of anyone left of centre.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/11/2024 13:23

With regards to abortion... It blows my mind that you lot are so obsessed with killing babies. You need help

Your views on abortion may not be mine, @Mekumeku, but it's worth remembering that this is the site where a discussion about "as early as possible, as late as necessary" turned into advocacy for actual infanticide "providing it's done very soon after birth"

To their great credit HQ deleted it pretty damned fast, but it's the sort of thing that's almost impossible to forget once seen

An indication, too, of where extreme liberalism can lead us ...
