I dunno I genuinely think Trump is either unhinged enough or stupid enough to set up two association attempts in order to try win the election ? Anyone else ?

OP posts:

He is truly unhinged, but I find it hard to believe that he would stoop so low. Someone died in the first assassination attempt.

confusedabouthormones · 16/09/2024 09:36

I think an "assassin attempt" is a win win for him. One. His
Popularity was flagging slowly and he wanted to get back in news again TICK

Two. The SS reassert their authority in catching snipers. TICK

Three. If he decides in a few weeks he defo isn't gonna win and wants to drop out two attempts on his life give him a good excuse

I think it was defo a set up. I'd be watching the gunman's family and make sure they don't suddenly win the lottery and
I'd be interested to see how his trial goes.

Hoppinggreen · 16/09/2024 09:36

I said this to DH this morning.
He got his arse kicked by Harris in the debate and someone on his team thought how his popularity went up after the last assassination attempt and LIGHTBULB!!!!
It sounds implausible but I think that everything surrounding the tangerine toddler seems like something you couldn't actually make up.

Samcro · 16/09/2024 09:37

i said this earlier.

Motomum23 · 16/09/2024 09:37

I think you'd be pretty stupid to allow someone to shoot you in the ear to win and election when you are already a multi millionaire. I also think the media hates trump and considering the media is run by those in power its probably likely he would shake things up a he'll of a lot for those who are sitting comfortably on other people's misery. Whether he's a good person or president at that point is irrelevant.

SnapdragonToadflax · 16/09/2024 09:38

I definitely think it's possible. And I hate that I think that, I'm not a conspiracy theorist.

YachtMistress · 16/09/2024 09:38

Poor Donald, behind in the voting polls ...... then someone tales a potshot.......

I don't, @Cecilly.

And I find it hard to believe that, in a nation of gun owners, two have managed to miss him.

There's been another. Supposedly. And yes first thing I said was I bet it's a set up to garner some sympathy votes!

TallulahBetty · 16/09/2024 09:39

Yep, said this after the first 'attempt'.

CurlewKate · 16/09/2024 09:39

@Motomum23 ". I also think the media hates trump and considering the media is run by those in power its probably likely he would shake things up a he'll of a lot for those who are sitting comfortably on other people's misery."

Why would he do that when he didn't last time?

The media doesn't hate Trump. Half the media hates Trump. The other half is as deranged as he is. I don't think the first assassination attempt was a set up, but I'm convinced the second was.

NameChangefor2day · 16/09/2024 09:42

@Hoppinggreen - tangerine toddler 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Uricon2 · 16/09/2024 09:43

Could be wrong of course but admit it was my first thought, for all the reasons others have suggested.

First attempt perhaps not, even someone as arrogant as Trump wouldn't have taken that risk. Probably.

MissyB1 · 16/09/2024 09:46

It was the first thing our teen ds said when we watched the news last night. I told him that was a bit silly, now I'm not so sure....

Lampzade · 16/09/2024 09:46

Many people think that this attempt was a set up Op, so you are not the only one.
I am not yet convinced of this

Daisymay2 · 16/09/2024 09:47

Not sure about the first attempt, although it seemed odd, suspect very strongly the second one is a set up , so soon after getting trounced by Harris in the debate.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 16/09/2024 09:47

It could be that the second was a set up but not the first?

He definitely exaggerated his ear injury last time but not sure if that one was a set up as hopefully a set up would have been engineered so no one died.

Thats said, I have no idea. He doesn’t seemed to care at all about human life.

colouringindoors · 16/09/2024 09:48

The same thought had crossed my mind OP. I've yet to see a photo of him with a chunk missing from his ear...

Sparklywhiteteeth · 16/09/2024 09:48

Of course not. A man died. Another man is about to be jailed. You’d need to be a proper proper deluded person to think trump is having the fbi kill people to win the election

OrwellianTimes · 16/09/2024 09:49

The first one seemed real. His reactions didn’t seem acted out. No one would agree to actually be shot at, and an explosion of fake blood seems very unlikely to have gone unnoticed.

However yesterday could very easily have been set up. No actual bullets fired, suspect seen and filmed (who would think to film?) suspect caught rapidly, he’s pro Ukraine/palestine/etc and far too easy for Trump to make a nice big scene out of.

Sparklywhiteteeth · 16/09/2024 09:50

There is some proper conspiracy theorists on here.

MrTwatchester · 16/09/2024 09:51

I don't think they were a set up (at least not the first one), but Trump's only got himself to blame if people don't believe they're real, since he's been the world's most vocal conspiracy theorist since he jumped on board the Birther bandwagon.

CaveMum · 16/09/2024 09:54

This second attempt sounds like a poorly thought out plan by a man with a questionable mental health background.

The arrested man seems to be a bit of a Walter Mitty type, as someone said on another thread he appears to have some kind of “hero complex”.

Secondly, his choice of weapon, an AK-47 according to reports, is not exactly a would-be assassin’s go to. Yes it will undoubtedly kill but accuracy is a real issue in untrained hands.

I think more likely that this second attempt was stopped before it even began. Let’s not delude ourselves into thinking the recent events are one-offs. I suspect the FBI and Secret Service foil attempts on a daily basis (on both sides, not just involving Trump) we just don’t hear about them.

The Trump team will milk it for all it’s worth, no doubt.

TinkerTiger · 16/09/2024 09:59

I think it's important to question things, but I worry when every major thing that happens is viewed as 'fake news'. It's setting us up for a society where we won't trust anything and ironically, will be easier to manipulate.
