I dunno I genuinely think Trump is either unhinged enough or stupid enough to set up two association attempts in order to try win the election ? Anyone else ?

A curious thing is that even tho' this is Trumps nearest and favourite golf course where he spends a lot of time - yesterday afternoons visit was unplanned and a spur of the moment decision to play

So the arrestee would either have to spend hours/days there on the off-chance that Trump would turn up - unless someone told him Trump was playing yesterday afternoon??

Blarn · 16/09/2024 11:38

No, I really don't. I think the man and his politics and both absurd and dangerous but the logistics alone in setting up fake assassination attempts would be too risky. He does have CIA protection, someone could talk, there would surely be money involved, some kind of trail.

There are always copycat attempts after things like this. He needs more protection.

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 16/09/2024 11:42

Someone died in the first one.

The second one (no one hurt, and not on camera?) - I wouldn't put it past him I suppose. And I also think if these two attempts had been made on Harris, he'd be the first one tweeting conspiraciesabout them.

Laiste · 16/09/2024 11:42

First no, second yes.

''I was never scared because i knew god was on my side'' ...

about the first one.
I've never rolled my eyeballs so hard !! But folks lapped it up Confused

Second one - a little fake one just to hammer it home that god's on his side i recon 🙄🙄🙄

Laiste · 16/09/2024 11:44

Surely there's some nutters with better aim in America .... ?

kiddietaxi · 16/09/2024 11:46

I wouldn’t be surprised. False flag incidents are straight out of the rise-of-a-dictator playbook. Surely anyone with half a brain can see that an attempt on his life would be a poor tactical decision as it only makes him a martyr!

jen337 · 16/09/2024 11:50

Yeh I’ve been thinking the same thing. Especially after he got his arse handed to him in the debate,I knew he’d manufacture some major media story to distract from it.

He's only got himself to blame that people doubt the narrative. He's forever giving credence to stupid conspiracy theories himself, and lets face it, this is far less of a stretch that immigrants stealing and eating people's pets.

He appears to have been in absolutely no danger yesterday since the gunman almost guaranteed that any quarter competent security detail sweeping the area well ahead of Trump walking there would see him. The gunman's lucky he didn't get his head blown off.

SonjaBarkerFinch · 16/09/2024 12:03

He needed something to take the conversation away from his “I hate Taylor Swift” post.

ParisGellerFTW · 16/09/2024 12:04

Occams razor would suggest that the truly insane levels of hyperbole the media have been putting out about Trump bringing about the end of civilisation has resulted in mentally unstable people with a hero complex taking matters into their own hands.

No I don't think he hired a young man just out of his teens to take a shot at him from long range while he was moving. Don't be daft. A man died.

People are deranged about Trump. He's been president before, the world didn't end.

LadyRoughDiamond · 16/09/2024 12:05

Must admit, it did cross my mind.

Smartiepants79 · 16/09/2024 12:07

I have suspicions about this second attempt. It’s all a bit odd. I think the first one was genuine but this second one is a very convenient thing to get him back in the news, attention on him and everyone going on about how brave he is.

MushMonster · 16/09/2024 12:08

I do not think so. He got shot and someone died, plus two seriously hurt on the first one. This guy was rather close to him too.
It is rather worrying. I think it is real and a huge red flag on the estate of affairs in the security provided, which does not point towards great things in the background. Plus how polarise supported and haters are with him.
This guy managed to jump the fence, both in and out... well.... another trial in the horizon.

notanotherusername2024 · 16/09/2024 12:08

A husband and father was slaughtered. Others were wounded. This is a horrifically inappropriate thread and an utterly deranged viewpoint.

TheNormalRules · 16/09/2024 12:09

Unfortunately, you are probably not the only one, because there are always a few fruit bats with their mad conspiracy theories.

Planesmistakenforstars · 16/09/2024 12:12

The first one where someone died and the bullet clipped his ear? No, absolutely not.

The "apparent " one yesterday? Quite probably.

Americano75 · 16/09/2024 12:17

I can well believe the second one was a set up. I mean, it probably isn't but when it comes to this guy anything is possible.

MorrisZapp · 16/09/2024 12:17

I doubt they were a set up. Americans can legally own guns and there are vast numbers of extremists, activists, untreated mentally ill people and just plain weirdos walking the streets.

Anyone in the public eye is a target. Trump will be a target for the rest of his life. It's not an existence I'd want.

ThreeFeetTall · 16/09/2024 12:19

Nah, if it was a set up he would have got more dramatic photos of him being bundled into a car, press tipped off etc. This was the secret service going ahead and catching the guy before anything happened.

biscuitandcake · 16/09/2024 12:22

Crazy people with guns? In America??? Seems hard to believe...

Seriously - a lot of the rhetoric coming from Trump/Vance has been not just lies (that's a normal part of politics) but absolutely reality defying statements and long speeches that contradict themselves several times in a few minutes. It's a deliberate and disruptive tactic. It helps to undermine the very concept of truth and shared confidence in the democratic system. For all people like to talk about Russian influence, this contempt for the possibility of shared reality/truth is 100% doing Putins work for him. The Dems are better overal but don't help matters when they double down on the "there is no difference between trans women and women".

Not believing anything is actually happening the way it appears is a reaction to that, but it's really unhelpful. Deciding, on the basis of no evidence, that the assassination attempt "must" be not an assassination attempt is conspiracy theory, not rational thought.

cheezncrackers · 16/09/2024 12:27

I don't think the first one was, but it wouldn't surprise me if this one was because he/his team saw the huge bump he got from the first one. This one was on HIS golf course, which is what makes it extra suspicious to me.

twomanyfrogsinabox · 16/09/2024 12:32

The second one was hardly an assassination attempt. Man with rifle outside golf club fence, in America where half the population have guns, which Trump approves of. The man may have been thinking about taking a pot shot, who knows, but got nowhere near trying to.

FloofPaws · 16/09/2024 12:34

First thing I thought !
