She bought the same coat as me.

I treated myself to a new coat and I finally wore it today as it actually felt like the right weather.

Met a friend for dinner and she said how nice it was where did I get it. She then got out her phone and bought it.

I feel a bit annoyed. It’s a coat so an item of clothing that you wear a lot, I wouldn’t be bothered if it was say a top or jeans - but I won’t want to turn up when I meet her both wearing the same thing. Aibu?

As long as you coordinate when you go out, you’ll be fine!

UltramarineViolet · 12/09/2024 21:07

That would annoy me too OP but there's not lot you can do about it after the event

redtrain123 · 12/09/2024 21:08

I think that’s a bit weird also.

its a bit rude to order it there and then in front of you.

Did she order the exact same colour? Not so bad if it were different colour, but to order the same us a bit copycat.

(and can I have the link please!)

If all you are worried about in life is your friend wearing the same coat as you you need to grow up! Primary school drama.

Oh ffs don't be silly, of course she doesn't want to turn up to meet her friend with them both wearing the same coat.

Justsomethoughts · 12/09/2024 21:13

I bought a dress once that I’d seen a friend wearing.
she looked better in it and I couldn’t shake the feeling that she pulled it off better than I did, which ruined it for me. I haven’t done it since.
You obviously wear it well, try and be flattered!

You can be coat buddies 😆

AGoingConcern · 12/09/2024 21:14

Honestly this is the type of thing that would have given me great angst in my teen years and I wouldn't bat an eye at as an adult unless perhaps it was an extremely distinctive fashion-statement coat. I also doubt I would notice two women in a group were wearing the same winter coat (again, unless it was very distinctive).

Take it as flattery and enjoy your own nice warm coat.

allmyliesaretrue · 12/09/2024 21:14

I had a friend in uni who used to copy our clothes. It was fucking annoying. Who wants to go out looking like 4 year old twins?

Just don't wear that coat when you meet this particular friend is all you can do.

Yes. Thankfully I skip to my 7 figure job holding hands with bunnies and kittens every day. I’ve never had a problem or issue in my life.

Whats also very primary school is the answer of “is that all you have to worry about!?”. We’re allowed to post about any issues we have, from the most privileged first world problem to the darkest unimaginable problem. You aren’t the gatekeeper of AIBU on Mumsnet.

Can you explain why? I genuinely don't understand why anyone would be annoyed about this.

It sounds like a nice coat, where did you get it? 👀

Exactly. We we will all get it. Just tell us ! 🤣🤣

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 12/09/2024 21:16

Unless it's a stand outy coat I wouldn't think much of it.

Most normal coats are a black/dark green/greyish colour so wouldn't think much of it if I saw two people wearing the same one.

You should be flattered! She thinks you’ve got good taste.

Why, look a bit daft them both walking along the road in the same coat.

Kevinisnotacatname · 12/09/2024 21:21

Yeah I'd be a bit miffed too OP - you're both going to be wearing the same bloody coat when you meet up!

OpalGoose · 12/09/2024 21:22

It's mildly annoying, though I would get worried if a friend started buying the same clothes as me regularly, that would feel very creepy..

thursdaymurderclub · 12/09/2024 21:22

it depends if its just the coat! or does she have form for copying whatever you have?

i had a friend who did exactly that, if i bought something, she went straight out and bought the same thing, just the newer upgraded version. it got to the point that i purposely bought some rubbish to see how far i could push her..

we are no longer friends

heartbroken22 · 12/09/2024 21:23

If find that annoying too. Wear it all the time so she doesn't wear it. She'll notice so hopefully if she's sane won't wear it all the time. Or make a joke about it saying can't be seen wearing it together that would be weird

imgonnadowild · 12/09/2024 21:23
