She bought the same coat as me.

I treated myself to a new coat and I finally wore it today as it actually felt like the right weather.

Met a friend for dinner and she said how nice it was where did I get it. She then got out her phone and bought it.

I feel a bit annoyed. It’s a coat so an item of clothing that you wear a lot, I wouldn’t be bothered if it was say a top or jeans - but I won’t want to turn up when I meet her both wearing the same thing. Aibu?

Imagine being this miserable of a person.

And who shames anyone for “buying off the rack”

You’ve probably never experienced a friend copying you because you don’t have any.

The Duchess of Cambridge buys off the rack and often when representing the royal family. So who does that poster think they are and where are they going that they need bespoke?

I'm not shaming anyone. I'm just saying, rightly so, that if you're buying mass produced clothing, someone will probably own and wear the same thing.
I couldn't give a crap if someone was wearing the same thing as me. it's happened before. a friend of mine and I have several things that are the same, and we've worn them at the same time before, and neither of us care.

kind of a stretch to assume I have no friends because I'm not uptight about someone I know buying or wearing the same thing as I did.

CrowleyKitten · 18/09/2024 20:30

and I DO buy off the rack. but I don't then assume that means I'm the only one in my social circle allowed to wear that item. if something is mass produced, other people will own it and wear it, and there's no point taking it as some kind of personal offence.

if someone admires something I'm wearing, and I know it's still available, I'll tell them where I got it, in case they want one too. because I'm not weird like that.

You know you can quite easily form a different view and opinion without having to just be horrible you know.

Anyway I really don’t care about a thread I posted a week ago and no idea why people keep resurrecting it and I keep getting notifications for it.

There’s nothing new to add to this .

Op I don't think you're unreasonable at all but you've posted it on the internet and there it stays for people to comment. Hide it if it's doing your head in. Fair few dickish comments on it. The mass produced thing yea exactly thousands of mass produced coats why buy the same one as your friend?

Mate, she was being tongue in cheek when she wrote that.

You actually believe I earn an 8 figure salary? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. I also said in the same sentence that I skip to work holding hands with bunnies and kittens - did you believe that to?

it was a response to someone saying I had no other problems in the world. It’s called sarcasm and thankfully the majority understood it to be just that. So maybe apply the “it’s not rocket science” to yourself.

Not only don’t you understand sarcasm but you also don’t understand what the word obsessed means. I think posting once about any incident straight after it happened wouldn’t exactly fall into the “obsessed” and also “miserable” category. Obsessed would be me posting multiple threads, resurrecting the thread myself constantly.

But it’s very clear to see that you were being a dick and it’s because you thought I was a very very high earner and were extremely jealous. Don’t believe everything you read on the internet - I actually earn 9 figures.

Next time you purchase a new coat (or any new clothing), tell your mate you found it in a charity shop/ off eBay/ vinted and have no idea where it came from, then change the subject.
That said if you got your coat from a high street shop, chances are lots of people will be wearing it. If you want something unique then either go for vintage, bespoke or from a few seasons ago.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 19/09/2024 11:49

Make sure your write your name in yours.

Imisssleep2 · 19/09/2024 15:19

Be flattered she likes it so much to buy herself.

Ok, maybe turning up somewhere in the same outfit is a bit awkward, but this is a coat, so I less you see this friend often at outside events in the cold your unlikely to be seen together wearing the same coat. Coats are taken off for indoor things so not an issue then.

I'm not being horrible. I'm just saying it's an odd thing to be bothered by, when it's something widely commercially available at the time.

Kazzybingbong · 20/09/2024 12:20

Grow. Up.

CrowleyKitten · 20/09/2024 15:44

so, apparently I'm the one being horrible, but people have called me miserable, told me to grow up, and said I don't have any friends, just for saying it's a non issue.

I think everyone can see who is being unkind here, and it's not me.

Why are you so obsessed with this thread? No one has commented back to your last post and so you’ve posted again??

Who the hell cares?

Also, OP. You have a really snarky and condescending attitude and it oozes in every comment you make.
Maybe instead of sarcastically suggesting others need to look at themselves whenever you don't like their comments, you could take a little look closer to home?

Edited to add: You can reply to my comment with whatever 'witty' condescending putdown you like. I just delete notifications and never read responses, so knock yourself out.

Give it out but can’t take it back clearly 😂

You can say what you want about me, I don’t care because you know not one thing about me. Just a few words on a screen.

A Friday night and you’re on the internet writing nasty comments. Are you alright? Because I might not know you either (not that I want to) but your actions are that are a pathetic and bitter.

I wouldn’t take any notice, honestly no friendship I’ve ever had anyone would outright copy someone without asking or acknowledging it, I know the feeling you felt and it just feels off. People making out you’re annoyed if anyone has the same item as you are missing the point
