How Often are you at Home?

Aquarius1234 · 07/09/2024 00:13

I feel I prefer to be out the house more often than in it. Even though I'm indoors lots of evenings by 6pm.
It surprises me that my neighbours seem to rarely leave the house apart from food shopping?

Even if I worked from home I would think it's weird to go days without leaving the house?
I also find it annoying that my neighbours seem to be in a huge amount!!
I don't have much of a social life at all but couldn't bear to go months without doing stuff at the weekend or odd evening.
I do stuff alone to get out the house. It's good to get some fresh air . .

Since you’re out so much you have no way of knowing what your neighbours are doing during that time.

Fethard · 07/09/2024 00:23

Why are you annoyed your neighbours stay in a lot? How does it affect you?

If I’m writing, I only leave the house twice a day to walk by the river. If it’s a teaching day, I could be on campus between 8 and 6. Weekends I go away to stay with friends a lot, and I usually see friends or family at least a couple of times. Tomorrow I’m going to the farmers’ market for vegetables, cheer DS on at a match, DH is leaving for NY for a week for work, going out for dinner with my visiting brother and SIL, then on Sunday, while DS is out for the day with friends, I’m going hillwalking and picking up a friend who will have just finished an ultramarathon close by.

Why the neighbour obsession?

Aquarius1234 · 07/09/2024 00:25

Ha as soon as I pop back or whatever I can hear.
During half the year when lights are on I see from the resident car park lights always on. When I come back from work or come back at 8pm/ 10pm Sunday 4pm etc etc. And hear voices.
I just find it annoying that I never get more privacy as it were.
And my god why wouldn't you wanna go out for half the day or evenings at weekends!! Or whenever.

I go out quite a bit, I stay in quite a bit. It just depends on my mood/the weather/if any friends or family are busy etc.

The way you talk about your annoyance at your neighbours for not going out much, is really odd though.

thursdaymurderclub · 07/09/2024 00:30

what has your neighbours living arrangements got to do with you? some people just aren't as busy as others, some people enjoy their own company and some people just like being at home.

i'm not a going out person, i prefer to be home and in my PJ's by 8.30.. but i have a stressful job and my working days are long. on my days off, i do the usual stuff, shopping, walking, going to the gym, housework..

might you be better buying a detached house in the middle of nowhere that way the neighbours being home won't annoy you so much

Aquarius1234 · 07/09/2024 00:32

And yes I don't know when they go out for short periods as I'm out.
But it's annoying when your in a mid terrace and can hear both sides. One side is louder. So yes please go out more... or a very long holiday!!

I hate leaving the house. If I could stay home forever, I would!

I enjoy my own company and I like my home, and being surrounded by all my stuff. I used to feel immense guilt if I stayed home all day and didn't go outside to "make the most of the day"

The pandemic and lockdown made me realise it's absolutely fine to stay home if that's what makes you happy. I no longer feel the pressure to go out when I don't want to and I'm incredibly happy with it. Everyone is different.

Earplugs?

I mean if their day to day living noises bother you that much?

or... you could just not be in to hear it!

Really weird to get annoyed at your neighbours staying in more than you 🤯

thursdaymurderclub · 07/09/2024 00:34

is it not ironic that you are complaining about neighbours being 'in' and 'at home' when you are yourself 'at home'?

PomPomtheGreat · 07/09/2024 00:36

I have ADHD and have to be out of the house as much as possible. Even a half day without getting out into the fresh air sends me stir crazy.

I work from home, so whenever the weather is good enough, I take my laptop outside to work for a couple of hours. The walls feel like they're closing in whenever I'm inside for more than a couple of hours.

Aquarius1234 · 07/09/2024 00:37

Yes I want to be at home sometimes and them not be there!!

Thank goodness I try to go out even when I'm not bothered.
I do think it's weird to be home 24/ 7 actually.

Edited

But maybe what you’re hearing is the neighbours’ social life? Maybe they like hosting, so have friends over a lot?

Aquarius1234 · 07/09/2024 00:39

But in general I think 50,/ 50 is fine or 60/ 40.

Ideally I'd be out 2/ 3rds of the time if I had more of a life and friends.
My neighbours seem so strange in comparison. I'd get itchy feet .

Your neighbours can do what they like!

Privacy from your neighbours? They are not in your house..

Aquarius1234 · 07/09/2024 00:42

Imagine living next to people that never leave the house unless for supplies!
I want privacy in my garden .. didn't hardly use it at all this summer.

The irony of you saying this, when you are the one who is monitoring their every move Grin

This is a very weird thread.

Mine is a mix, depending on the days

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 07/09/2024 00:44

My DD is autistic and crippled with anxiety, so she very rarely leaves the house. I don't like to leave her home alone for hours on end so have got used to staying at home too. The back doors are always open so plenty of fresh air and I'm quite happy pottering around the house. HTH.

Suggest you move to a detached house or suck it up

Imagine living next to someone who's noting all your comings and goings (or lack of them) and posting about them on the internet.

I know who I'd rather live next door to.
