How Often are you at Home?

Aquarius1234 · 07/09/2024 00:13

I feel I prefer to be out the house more often than in it. Even though I'm indoors lots of evenings by 6pm.
It surprises me that my neighbours seem to rarely leave the house apart from food shopping?

Even if I worked from home I would think it's weird to go days without leaving the house?
I also find it annoying that my neighbours seem to be in a huge amount!!
I don't have much of a social life at all but couldn't bear to go months without doing stuff at the weekend or odd evening.
I do stuff alone to get out the house. It's good to get some fresh air . .

Imagine living next to someone who's noting all your comings and goings (or lack of them) and posting about them on the internet.

I know who I'd rather live next door to.

<< Shudders >>

Ha I feel like they are noting my coming and goings as I go back and forth a lot.

Why are you annoyed your neighbours stay in a lot? How does it affect you?

If I’m writing, I only leave the house twice a day to walk by the river. If it’s a teaching day, I could be on campus between 8 and 6. Weekends I go away to stay with friends a lot, and I usually see friends or family at least a couple of times. Tomorrow I’m going to the farmers’ market for vegetables, cheer DS on at a match, DH is leaving for NY for a week for work, going out for dinner with my visiting brother and SIL, then on Sunday, while DS is out for the day with friends, I’m going hillwalking and picking up a friend who will have just finished an ultramarathon close by.

Sounds like you have a busy life.
I'd enjoy living next to you 🙂

I go out quite a bit, I stay in quite a bit. It just depends on my mood/the weather/if any friends or family are busy etc.

The way you talk about your annoyance at your neighbours for not going out much, is really odd though.

Similar to me. Good balance.
I'm sure you'd find my neighbours annoying.

Why would anyone here tell you how often their house is empty?

spikeandbuffy24 · 07/09/2024 00:56

I don't generally during the week
Work from home 8-5.30. Home exercise then shower, cook, clean etc and then it's an hour before bed
I do a group sport once a week but apart from that I'm home all week

excatly, all the little details across the internet add up if someones building a profile of you etc

I have ADHD and have to be out of the house as much as possible. Even a half day without getting out into the fresh air sends me stir crazy.

I work from home, so whenever the weather is good enough, I take my laptop outside to work for a couple of hours. The walls feel like they're closing in whenever I'm inside for more than a couple of hours.

Absolutely I'd start feeling depressed if I stayed in too long. Yet just going out for 2 hours helps that.

But this is more about how often are you at home as opposed to being out.

Of course I wouldn't find you neighbours annoying.

Then again, I don't have a penchant for winding up Mumsnet on a Friday night.

I'm retired and live alone. I spend most of my time at home, I love it, I enjoy my own company. I have a large garden which requires a lot of tending, so can easily spend the whole day in it.
I have several hobbies which I only do at home so I stay at home doing them. I see my adult children generally at the weekend for an afternoon or evening, I go to theirs or they come to mine so I could be at home then too. I see friends maybe every couple of weeks.
Of course I go to visit people and places but that's not every week, so mainly I'm home. Both my next door neighbours who are in their seventies spend most of their time at home too, but we all love gardening so spend a lot of time at home doing that.

Dweetfidilove · 07/09/2024 01:01

So you're constantly aware of your neighbours' comings and goings, but you want them to go out so you can have privacy 🤔🤭.

I wonder how much headspace they afford you?

Probably loads I bet they're sat inside crying every day about to write a post about why their neighbours want to ever leave the house because they think they should be exactly like they are

Aquarius1234 · 07/09/2024 01:06

I don't know their comings and goings.
I just know that I've never not heard them during the evenings when I'm there or weekends when I'm there.
I've never seen the lights off or for example a car not parked up.

After a few years.. it's easy to know who's car is who's.. not being that nosy.

Weird thread is weird.

You would love us then OP. Dh and I went to get our eyes tested in July and I realised it was the first time we had been out of the house together since we got the kitten at Christmas. Prior to that it was probably our flu vaccination last October! There is almost always someone at home here. I have an odd lunch out with a friend, today I collected a prescription but I have my shopping delivered and am happiest at home.

As little as possible!

Aquarius1234 · 07/09/2024 01:12

For the people thar stay in most the time and or work from home.
Do you pay any attention to neighbours going in and out of their houses? Driving in and out etc.
Do you ever notice?

People like you OP are why I avoid some of my neighbours. One said to me the other day that we are like moles, she never sees us and we're so quiet (tinkly laugh afterwards). She has no idea of what we are going through, and it's obviously nothing to do with her. We go out about our everyday lives but don't want to socialise very much. Luckily most of my other neighbours aren't complete nosy cunts....

SnowFrogJelly · 07/09/2024 01:17

No because we have better things to do

Wow that's a long time.
I'd feel strange not getting in my car in months or going to shops or any type of small social thing with family or out and about alone.
If I had a partner I have no idea how you wouldn't step out the house together in months. Just boring errands o short walks if you don't do other entertainment.

I know for sure one isn't. Nurses round a lot..

So doesnt this tell you something??????

If Nurses are there alot the person is more than likely house bound

So how about you have some empathy for them and count yourself god damn lucky you can get out and dont have health problems that keep you inside your house !

Not really as I work at the back of the house so I overlook a different road
It took me 4 days to notice my neighbours had gone on holiday and that was only because their cat was pestering me for cuddles!

I missed a police raid where (in my neighbours words) "I didn't know we had that many police in the town, armed ones, riot, dogs.." as it was at the front of the house

Lifesd · 07/09/2024 01:22

You clearly are not suited to mid terrace living! Move. I have no idea what my neighbours do and couldn’t care less.

Thursa · 07/09/2024 01:23

I haven’t left the house (other than taking the dogs into the garden) since the 15th of July. We have three dogs who would wreck the place if left alone, and a fourth that’s disabled and can’t be left, add in a cat who hates the dogs and the dogs hate the cat…
