Halloween duvet sets. WTF?

notedbiscuits · 30/08/2024 16:12

Saw in Home Bargains today. Took no notice of sizes or prices.

This is worse than Xmas bedding and cushions.

I think having themed bedding is pointless and besides you want a Xmas free room to chill out

My Halloween ghost duvet cover has been on my chair duvet all year......

GalileoHumpkins · 30/08/2024 16:54

How is a duvet cover plastic crap?

Frostythecat · 30/08/2024 16:55

I have seasonal bedding. My seasonal bedding is years old! We still use the winter/Christmas until April because is brushed cotton.
I also have seasonal pjs which I wear all year long.
As only me and DH use our bedroom I can do whatever I like. Youngest DD likes goth so her Halloween stuff is out all year.
If people don’t like it, don’t buy it.
If someone can let me know where I can buy eco/uk/eu made bedding let me know.

Depends if it's made from polyester or not.

MartinCrieffsLemon · 30/08/2024 16:56

Didn't realise you were forced to buy it

Love my spooky bedding

An advert came up for me today of a Halloween advent calendar! Wtf

@Beginningless

Yeah. I was looking for Christmas Advent Calendars & loads of halloween
ones came up, I did find that idea a bit odd.

OriginalUsername2 · 30/08/2024 16:57

If i found a nice one for my teen I might get it and use it for all of October. She loves the time of year but is far too old for tick or treat.

KerryBlues · 30/08/2024 16:58

Sux2buthen · 30/08/2024 16:33

You can use them any time

But who would want to?

RunSlowTalkFast · 30/08/2024 16:58

Sorry, this is my fault, I'm absolutely the target market for this! But I have autumnal bits and bobs out from beginning of September to end of November, use it year after year and sell on Vinted if I get bored of it.

Autumn jumpers, PJs, puzzles, colouring books, tickets to a pumpkin festival, a cabin in the woods in October, bedding, candles with whimsical names involving rain and pumpkins and leaves and libraries. I'm a sucker for it.

Not so bothered about christmas.

We have different duvet covers for each of the 'festivals' throughout the year.
We begin on January 1st with the Feast of the Circumcision of Christ.

I have to admit it's not my favorite set as the pillow cases seem to be too short and consequently the pillow pokes out the end.

I need to see this duvet 🙏

Many people decorate their homes according to the seasons (which is actually not dissimilar to what our pagan ancestors used to do).

Yes, but our pagan ancestors didn't use excessive amounts of plastic that had been shipped halfway around the globe and made by slaves. This is not the same as a flower wreath or a holly branch.

Indeed.

I was a child in the 50s-60s. At school, we did autumn paintings and took in conkers, acorns, seed heads and coloured leaves for the nature table. At home, I used to make an "autumn box" with stuff collected from the hedgerows.

Now it's fake leaves, garlands and candles shipped in from China...

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 30/08/2024 17:01

I bought one yesterday with black cats all over it, not because of Halloween but because our family cat was a black cat and died a little while ago and I thought DS would like it

Sux2buthen · 30/08/2024 17:01

@KerryBlues my kids and that's for sure 😄

I think it was this one but can’t remember where I saw the ad, YouTube maybe as it was a video. A quick google suggests there are loads…nuts!

KreedKafer · 30/08/2024 17:03

I wouldn't buy any kind of themed bedlinen, cushions, crockery, pyjamas or anything like that, but I have no problem with anyone else buying it. I mean, they've only got to buy it once, haven't they? It's not like they're buying a new themed set every Halloween / Christmas / whatever. They just get the same one out of the cupboard when it's seasonal.

I can never really get worked up about how other people choose to dress, or style their home, or what they spend their money on.

It’s all just a marketing ploy to sell, sell, sell.

Personally I dislike Halloween with a passion so I won’t be buying.

flymetoalphacentauri · 30/08/2024 16:52

Consumerism gone mad 🙄
They can never produce enough plastic crap can they?

None of my Halloween stuff is plastic.

K0OLA1D · 30/08/2024 17:05

KerryBlues · 30/08/2024 16:58

Well there have been a number of people on this thread alone that have said they do. Me included. Mad ay, how people differ

Bumcake · 30/08/2024 17:07

Rory17384949 · 30/08/2024 16:30

It's so wasteful! It's even worse than Christmas bedding because at least you can use Christmas ones for 6 weeks or so

Does someone come around and make you landfill the Halloween stuff on 1st November then?

tribalmango · 30/08/2024 17:09

I guess it will delay the display of the Xmas bedding until November. That's not a bad thing. Maybe even until mid Nov if they bring out a Guy Fawkes bedding set.

notedbiscuits · 30/08/2024 17:09

KerryBlues · 30/08/2024 16:18

The stuff I saw was very much pumpkin based Grin

Yes. Pumpkins, Frankenstein and witches (purple). So not for Goths. But had Nightmare Before Christmas stuff

Happy Halloween was on the bedding. I hate that phrase

If no one buys it then it won't become a thing.

I bet a giant bag of jelly skulls it will become a thing.
